...and The Expanse was completely snubbed (not even getting a nomination). As much as I like Mando, The Expanse is 10x better. But the Emmy folks have only blessed certain proprietors of shows. They are the old media folks like Disney and Warner (HBO). Others need not apply.

Does it get, like, 100x better really fast? First episode was pretty damn unfunny and the premise didn't grab me.

I don't really remember the first episode, but I don't recall any major shift in the show.  If you didn't like the first episode, I don't think the rest of the show will change much for you.

Cool, good to know.

You're the Worst deserved a lot more accolades.  It was the funniest thing on TV.

Do people make streaming service decisions based on Emmy wins?  If not, I don't think it matters.  I subscribe to three streaming services and about the only things I can tell you about the Emmys is that they are hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and Frasier used to win a lot when I was in college.

Eddie Hazel's E string: wee: Schitt's Creek was unwatchable. I'm happy for them that they got the awards they paid for, but The Good Place was routinely amazing.

Wow, what an incredibly salty take. Tell us it's not for you, claim that it's not funny, scream that it's overrated...

But "unwatchable"? Something that many, many Farkers routinely compliment and enjoy? Something that just won a few Emmys? Oh, that's right- "they got the awards they paid for."

It's fine to dislike something without claiming foul play.

I like the insinuation that the CBC had sway over the American television networks.  I'm sure the network that has a revenue of half a billion totally gets to run roughshod over the cable giants, Netflix and Amazon.

You're missing out on Ted Lasso.

There's not a more positive anti 2020 show on television.

Well, guess it's time to stop my subscriptions then.  What good is streaming all those kids shows for my kids if it's not winning any Emmys.  Come on, get your shiat together Netflix.  True and the Rainbow Kingdom should  have DOMINATED.

I signed up for the trial like two months ago. I haven't watched anything on it yet, and I don't think I've even opened the app. I keep forgetting I even have it.

ABC last fall implemented a ban of advertising by Netflix, so it wasn't able to ante up for any trailer time during the show's breaks.

I'm surprised this doesn't violate some FCC broadcast TV regulation

It gets a lot better. It was a throwaway show for me until like mid season 2 and suddenly I was crying I was laughing so hard.

A lot of people felt the same way about the early episodes. Give it another chance and stick it out a bit.

Parks and Rec is a reasonable analogy.  First season not so great, slowly gets better over time, and then by the time they added Rob Lowe and Adam Scott things really took off.  Not just because of their characters, but because they dumped some dead weight (Paul Schneider aka Mark) and the entire cast particularly Chris Pratt was progressively finding their stride.

It was the only thing keeping me hanging on to Netflix, since they kill anything else I'm half-interested in after two seasons. So damn good.

The Expanse is a solid show and I really like it. All the pieces fit together well. That said I don't thing there's an Emmy level performance from any of the actors, writers or cinematography. It's all solid, but none of it is outstanding.  Maybe last year for some stuff in season 3 but season 4 was the weakest so far.

Disappointed there wasn't more love for BoJack Horseman.  The writing on that show was brilliant.

Ooooh, I thought you were talking about The Good Place.  In which case, I would change my answer.  Schitt's Creek does get better over time.  Although there's no tonal shift, the characters do get better and grow and the show is much better for it.  There's also a lame character in the first season (Mutt) who they wisely drop over time.  If you like Parks & Rec, The Good Place, and Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara, you will probably like Schitt's Creek.

Good to know. Once I get through P&R... and Brooklyn 99... and 30 Rock... and finally watch the new episodes of Arrested Development... maybe I'll give Schitt's Creek another shot.
