They were able to save what they could, but this made beachgoers feel better about themselves after seeing these beached whales.

That's why it took a while before humans noticed them there.

hey subs, since when is 88 survivors (and 20 more that MIGHT live) out of 488 stranded pilot whales, the worst whale mass stranding in the recorded history of mainland australia (or tasmania)  "D'awww: sappy"?

in my book nearly 500 whales suddenly killing themselves -for no known reason- is "news" and "sad" and "weird" and "so VERY on brand for 2020".

-but it sure ain't cute...
