It's also, basically, reality.

I made it maybe four episodes in before calling it quits. Just constant assholes farking up and being assholes. I get enough of that here on fark.

I find Shiv's character likeable, but I may be biased because she's attractive.

Sorry Subby, the best thing on TV is Ted Lasso

I love shows that consist entirely of watching people argue in expensive rooms.

Mrs. Samurai watches it and I catch occasional bits.  If I wanted to be more invested in irredeemable assholes, I'd watch more interviews with Benioff and Weiss.

All the characters are awful and I love to watch them.

True, but you can watch her kill people in Black Mirror.

It's really fun to watch if you like over the top white collar corporate intrigue.  The cast is just fantastic, Brian Cox especially plays a character you love to hate.

For a show that inspires such a dedicated following, however, there's something rather unusual about it: you won't like any of the characters.

Is he talking about the Walking Dead?  Because everyone on that show is reprehensible garbage.

//Haven't see Succession
///don't really care to

Tried to watch. Got rapidly sick of the problems of rich people.

I also tried to watch it and hated everyone. The only thing it really proves is that money doesn't buy happiness and that we need to tax these sociopathic assholes WAY more.

I don't watch it for the same reason I don't watch Yellowstone: I don't need to be shown that one percenters are people just like the rest of us. They aren't. fark em.

Succession is good, but there is a better show on TV.

The chick with no eyelids?

Pass.

It's a dark dark dark dark comedy.
The scripts are awesome.
Kieran Culkin alone is worth the price of admission.

Much better analogy! Just add money.

Love Succession, but this I don't agree with.  I find Keiran Culkin's character the only truly unbelievable one. I hate whenever he's on screen

I would argue they are exactly the same, just with different motivations and better stuff.  Poor people fark over people, but just have a smaller sphere of influence.

Ow! That was my feelings!: Billions is better.

Yes!

Succession isn't *bad* but it could certainly be better.  After watching a season, I tend to think "What was the point of that?"

Reading that description... a generic trashy soap opera?

Okay, sure.  Not a big mystery that generic trashy soap operas tend to be popular, they've been literally the most-watched things on TV for basically every decade since, what, the '70s?  To the point that awards shows have to specifically, willfully discount viewership as a metric so that whatever soap is currently at the top doesn't get literally every award every year.

I mean, I'll admit that I'm on the same page with most critics in not being a gigantic fan of the format in general, but because (as with most critics) my objections tend to boil down to over-reliance on cliches more than anything it's entirely sensible that the 90% of TV viewers who consume an amount of media that a rational, normal person with a healthy relationship to entertainment might not give a shiat about that.

What makes it generic?

The acting and writing are pretty excellent.
