It's a brilliant plan. I predict he won't need the SCOTUS to make any rulings on the election though ... he'll be re-elected easily.

Not just this election. This will give the GOP an advantage for the next 30 years or so in any federal election.

Don't worry, the honorable and impartial judges will never let such frivolous lawsuits impact the will of the people.

It might work if he needs one state, but what if he needs 3 or 4?

Beyond the pandemic, there's another factor at play in 2020. The Republican Party is no longer bound by certain rules when it comes to poll watchers or so-called ballot security programs.

The RNC had been under a consent decreegoing back to the 1980s when Democrats accused it of violating the rights of Black and Latino voters. A court found Republicans had stationed off-duty police officers in some minority precincts and sent targeted mailings to minority voters warning about penalties for violating election laws. A judge let the consent decree expire in 2018 - allowing the RNC to bolster voter fraud efforts and coordinate Election Day poll watching.

"The Democrats were able to have poll watchers there to document what happens if a precinct runs out of ballots, for example, or if there is a voting equipment breakdown or if they weren't using provisional ballots when they were supposed to," Riemer says. "Documenting that evidence is extremely important if there are questions after the election that lead to litigation or lead to a recount. And I compare it to, you know, a court case where one side is able to have all the evidence and the other side has none. How is that fair?"

The RNC says it's planning to recruit tens of thousands of poll watchers to observe ballot counting - especially mail ballots - at clerk's and registrar's offices in key states. Elias, the Democratic election lawyer, says that's chilling. "Under a president who is as hostile to voting and whose record on race is so poor, does anyone really believe that they are going to go out and go to the trouble to recruit 50,000 people to stand there like Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts just observing the election?" Elias asks.

This is gonna be a shiatshow.

I am looking forward to the article we will certainly see in December which argues that sure on the surface it may appear Biden routed Trump you have to consider all the states Trump should have won that he lost as evidence of electoral wrongdoing that the Supreme Court must correct and conceding that even if Biden got the votes his radical socialism is unacceptable and rejecting democracy is a small price to pay to preserve America.

There's one reason his idea won't work:

None of his ideas ever have. He tends to float along a little bit on bad ideas but they always come crashing down because he's an idiot. Even the two tweedledums he has on the court look like moderates compared to Scalia and neither has been a lockstep with Trump. I would rather they not be on there but they've hardly been Trumpers.

Don't worry Mitch McConnel wants the voice of the people to be heard.  And Blanche said we could use his words against him if this were to happen.

Ever heard the phrase, "Sometimes its better to be lucky than good"? And it may just be that the horrible ruling you're waiting for is the one where they re-install Trump as President.

How is that wrong?  When liberals can't get a majority - or their majority is too incompetent to pass laws that their constituents want - the liberals just go to the courts and have the courts rewrite the law.  Oh, I guess this must be bad because it's the OTHER side doing it?

2020-09-22 11:21:13 AM
I for one honestly can't guess what the outcome of the election will be. I know Biden would win the votes in a fair election, pretty confident of that. But where we'll stand at Inauguration Day, who knows?

Trump may be a moron, but Mitch, Barr and Putin are not and all three of them have a vested interest in Trump remaining as President.  Trump did not remain in office this long by his own skill.

If I were predicting the result of November's election today, I'd bet on Biden winning the national popular vote by ~7 points (53-46 with roughly 1% of voters going third-party) and ultimately losing the Electoral College by a margin of 270-268.

Actually my takeaway is "NPR is pretending to be neutral again."

We don't need to hear about the 2000 Election, and they need to break whatever protocols they keep up appearances with to actually go after and take down Trump.

All the major media needs to do this.
