This is going to be the start of martial law in "liberal" areas. Trump and Barr are going to try to go around the congress holding funds from HIM and hold funds from people HE doesn't like.

Hahahaha...

What pathetic losers in the DOJ.   Who believes this crap?   I was out walking my dog this morning, went and grabbed coffee, enjoyed the brisk weather, walked through a safe and well maintained park, up and down lots of small streets, and was just thinking how nice the city is right now.

The rubes who buy this stuff are hilarious.  I wonder what the correlation to purchasing $2 bills for $20, buying gold, and buying floor-humping exercise systems are.   Has to be very high.

Oh, and if you're wondering if it is just nice in my section, we walked 8 miles over the weekend (4 up and 4 back) and the city was gorgeous.  Outdoor cafes, people playing in parks, people out walking, and generally a very safe, fun time.   It sucks that some restaurants didn't survive, but it is NYC.  The number of restaurants going into and out of business month to month is already super-high.  Just looks like people are waiting for the indoor moratorium to pass before they open a new place.

OK, stop giving NYC Federal money.  But stop collecting Federal taxes there, too.  The city would be rolling in money if could stop financially supporting everyone in Trumplandia.

This is the flaw in their cunning plan. Conservatives are so stupid and ignorant they believe blue states and cities are "moocher" states. If this ever was accurate, it hasn't been true since 1985.

Do it. Cut off all blue states. We'll stop sending you taxes too and keep it all in-state.

Within a decade, Red States would be third world hellholes.

Question for anyone reading this: with red states now refusing to help blue states with natural disasters, and refusing to grant them any federal dollars at all, not even an equal proportion: why should blue states even stay in the union?

Hell, taking this to it's logical conclusion: even during a pandemic, red staters were perfectly happy (and some were ecstatic) with blue states getting slaughtered by a pandemic. Would blue states be protected in an invasion? We do not receive aid from FEMA, why would we expect any help from the military?

Conservatives think liberals are wimps and will cave to their demands. It's much more likely that these unnecessary power plays just end up radicalizing liberals and creating more secessionists.

I've long thought a law should be passed that states can only receive federal funding in proportion to what they put in. Conservatives would instantly support it thinking it would hurt the blue states and the blue states would make out like bandits while the red states went bankrupt.

They're poisoning the well for when Trump is out of office and starts getting criminal charges in New York. They're going to paint it as a BLM\communist\fascist\anarchist jurisdiction without a hint of irony because their base doesn't know the difference and nor do they care. They are positioning themselves to harness the support of the deplorables to put pressure on New York by any means necessary when the indictments start dropping on Trump and his conspirators.

I'm sure such a progrom would be administered in the most transparent and fair manner, because our federal administrators are all fair and transparent people. Why, they might even arrange games for us to celebrate their fairness, magnanimity and transparency.

You are aware that most of this money is actually spend on federal employees and facilities.

Do you mean that red states would stop having post offices or military bases?  What about customs offices or food safety inspectors?  Should their numbers be linked to how much federal taxes a state pays?

The ENTIRE point of a federation is that the various parties share common resources.

What you are describing is a pay-to-play system, and I'm pretty sure you would be against it, once you got over your urge of STIGGINIT to the Cons.

Yup.

Authoritarians start with what they want to do and then work backwards to claim a circumstance that would justify their planned course of action. Trump wants to cut off funding to cities and to send in his goons, so he comes up with a story that if true would justify that.

It doesn't matter that it isn't true. He doesn't care about that. His supporters don't care. They want to send in thugs to these cities and will support any narrative that achieves that end.

Virginia has the whole "The money comes in from Northern Virginia, and supports the rest of Virginia" thing going on, but like so many other states, Republicans from rural areas always ran on the "Let's take our money back, the cities are mooching from us!" platform. And then they'd get into office and try to push bills like you describe above, and the long-time Republicans who at the time were in charge of the legislature had to pull them aside and quietly tell them that it's just a slogan - that the reality was the opposite and there's only so much they can do to piss off the cities before its THEM that could get cut off, so they need to just STFU. Use it as a campaign slogan, then tuck it away and ignore it until the next election.

They're totally OK with the rubes BELIEVING it. They want them to believe it, to stir up resentment. But they all know (once in office) it isn't anywhere close to true.

This country definitely thinks that property is more important than life.  I mean look at all the gun nuts who think looting or even just petty theft should be punished with murder.
