I had a Canadian coworker in Osaka who got caught with weed. Cops stopped her to check her bicycle registration because we all know white girls steal bikes and found he weed.

She just got disappeared. I have no clue what happened to her.

I was once offered weed by a Jamaican in Kyoto but turned him down and caught some kids smoking on a nature trail another time but other than that ran into less drug use than I do back here.

Ok..That is creepy..I'd like to think that she disappeared herself to another place for "shaming" her family, and that's the  worst thing..Not that she got thrown into prison for a little weed and offed herself or something awful..

Japanese cops can hold a suspect for interrogation for like a month. The trials don't have juries. And the penalty for illegal drugs is equally high.  Several years in prison.

Also if you think they're taking your fingerprints, be sure they're not getting you to sign a confession. In Japan a thumbprint counts as a signature (like illiterate people writing an "X") and saying you can't read Japanese and didn't know what was written on the paper won't help when they show your signed confession to the judge.

Whiskey is legal in Japan.

Are you a Japanese teenage serial killer addicted to horror porn and under crushing stress from unforgiving parents and a brutal school system?

Don't let your feelings of alienation cause you to waste more time committing more murders!

Try marijuana, gain an appreciation for agricultural and Capitalism. You might learn to appreciate your fellow humans that you now rely on for marijuana.

CSB: Years ago my roommates and I met a guy from Japan at a bar, he was visiting America for few months, he didn't know anyone, barely spoke any English and was basically camping near skate parks and crashing where he could. He wasn't a mooch, he just figured it was a good way to meet local people, even with the language barrier. One roommate's mom is Japanese and he spoke enough to chat with him and get his story. Toshi came to Seattle to skate and check out the local hip-hop and break dancing scenes. We told him the parks aren't safe and let him crash on the couch for his time in Seattle. He ended up taking an extended stay for over a month that we gladly offered.

How this relates? Dude looooooooooved weed. A lot. He had no idea that you could buy it at a store here. He just knew it wasn't a big deal with the law like in Japan... and way better pot. The look on his face and the dance he did when we told him was hilarious, I'll never forget that. He made sure there was never a shortage of pot, cleaned the house and cooked us his version of American food, which was always fun (noodles + ketchup + ham = spaghetti, haha). I miss that guy, attempting to figure out what each other were trying to convey while really stoned was good times and lots of laughs.

Laws against dealing LSD are job killing regulations.

Better to buy the LSD from a state dispensary than a terrorist, then the terrorists lose and the state gets tax revenue.

They probably didn't need much questioning, but they wouldn't stop until they got the answers they like.  Oddly enough, nearly every yakuza sings like a bird.  The cops know *everything* they want to know about them.  As long as they are acting in way that keeps Japan functioning, they are allowed to continue.  But once the cops feel they are allowed to shut them down, it they can do it  immediately.

And don't forget double jeopardy is allowed in Japan.  That 1% found not guilty?  He's going straight back to trial until they get the "right" verdict.

My Nepalese housemate introduced me to Soju. It tastes remarkably smooth for a clear spirit based medium strength alcoholic drink.
She insisted it be followed by a squirt of cream straight into your mouth.
Strange custom and the hangover it gave her the next morning made the whole process seem a little discouraging.
She got some strawberry flavour Soju too, it was so sweet as to be undrinkable. Still have half a bottle of it sitting unloved on the drinks shelf.

I couldn't get good weed there, but the hash I bought was strong. I never smoked outside of the house. Also, weirdly, mushrooms were legal then (the 90s), and could be bought openly at a little shop near the train station of my city.
