Those 200,000 dead people have nothing to do with tightening the party's grip on power.

2020-09-20 6:16:20 AM
Because McConnell isn't getting paid to help Americans. He is getting paid to slowly dismantle our nation.

When one person dies, it's a tragedy. When 200,000 die, it's a statistic.

The entire Republican party doesn't care. Do people honestly not realize this? With Republicans in charge it's every average man for himself and if he or hundreds of thousands like him die, starve, or go homeless *shrug* so be it. They're not the target demographic of the party and in the grand scheme of things, normal peoples' lives don't matter to these people in charge, which makes the stupid "all lives matter" signs even more interesting.

Perhaps because confirming a justice doesn't require any acceptance, agreement, or input from the Democrat-led House? Or, for that matter the need to overcome a filibuster? The justice he can ram through without any kind of support from the opposition.

He would likely move immediately on relief if he had both chambers. As it stands, he is hamstrung by his inability to compromise.

I've only seen a few of his podcasts, but I will say this: he appears to be thoughtful, sincere, and intelligent. I appreciate his calm demeanor and clear delivery. He doesn't rant; I like and appreciate that.

You go, Beau!

McConnell: Senate won't consent on Supreme Court nom...

Don't worry, guys. We have nothing to fear! Mitch himself said we really shouldn't be appointing judges in an election year, and he said this not even five years ago. He even held up the process for the better part of a year! Surely he'll remain true to his beliefs and let the next president choose the justice, as that's what America would want!

...Unless, of course, his beliefs are like a particularly acrid volley of Taco Bell sharts that disappear every time he changes underwear. I guess we'll see, huh?

We're limited to having a "biatchy response", but that's only because we also recognize that the only real, actual solution is highly illegal. Something that the Republicans do not give a damn about.

Nope, it's different because the incumbent President that's up for reelection. And that matters because of reasons.

Also we can't risk a 4/4 split in the SCOTUS if the election is contested. Which, again, didn't matter previously, but does now because of reasons.

/'Reasons' translates to 'fascists only believe in taking, and keeping, power at all costs. Everything else is just wrapping paper.'

We already have greater income inequality than pre-Revolutionary France, a plague that Republicans deliberately worsened, people losing their jobs and homes due to said plague (and the Republicans' refusal to do anything about it besides try to give more money to rich parasites), and we've already had months of protests against police brutality and general totalitarian behavior.

Republicans are sitting on a powder keg and playing with matches.

Yea?  Well that's liberals problem ain't it?  "Wondering."  Scratching their head about how they can get along with people who are actively trying to kill them and subvert their system of government.

We have a domestic enemy in the GOP, not a political disagreement.   And until that is reconciled, 'wondering' ain't going to do shiat.

If you think the party that left an illegally appointed head of a federal department in place will act with deportment or any kind of class when they can legally place a SCJ you're high. There's an outside chance that there'll be enough gop senators to stave it off but it's doubtful. When it counts they fall in line. Mitt may hold out but don't count on the rest.

trump will have his SC in place for his contested election and then he'll go on to make 2020 look like a piker. We aren't sliding into authoritarianism, we are there. When your government daily breaks laws and the mores and precedents that keep government honest to entrench power what else can you call it?

Well that's the thing, innit? If the Republicans don't give a damn about the law, justice, and fairness, why should we?

Those 200,000 and counting, along with the millions who would benefit from a pandemic relief package, should be proud to have sacrificed for the sake of getting an ultra-conservative replacement for RBG.

The Republicans played the long game on messaging. The 200,000 coronavirus deaths pale in comparison to the ongoing unborn baby holocaust and they're salivating at the idea that it will finally be stopped once and for all.

They're also salivating at the prospect of making rape legal again and institutionalizing white collar crime in the context of "free market principles".

Also correct, but there is one issue that they've gone Scorched Earth on. As it turns out, it's shaping up to be both in the figurative and literal sense.
