I tried to submit this story with the headline "gardentired." With both the ESPN link and the Detroit free press link, both had already been submitted.

But the modmins chose a link from his team from 3 years ago. Makes perfect sense.

This has the makings of a really bad health-related issue - I hope it isn't, but the abruptness is quite unusual.

Aside from whining, retire in peace gardy, you were a damn good manager for many many years, and even though your record in Detroit sucks, you worked with what you had, and I'll always respect you. Get/stay healthy.

little big man: This has the makings of a really bad health-related issue - I hope it isn't, but the abruptness is quite unusual.

He was on the edge of this the entire season...he's beaten cancer and he's been stressing out the entire season. Basically walking into each game thinking this might be the one which goes wrong and he gets COVID.

He finally decided he couldn't take that anymore.

Didn't he have a heart issue sometime midway ish through last season? I know he stepped away for a few games cuz the bench coach got ejected...

Maybe that was a dream for my tiggers

Don't blame him. In fact, given his health history and age, Ron Gardenhire should have retired the moment MLB commissioner announced they were going to play baseball this year.

/Here's wishing him health and happiness.
