I agree. We should go back to "Vote for Pedro". Mostly because I want chimichangas for lunch every day.

Can we make that happen at least or try?

You are no longer allowed to encourage positive actions and behavior unless it solves every problem completely until the heat death of the sun.  Anything less is just self-indulgent virtue signaling.

I know I'm on Fark, which was birthed in a gooey mess of snark and cynicism, and I'm been swimming in it for over 18 years now (Jesus!), but even for a longtime Farker this kind of crap is getting tiring.

We don't need to shiat on EVERYTHING, especially when it's something that is reinforcing positive civic engagement.

In other works, fark you, author.

what is it for, other than to make people feel better about themselves?

The NERVE of some people, wanting to feel better about themselves with nothing else accomplished.

In my day you didn't get to feel better about yourself unless you were making someone else feel bad.

A lot of it is. If you can't sell yourself, then what good is this country, right? I NEED VALIDATION. So now we're all salesmen. Honesty or good morals aren't a prerequisite, just like it isn't in business. And we run this country like a business.

so pick your platform, and get busy. Your own moral code is is irrelevant, but your influence isn't, and we know how to do it. We were raised to be important, and we have the inflated egos and the social media presence to do it.

I'll believe it when I see people picking up simpler lives of their own volition, and not because the earth's life support systems were collapsing around them. Until then--you're all farking hypocrites.
You cant have everything, and then demand that others get some too. You already took it all.

Um, nobody on Fark wrote TFA, and Fark didn't publish it in any way, except to re-post it as aggregated news.

And I think subby's headline may be snark.

I love voting. Every time I go to my polling place, I hold my ballot like a newborn. The only mark or creases I want to make are the dark black circles I fill in next to my candidate's names; any other blemish on the page feels like sacrilege.

I don't like the long lines that spill out of my voting place, because I think it's a sign that our system is broken and designed to keep out people who don't have the means to wait around for hours. But even my wokeish cynicism cannot quell the earnest camaraderie I feel standing alongside my neighbors, our phones fully charged for this moment, scrolling through memes or sending work emails until we're allowed that moment inside the ballot box.

Classic, tragic case of someone's vocabulary outstripping their intelligence.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, but I feel obligated to express that agreement in a way that is somehow sarcastic, snooty and critical in order to keep up appearances.

So I guess I'm just going to throw out there the fact that candy corn, Necco wafers, and Bud Light are okay despite people demanding everyone stop liking what they don't like. Also, tipping isn't going anywhere, sometimes people have to travel with infants, and edgy nihilism went out of style with Southpark 15 years ago.

Yes, the "earnest camaraderie" of standing amidst people you ostensibly know, ignoring each other because you can't fathom spending longer than fifteen seconds without a dopamine microdose engineered by an advertising algorithm. You go, girl!

Voting is nice, and you should absolutely vote... But at the same time, I'm starting to get really tired of a certain subset of people that keep telling me to vote as if it's the only way to be engaged, and as if our democracy isn't deeply flawed.

Like, at a certain point, we should probably stop resting all of this weight on just the voters, and address the fact that you can win the presidency by losing, or that some polling places are so ill-equipped for their communities that they face 8+ waits, or that voting machines are just plain the worst and sometimes don't count your vote because they're as electronically secure as an egg McMuffin. Also, throw a can of soup or two while you're at it.
