My wife has a blog for our dog (sorry, it's in Japanese).  We just found out he has lymphoma and have to decide whether to treat or not. It'd give me a big kick to know he gave some folks a smile while he was here, so if you have the time, and like the cuteness... have a look.

Tedders self-identifies as a 'calico fox'.
We humour him just to keep the noise level down.

No chemo, 1-2omths. Even with chemo, he'll only get 6-12 months more. It's a tough call (considering the cost, quality of life, and other factors).

My last dog died from lymphoma. It's friggin rough. My sympathies are with you. My suggestion would be to go for the first lower level dose run then get the backup "super shot" that gives them an amazing two weeks. Then buy as much tissue as you can. I got to spend another 8 months with my little buddy for not much money, ~1.5k. The 5-8k plan is just too much for not very much extra return.

It's tough but you know that your pooch enjoyed its time with you and would want you to be happy. So enjoy the last days at the beach, park, and cuddling.

Years ago, we went to a dog show and saw our first Shiba Inu dogs. As at all those kind of things, there were breeders selling puppies of them. We approached one such guy with about 4 of them and asked about the breed. You don't want one, he said. They are very difficult pets.

Years later, I realized he was inoculating himself from lawsuits filed by disgruntled buyers, but  it was a staggering thing to say. We were familiar with the dilemma. We had gotten our kids a Border Collie because the mutt we'd bought at the pound had grown ,,, and grown ,,, into a very large dog. So, we bought on size. As it turned out, our Border Collie was great, but we heard lots of stories about Border Collies who had turned destructive by not being asked to carry the world on their shoulders. Border Collies want to go and go and go. Anyway, potential Shiba Inu buyers beware. A pretty face don't mean a pretty heart. They're difficult dogs.

We've had Yumi (see above) since mid March. She is four years old. She can be stubborn at times and she requires maintenance (wife brushes her pretty much daily), but I can't say she hasn't been at all difficult.

Due of the maintenance required, her previous parents felt that Yumi needed to be re-homed because they just had a baby. She bonded with my wife almost immediately. We feel very lucky to have her.

So I disagree with your assessment of Shibas but YMMV.

I was repeating the assessment of the breeder. If they all were devil dogs, nobody would have them.

So sorry!  I'm a veterinarian and Lymphoma SUCKS!  It is unfortunately fairly common. I know almost immediately when a dog likely has lymphoma and then have to try and ease the owners into it. Most dogs tolerate the chemo protocols really well, but yes, unfortunately avg life span following treatment is less than a year. Primarily because we won't put pets through the horrors we do people just to extend life. They don't understand what they are going through so just not fair!  Whatever you decide, just lots of doggy quality time is what they want most. So cherish what you have. Again so sorry!!  ((Hugs))
