Is clerking for Clarence Thomas actually a strong point of a resume? I mean... does signing to him during nap time take any real skill?

He has the opportunity to be the ultimate troller by nominating Kamala Harris, or if he doesn't care about having already saying it is going to be a woman, Biden.

I have no doubt he will choose only the most highly respected and impartial jurist in the land.

So to summarize:

The top two candidates on the shortlist to fill the vacancy left by Ruth Bader Ginsburg are

!) A Christian cultist
2) Someone who has aided and abetted the crimes of two Presidential administrations.

Appointing your own personal lawyer to the nation's high court is totally not something a dictator would do.

Why? What makes her better than Merrick Garland?

No but she has a fondness for high fives and banana hammocks

His clerks likely wrote all of his opinions. If he can't stay awake for actual proceedings, I assume that there is no way he could focus long enough to write an opinion.

That said, and this is a high bar, anyone who is basically functioning as a personal attorney for Trump being elevated to SCOTUS when the first major decision will be Trump's reelection is probably the most corrupt thing Trump has ever attempted.

High bar for corruption, but I think it clears.

Sounds like a great idea to give someone who knows all about your crimes an office that you have political power over.

GardenWeasel: How bad is it that garden variety pro-business GOP is the better choice on the list?

Let's see. A Trump personal attorney in the White House (Kate Comerford Todd, TFA), a Judge (Amy Coney Barret)  in a "Handmaid's Tale" style Catholic group that isn't recognized by the Vatican, and Judge Barbara Lagoa. Lagoa is actually a reasonable choice. Daughter of parents who fled Cuba and was confirmed 80-12 to the 11th circuit. She had bipartisan support, so she is obviously out unfortunately.

If she has a shred of ethics, and if she's appointed to the USSC, she'd recuse herself from considering any matter that she advised Trump on. So it wouldn't be a particularly bright move by Trump.

That said, maybe he knows she has no ethical backbone and that's why he's considering her.

Marcus Aurelius: Trump just wants someone else on the court as compromised as Kavanaugh.  That's all.

Why stop there? Kavanaugh was abusive/ possibly rapey towards women, had his debts paid off by someone and is obviously a closet alcoholic*.

Find someone with more skeletons than that, you'll be golden.

*Not denigrating alcoholics. I am one. I also really like drugs. The big difference in that my judgement doesn't effect 360 million people in the US directly/ the rest of the planet indirectly.

If he's nominating someone who has previous legal experience defending him, he wants them to keep helping after Friday

Do it! Make the GOP senators vote for that right before an election, and then he'll drop dead in a few years opening the position up again.

/The Shiatgibbon is just unhinged enough he might do it, pick some 80 year old male crony for the post.

Remember, this is Trump and he expects her to do his bidding if he nominates her and she is confirmed.  He wouldn't bother discussing it with her beforehand; in his mind it is a given that she would always vote in the way he wants.
