They all need better story arcs

As much as this was a guilty pleasure, except for the Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline, the show was pretty goofy. I say this as a committed fan of comic books. I even enjoy Legends of Tomorrow, which leans into the complete ridiculousness.

At least they can wrap it up properly. It's not like they cancelled it on a cliffhanger.

The CW shows probably only have 5-6 seasons in them anyway.

I agree all shows should be 5 seasons and have a clear ending planned and load up with a lot more story and less fluff

Legends is enjoyable BECAUSE it leans into the goofiness of the premise.

And this is one reason I hope Legends goes on forever because it leaves to door open for cameos of characters from canceled shows.

Seems like Kara and Mon-El's relationship really did kill the show.  I actually liked them together, I just think it's funny it sort of came true.

I prefer things actually ending though, trying to squeeze one last season with a cliffhanger ends poorly far too often.

Hopefully some studio will find something for her to do really soon. The show was goofy but often sweet but it came with an opportunity to stare at Melissa Benoist weekly.

It took me a few episodes to realize that this show was a faithful rendering of DC comics from the 70s, when I was a kid. It was exactly as if someone had simply transferred the whole thing to the screen-plotline, dialogue, character design and all. Once I understood that, I found the right frame of mind in which to enjoy the show.

They went for a consistent voice they wanted to present for the show. I hope lots of adolescents watched the show. It was juvenile at times, but we have enough comic book shows that storytellers can fit the narrative to tell stories and deliver messages that they think should be out there.  It is the best part of the huge number of comics IP based productions. They don't have to be copycats.
Movies will follow formula because if the budgets and roi expected. TV shows can find their own spaces and audiences. We can have The Boys and Kara discovering ice cream or dancing in a musical number at the same time.

/That said, I want an elsewhere's story where she and Barry hook up. I have always shipped them as Karry.

I am perhaps in the minority, having enjoyed it overall, but I am both unsurprised and sad to to see it go. They will probably use its final season to scaffold for Superman and Lois Lane, I'm guessing.

I guessed this happened today.. I saw some kind of farewell note from Melissa on FB earlier.

I hope they get a really great final season, like Arrow got.  I'll miss many of these characters when they're gone.. Lena especially.

It was sad to see him leave the Legends.. particularly since all the background noise said that he didn't want to.

The show was great BECAUSE it was goofy. It was fun. DC has lost touch with the fact that Super<whatever> is basically a goofy idea, and should be fun. I felt like this was the first DC live action to get it right since 1978.

I imagine that several of the actors, Benoist included, probably want to go on to different things. I hope that they bring forward other comics that could be turned into great shows as well.

CW made a good run of DC's material. Not in the league of Doom Patrol or the Harley Quinn HBO series, but still, it was fun for the family and folks could share their love of comics with their kids and lead them down the Dark Road of Fandom. Supergirl was fun. What I like about the CW shows is that each has their own flavor. Arrow had its own mythos and tone. The Flash has its own. Supergirl and Legends and Black Lightning are all their own thing, and while they could all intersect a bit, they each have their own Bible of things that make them what they are. Not all GrimDark, not all Hopeful or Goofy, but each has their tone and recurring themes. It's something that Netflix's shows could have learned from a bit, although they had better fight teams, certainly better budgets, and better actors for the most part. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and the rest, all seemed continuations of what Daredevil started, just with different heroes. It was a good basis, but they tend to run together fast, and CW kept their shows unique to one another, and each had their own themes.

And, sadly, I think that they've about all had their run. It was a good one, but as those in Gilead say, "the world has moved on."

hubiestubert:  And, sadly, I think that they've about all had their run. It was a good one, but as those in Gilead say, "the world has moved on."

The Flash is running out of speed, literally.

The Legends had aliens abduct Sarah Lance.. that may be difficult to top for another season after that.

Black Lightning has ended the ASA and the war with Markovia.. but Tobias Whale is back in Freeland, and he knows all about the Pierce family now, and Gravedigger is still out there, though he may approve of what BL did to the ASA.

Batwoman lost their lead.. and while they're creating a new lead from scratch, it's going to be really hard to keep any of the old characters that way, since they were mostly all people related to Kate Kane, or one of her past lovers.  The writers have quite a task ahead of them.

They have Stargirl.. I couldn't really get into it.  It's aimed a bit young for me.  They're going to air one season of Swamp Thing, I know nothing about it really.

We do have Superman & Lois coming up.  Perhaps with characters from other shows coming over.. John Diggle was going to move to Metropolis, and he seemed to find a green glowing ring.

I hope it's because Benoist wants to move on and not because some suits fear there's not enough audience for two Kryptonians.

2020-09-23 6:24:39 AM
And I hope it ends with her joining the Legion and not something more fatal.

Supergirl is the only CW show I could never get into, and I watch the entire Arrowverse!

I grew up loving/reading Green Arrow so I was thrilled when Arrow started, kicking off the Arrowverse.  But Arrow was too dark too often.  I know they wanted him to be Batman, but he's NOT.  I enjoyed it sometimes, but I don't MISS it

Flash I USED to look forward to, now it's homework.  When it was having fun, it was great.  Now that it turned into a superhero show where NO ONE has powers and all they do is talk about love?  I just don't know what their point is?  The big news this week was Killer Frost will get a love interest this season.  Really??  Yeah, that's why I watch The Flash.  To see Killer Frost learn to love.

Legends is the most fun on TV.  Take my eyes, but not my Legends.  Now that Dibney is 'gone', move Sue Dearborn to Legends, have her be their Catwoman.  "Hey gang, we need to go back in time and steal some jewel.  Sue, Rory, you got this!"  We don't need Sue hanging around Flash, inevitably joining "Team Iris" and discussing boys.

Still enjoying Black Lightning.  Worried now that it's part of the Arrowverse something will change.

Same with Stargirl.  Loved season one but I'm scared with it moving to the CW it will change for the worse.

The Flash seems intent on filling the angsty void left by Arrow ending.  At this point, the only CW show I still look forward to is Legends, because it's actually fun in a ridiculous way.  Flash, I'm just continuing out of habit, but am probably going to bail unless next season starts off surprisingly strong.

I tried to get into Supergirl when it started, but after a season or so, I just didn't care about any of the supporting characters.  Benoist is amazingly cast as Supergirl, but the rest of the characters were just kind of there.  I doubt I'm going to pick up any new DC shows on CW at this point.  They've run it into the ground having too many running concurrently.  I'd rather they had done 3-4 seasons of shows with only a couple at a time and rotate them out more often.

I will miss Benoist's Supergirl and Cryer's Luthor (the best ever, if you ask me). The ham-fisted messaging, the sloggy plots, and the exposition-heavy dialog, on the other hand...

/Even my wife, who hates the DC superhero shows, thinks Cryer has found his calling in Luthor. He pulls off ruthless, amoral, and extremely intelligent in a way that very few actors, and no other Luthors, could.

I think he was meant to have his final downfall in the last season finale.. but since they had to end an episode early, that hasn't happened yet.

John Glover's run as Lionel Luther in Smallville was damn good. We're watching that now and I thought he would have done a great Lex.

I've watched every season of Supergirl and all the Crossover events.  Supergirl has lost its step over the years, but it's still worth watching IMO

Since it's going away now... I guess it's time to go back and re-watch Melissa Benoist in her brief appearance in Homeland.  Brief, but awesome, that is

I mean, a previous season ended with the team Captain-Planeting into a gigantic stuffed bear so they could suplex a time demon. How do you top that?

LoT kinda has a Doctor Who potential for long-runningness. You can keep shuffling the cast around, rolling off old members and rolling on new members, do a little tour of the DC back catalog. I don't think they'll keep it going that long, it is the lowest rated of all the shows, but it's the one with a formula that could potentially never get stale.

Oh, yeah, I have no idea.  It's the only Arrowverse show I don't watch.

But it's the Arrowverse.  He could die 100 times over and show up on Superman & Lois 100 different ways.  I'm not too worried about that!

Damian Darhk and Eobard Thawne both had "final downfalls" too.

I haven't heard anything definite about the new season, but recruiting Nyssa Al'Ghul to help search for Sarah seems likely.  And the actress is done with Hawaii 5-0.
