Bushnell, Florida. County seat of Sumter County. And I literally never saw a single flying squirrel in all the years I lived in Sumter County.

People who smuggle and/or kill endangered and "exotic" animals are the reason I'm not totally on board with ending the death penalty.  But sadly, it's never applied to them.

Sugar gliders and flying squirrels make lousy pets.
They will bite you right through your fingernail, shiat all over your house, and drop onto your pillow at night because they got loose (yeah, they FLY) and you couldn't find them all day.

Added to this, they carry some nasty diseases and can transmit to humans.

We used to have a colony of them here in the neighborhood...haven't seen one in a few years.

TIL that everywhere i have called home for a year or more, in my life, had a native population of flying squirrels. and i consider myself a nature buff and avid outdoorsman (woman). and i had NO farkin' idea they were around....

damn!      the more you know...

I got them in my yard in NJ. You can give em peanuts they're pretty friendly.
