Conservatives to candidate: "Are you on board with handing the election to Trump, making Trump's whims law, repealing the 14th amendment so discrimination is legal again, the 15th so people of color can't vote, the 16th so the government can't tax you, the 17th so popular vote no longer picks senators and it's a crony appointment, the 19th so women can't vote anymore, the 22nd so Trump can be President for Life, the 24th so poll taxes can be put back, and the 26th so people under 25 can't vote anymore?
Successful candidate: "All that and making abortion a capital offence".
Conservatives: "Welcome aboard!"

Conservatives trumpet abortion because its all about idealizing a person that doesn't exist. It can be whomever or whatever in your mind. Have amazing accomplishments. It will never forget a birthday card, or get a ticket. It will never lie to save your feelings. And you'll never feel any pressure to help it out on a rainy day. But yet, you can call yourself a hero for supporting it. For doing nothing.

I 'm poised to believe that the best possible scenario is for him to pick someone so horribly horrible, with such a tangly woven web of dirty corrupt entanglements and back room surprises, that more than a couple Republicans will have to vote no, even Susan Collins, and that time will have run out and Donnie has shot his wad.

How about a male person of color? Maybe one who's a constitutional law scholar? One way for Trump to really screw with the election would be to nominate Obama. Think about it. All of a sudden it will look like Trump is trying to reach across the aisle in a meaningful and sincere way. They'll say that they'll hold the hearings in the lame duck session for the Senate. Then Trump can withdraw his nomination and put in whatever crazy right wing nutcase on November 4th, Have the Senate do a quick vote because any Republicans who claim to be against it now would have zero farks to give, especially if they just got voted out of office. They'll ram through whatever screwball Trump nominates and seat them in time to rule over any case regarding the election.

I know a few conservative people, who I have heard complain about judicial activism and/ot activist judges.

People should not be nominated for a judgeship based on their politics. There is so much wrong with that. There should be such a thing as reasonable juxtapudence that doesn't require certain political philosophies to infect every decision. It shouldn't be possible to predict how the majority of justice is on the supreme Court will vote on an issue before it actually comes before the court.

But, here we are.

According to most of the conservatives I know when the SC ruled Obergefell, all of the judges that sided with the majority, including Roberts, were considered to be judicial activist setting policy instead of ruling on existing law.

ANY ruling from the SC that is counter to the Republicans desire to keep the US a medieval oligarchy/theocracy will always be considered "activism" by the right.

He'll nominate Ivanka.  And the Senate will confirm her.  The odds of an impeachment removing any federal official are effectively 0, although a trial may become a real possibility in the future.

And even if you can prove Beer Bro's "baseball tickets" were out and out bribery, that still isn't a crime thanks to SCOTUS's 8-0 "money talks and has full free speech rights, so bribery is legal" decision.

The same one that made Obamacare unconstitutional after SCOTUS affirmed it - twice.

As if that stopped them - look at half the judges Moscow Mitch put on the bench. It was never about qualifications, just ideology.

FTFY.

Their ideal candidate would obviously be a bloody-minded authoritarian man like Barr or Cotton.

In an election year when they can't yet pre-determine the result a la bielorusse, they can live with a good Christian girl happy to tell the (((globalists))) to go to hell or Palestine---sorry, the Land of Israel---if they object to her nomination, and call them woman-haters if they object to her insults.

Barnett as good as has the nomination. She has no significant Democratic support, making her perfect for a reality TV spectacle that will get Redcaps to the polls.

Will Amy really jump when Trump says hop? Even Gorsuch didn't do that consistently, so Amy could surprise us, but nobody can count on her independence.

Anyway, I doubt Trump has thought that far ahead. He rarely does. For him "in two weeks" means never. His objective now is winning the election and staying out of jail.

Barbara Lagoa is Hispanic, a refugee, has family abroad, and got non-negligible support from Democrats for her current job, which means, of course, that she is subject to (((globalist))) influence---and is not as conventionally "hot" as Amy Coney Barnett. She's a longshot.

If Trump wants to shore up Florida, that's what voter suppression is for (and Barbara has done her part to see to that in Florida).

Ruth, if you're still out there somewhere and you have any pull wherever you are---and you can read this---pray for us all.

Honestly, I can see a perspective where they would argue that the Obergefell decisions and others should have been left the legislatures to decide (though I 100% support that decision and think the ban on same-sex marriage was a violation of people's fundamental rights).

but if they want to apply those standards, then those standards have to apply to all their own shiat too. You want to talk about judicial overreach, let's think of citizens united. Holy shiat what a terrible and insane decision.

But there's plenty of other pro conservative rulings that have changed law and forced policy.

or if they want to talk about how judicial activism is bad, the courts should certainly not be trying to overturn the affordable Care act.
