Thank you. Thank you very much.  Gosh... You never really think you're gonna win one of these things so you don't prepare anything, and look what happens?!?!

First off, I'd like to thank subby for starting this thread
Secondly, all the cast and coworkers who made this possible.
And last, but not least, Mrs. Gumby and Gumby Jr.  We did it!

It was a great performance and I love the energy he brought to the show because you don't see that too often.

A skit like this pretty clearly illustrates the difference between Eddie Murphy and, say, Beck Bennet (not picking on Bennet, he was just the first name that came to mind when thinking of generic SNL cast members). Eddie can elevate any material he's given.  This sketch is really dumb - mediocre at best in the hands of the average SNL cast member but Murphy makes something out of it.

Sort of shows how bad SNL is when he wins an award not for the work he was doing in his prime, but for basically showing up and demonstrating how much better he is than anyone currently on the show will ever be.

Oh you're saying the most charismatic performer in the history of the show, and at one time the biggest movie star in the world, overshadowed the SNL cast? Go figure!

He overshadowed his own SNL cast. He would have overshadowed the original SNL cast had he been old enough to be a part of it. You're acting like the fact that Eddie Murphy blew everyone away means SNL is bad and not that he's, you know, Eddie Murphy

Holy hell, that episode was in December? It easily feels like three years ago at this point.

This year is the longest decade ever...

If you get rid of Bowen Yang and Kyle Mooney (but somehow kept Beck Bennett), you'd have one of the best casts in terms of acting ability and comic chops.

/Kyle Mooney is an adult, dammit. How long can he stick to that childish awkward humor schtick of his?
//I was about to say that he's the American Ricky Gervais, except Mooney does have some talent and isn't a complete dick.

If Yang was the biggest star on SNL right now, you may have a point. But as it is, you can cherrypick anyone off of any of the casts and say "Well they're annoying so the show sucks"

His schtick was cute the first few times, and then it was clear that camp gay is pretty much all he can do.
