(The Hollywood Reporter)   For the second year in a row, the Emmy ratings hit new lows, no doubt thanks to the painfully unfunny Jimmy Kimmel   (hollywoodreporter.com) divider line

Destructor: Who the hell willingly watches industry award shows?

Guessing you're one of those uncultured swine who don't appreciate the deep and nuanced emotions of Dorito-flavored Mountain Dew.  This is why gamers are rising up.  Git gud.

I wonder if his politics have anything to do with subby's opinion of Kimmel...

I was watching old vhs tapes and there is a commercial with Kimmel as "Jimmy The Fox Guy" telling people that if they don't watch Melrose place its going to be canceled and that's all I think about when someone mentions this dude. Imagine taking a paycheck to beg people to watch Melrose place.

Nah, subby is probably Matt Damon.

It was a strange awkward experience from the bits I saw.  Not really the hosts fault though, it's not like they wanted it this way either.  Jon Oliver being offended for not having his new citizenship recognized was probably the funniest moment of the night.

Don't half the people who watch this kinda shiat care about the red carpet aspect and all that? Plus award shows having been slowing dying for a while now.

Or maybe subby was one of the five people who watched the Emmys this year.

Not me. Even when I win.

Possibly.  But your defense of him definitely does.

He's objectively not one of the funniest people in Hollywood.  And he had a tough task - awards shows are declining all over and the format this year was a big adjustment.

The funniest line was an ad lib by Kimmel.  As he was opening the envelope for best competition show, he noted, "previous losers of this category went on to become president of the United States"

Wife taped it. It was obvious Schitt's Creek was going to win based on the tent/microphone setup they had.

With everyone sitting at home and watching television to save their lives, this is an unbelievable level of failure.

2020-09-22 9:00:15 AM
Instead of extinguishing the fire set by Kimmel, Jennifer Aniston extinguished the show's ratings.

I guess there are now many competing places to watch self-important self-congratulatory arseholes. Choices, choices.

2020-09-22 9:39:48 AM
I was watching some of the right wing "pundits" on youtube and they were crowing that the low ratings for the Emmy show were due to the public being sick of television "woke" politics.

How about the Emmy show is just boring, this year doubly so, and regardless of politics unless you're in that industry, there are plenty of more entertaining options for the stay-at-home viewer.

It always seems like the Emmy judges only watch like five shows.  There is more good television now than ever before but the same small handful get nominated in every category.

Now do the NFL....

The wife put this one for the last fifteen minutes. Jimmy Kimmel was a trainwreck. The Man Show days are clearly far behind him. The man has no comedic timing because lets be real, the jokes are written by The Committee to Appeal to the Lowest Common Denominator.

The show itself is completely obsolete unless you're there for the FASHUN! otherwise, yeah, just check out the winners online 15minutes after the show ends.

The OSTs nominees were a joke. Just like your posts.

They do the same stuff about ESPN.  Sure, pissing off 50% of your audience doesn't help, but the declines were coming anyway.

Hours of self-congratulatory pretty people expounding on how important their industry (and themselves by extension are), alienating half the audience by using the show to preaching ultra liberal message. Toss in way to many commercials for good measure.

Jimmy Kimmel did quite well with what he had to work with.

I like Jimmy, I first became aware of him on Win Ben Steins money, he was always cracking wise and trying to make Ben uncomfortable.

"The Emmy ceremony aired opposite both an NFL game (which happens every year NBC isn't carrying the awards) and an NBA playoff contest on TNT."

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that those watching NFL and NBA games that night are generally not Emmy Awards viewers.

I watch the Oscars, but DVR it to FF through musical acts and animated shorts etc., and the Golden Globes' opening 20 minutes depending on the hosts, but haven't watched the Emmy's or Grammy's since the turn of the century

He's just a bore.

Sorry if your politics blind you to that.

Jimmy the Sports Guy. That was his nickname on the Kevin and Bean morning show where he got his start. He was a pretty beloved character back then but this was 25ish years ago.

I've never been a fan of awards shows.  My wife loves all the red carpet stuff because she's into fashion.  I wouldn't mind getting a hold of one the Oscars goodie bags, though.

I like how right wingers assume I like or watch Kimmel because I pointed out their laughable political bias.

I don't.

Doubtful. If that was the case then why not the same for something like "Succession?"
