Young Americans favor Joe Biden over President Trump, according to a new survey, but Trump's supporters appear more enthusiastic about that choice.

This election has always hinged on the turnout. Unless of course, Trump voters think they actually can vote more than once.

A solid both sides headline there subby. Portraying both candidates as being essentially the same by virtue of their age.

You can tell the young Trump voter by the blatant insecurity they exhibit.

I mean, if any young person was "enthusiastic" about Biden (short of getting Drumpf out) I'd want their head examined.

2020-09-21 8:55:27 AM
It's truly shocking that young people aren't enthusiastic about voting for the candidate who proudly proclaimed that he has no empathy for them and constantly talks about how he won't do anything they want or need from him.

Yes but enough about Trump

/well I guess he cares about the pretty 16 year old ones

This is not a year where people forget to vote.

We've got motivations stacked high upon each other to put a functional person in the White House.  The pandemic, the high unemployment, and lots of demonstrations of institutional racism.  We're ready and eager to vote.

Trump never gave a shiat about young or old people. Only himself.

No kidding. I have a theory that if Trump just went radio silent for a couple days, his poll numbers would actually rise a little. He's shooting himself in the foot every day and trying to blame the gun maker.

All elections depend on turnout due to our low participation rate. Whichever party gets a small group, that has been sitting out a few contests, gets the win. Trump got the racist trash that felt like dog whistles weren't cutting it to feel like the GOP was finally talking to them.

People generally vote against, not for.   That's been a truism of politics since democracy began.

Given what happened this past weekend, you "protest voters" don't get to have a got-damned opinion on anything.

You're making a classic mistake: assuming the ratified air inside the Fark bubble represents America at large.

Most people are barely aware an election is coming up. When they say 40% of voting age adults under 30 will vote enthusiastically for Biden, I guarantee you at least that number wouldn't be able to tell you who he is.

I know it seems weird. But, you know, bubble.

Young GOP voters want racism, are given racism, say thank you by voting enthusiastically.  Young Democrats want, well, doesn't matter what they want because, "give me a break"  and they don't "have it so bad"

They aren't owed your vote.  You can win their vote by giving a fark about their issues.

Or keep complaining that they're not enthusiastic enough about, I don't even know what you expect them to be enthusiastic about.

2020-09-21 9:24:54 AM
Which is fascinating that Trump voters are more enthusiastic to vote AND are too shy to tell pollsters who they are voting for. Assuming both are true, we can only assume Trump is going to win in a landslide.

I don't need to be enthusiastic about the guy I'm voting for. You want to know how I know I'm on the right side? Cause people on my side complain about the guy we picked instead of acting like he was sent here by God himself to rid America of heathens.

Given that there are actually Republican politicians who have said that rape should be legal, they kind of have been promised that.

And that's before factoring in Trump's own example behavior.

When I journey in to the central part of illinois, you know, moron land, there are 4x8 foot Trump signs everywhere. You know they'll be sober enough on November 4th, Republican Vote Day, to go and vote in person.  Yep.  November 4th. Vote Republican Day. Where your MAGA stuff.  There might be a parade.

Hoping those 4 x 8s will be cheap soon.  The shed could use new walls.  One layer facing out and a second later facing in.

This is the key line in the article:

Sixty-three percent of respondents said they will "definitely" be voting in November's election. At the same time four years ago, slightly less than half (47%) of young Americans polled said they would definitely vote.

That is 26% more of the demographic.  Not a 26% increase, a straight 26% more. That's millions of votes.

I was just discussing the irony with my wife last night (our parents are all Trump supporters for various reasons) -- these are people whose families were bolstered by the New Deal and all of its subsequent programs. People who are retired and living on investments and social security. They have no dog in the fight, but they're clinging to some vague notion that Republicans are still the values party or pro business -- both of which Trump has basically trampled on. It's baffling.

I can't imagine that the fear of an experienced moderate Democrat like Biden is nearly as scary as Hillary was for them 4 years ago. But there's a huge theory that Biden will just be a puppet of the extremists, which I think is unlikely.

/still voting 3rd party since AL's needle won't move an inch away from Trump
