(CBS Pittsburgh)   Sidney Crosby didn't win a Stanley Cup this year but he did win his second Emmy. So he's got that going for him, which is nice   (pittsburgh.cbslocal.com) divider line

Mostly agree. I just thank god McKinnon, McDavid, Matthews, etc. came along to force the league to stop pretending the entire NHL consists of one player

Yep.

He was so farking overhyped for so long that he was easy to hate just due to overexposure. But then he had such a whiny shiatty way of playing. NBC became the Crosby network.

Now that there are several stars, he can settle into an elder statesman kind of role.

My exact sentiment. Now he merely annoys me. Before I flat out couldn't stand him...which admittedly wasn't entirely his fault. As you said, he just didn't help the matter.

It's pretty hard not to look whiny when you're a 20 year old captain tasked with bothering the refs all the time.

Crosby was so over-hyped before even entering the league, that by the time he was drafted I already hated him.

And then he ended up on a team that had fans that cared so little about them they were about to move.

And suddenly there were hardcore lifetime fans.

A lot of whiney flyers fans on here crying as usual...  And they have the nerve to call Crosby the whiner.

Nothing to do at all with Flyers fandom.

Rational people can say that Sid was a whiny biatch without it being about their fandom.

Same as people can call Ben Roethlisberger a rapist piece of trash without it being about a particular fandom.

Mid-Atlantic Regional Emmy. I mean, Cullen's video was FOUR MINUTES long. It cracks me up how every local news station around here has tons of Emmy's...for programming, talent, etc. But they're regional and so specialized they're basically participation awards.

Most of the awards are "self-nominated" and/or "pay the fee to be nominated".  A former co-worker is a "Grammy nominated artist".  He submitted his own album and paid the nomination fee.  That's all it took.

The Streamys, Emmys, Webbys are all like that.

I can understand not thinking Gretz was a particularly fast skater, but "hockey intelligence" and "goal scoring ability"?

/Slippery and he saw the ice like Neo from the Matrix

All of the awards like this submit the same way. Submitting yourself or someone else for the award doesn't equal a nomination. Academy members then vote on all qualified submissions, with the top vote getters becoming the nominations and winner for that category.

Even the national Emmy and Academy awards have numerous specialized categories. You just don't see them because they don't make the main prime time awards show.

And you're right that there is less competition for the regional awards, but while there's something like 60-70 categories, there are still thousands of submissions. Hardly a participation trophy.

Hey, some of us are bandwagon fans from the Lemieux era.

Lemieux era are fans from the first wave of the team when they were not a doormat. That is true fandom.
