Is there a reason this dude is only wanted for abandoning a body, and not, say, suspicion of murder?

Yeah it's called lack of actual evidence

When in doubt grasp for the most insignificant crime you can find

I'm not a bleeding heart liberal ladies and gentlemen but you should not be okay with cops drumming up charges when they can't find any real crimes to charge somebody with

we have too many laws that are specifically made to fill in the void caused for a lack of evidence

After a few days, I imagine anyone would want to get rid of a dead body.

Cop:
We need something to arrest them on so that we can question him so that he can make inconsistent statements and then we can use those inconsistent statements as proof of something

American public:

Okay that's perfectly legitimate

"...whatever happened, I didn't do it..."

Worked for OJ, it probably won't work for this guy.

Because that's what they knew they had him on for sure, and it extradites him back to the state so they can pick it up from there and question (and swab) the guy.
Besides, he will likely talk and talk about the body dumping, which the cops do not really care about, but everything he says about it ties him to the body to help build the murder case they will never mention is the real goal. Probably even ask him for his help solving the mystery of her death, and let him think he is leading them around by the nose chasing his red herrings. Because if he does that he will say things he never would if charged with and directly questioned about murder.
LOTS of idiots fall for that. Most, actually. Always thinking they can outsmart the investigators and talk their way out of a charge.
-
Once saw a guy extradited back on a hit-and-run property damage charge, as a car registered to him had hit and damaged a city street sign.
Once they got him back, he proved he had fled the state before that date, so the person driving his car wasn't him. Which the cops pretty well already knew. So they dropped the charge.
But they had him back in the state, and had the DNA swab from the traffic warrant arrest, so they got him for what they wanted him for in the end.

Because according to the article the cause of death has not yet been determined.

Why abandon a corpse? That's cold.

RIP Frank Spencer

The neighbor "stated Spencer made the comment when they reached the bus stop 'whatever happened, I didn't do it,'" Mitchell wrote.

A: How to go from "honoring a weird funerary request" to "Yeah, I did it" in one sentence flat...

Fair enough. :)  The Simpsons just irritate(s) me anymore. I'm 43 years old and still dealing with this stupid goddamn cartoon that I loved when I was 13. Not your fault I guess, but I was tired of it in '99. Tracey Ullman was sick of it in the '80s, before it was even a thing.
