Well, no matter the result, they're not going back to Beantown until at least Monday night. Also, they're in Orlando.

If I see the same uninspired shiat tonight, I'll assume there was something else really going on there.

Celtics win by 11. Heard it here first

Lots of stories about how pissed off and loud the Celtics were after Game 2.  The press conference after was as shook as I've ever seen him.

We'll see if it makes a difference. Might be overkill but if I were Stevens, I'd show them a video of all the Miami deflections, and all the deflected and loose balls that Miami chased down.  I don't even know if there's an official stat that covers them, but Miami was killing Boston with those

Crowder is freaking tough and on point.  Funnily enough, I remember him being the same way with Boston a few years ago

Of course I go outside to get something from my truck before the game and I get distracted watering the plants. So now I'm five minutes behind.

Him and Smart on the same team was a lot of tough and hustle on the court.

Not to spoil anything (much) but you have a lot of Celtics going to the rim in your near future

I'm basically caught up now after that commercial break.

Celtics getting an early lead is nothing new. It's those last four minutes of the game where they've fallen apart.

I was always kind of surprised that Boston let him go, but I don't remember the circumstances:  if he left via trade, failure to re-sign, etc.  Regardless, he always seemed like a great fit

He has been pretty unwanted.

Miami is his fourth team after leaving Boston in 2017.

Two more quarters like that and one other quarter that doesn't totally suck.

I'll tune in for 4Q as I can only watch on my phone which has a battery life of about an hour these days (only a slight exaggeration)

CSB:  I'm a Kentucky fan; Kanter went there for the typical 1 year, but the NCAA never cleared him to play.  So he was in Lexington but went straight to the NBA.  I went to Lexington for the fall meet at Keeneland (beautiful horse track). While I was there, I bought a big Free Enes pin, which was being done kind of for comedic value as UK was trying to get him approved.

We did the thing where you get a little dressed up for the fall meet.  Then I slapped my big Free Enes pin on my lapel.  All day long people either laughed and said "free Enes!" or gave me the snotty horse crowd stink eye. I have the feeling they thought Enes was some redneck, regardless they disapproved of my shenanigans.

Good times.  And I still have my Free Enes pin.  Go get 'em Enes.

/Miami has 2 UK guys, Adebayo and Herro

Finally some hustle on the offensive boards.

F*cking Herro.

Eh, I wish :). Been pretty much a fanboy since Grantland.  There just aren't that many good basketball writers anymore. He's good at making advanced stat info interesting, but also does good game breakdowns that make me feel like I learned something.

I actually can't think of a good, current comparison in any of the sports that I follow.  Everyone ends up in TV; I still like to read about sports, especially basketball.

2020-09-19 9:56:23 PM
There is nothing about this game that's told me it will be any different than the first two games.

Kendrick Perkins cracks me up. He's on the Celtics pre- post-game and halftime shows on the local Celtics channel.

He was always good in the playoffs for us. But it took him awhile to start making the three-pointers. So he might have just gotten better over the last year.

That's the thing about this game, is we've seen this before. So we don't know if they've learned any lessons yet. And we won't know until the last few minutes of regulation.

2020-09-19 10:10:20 PM
I will say, the "visiting" team has won the last 11 games the Celtics played in. They haven't won at "home" since game 2 of the first round.

I looked up the Grant Williams/Tacko Fall podcast they mentioned.  Looks like it's actually called Anything is Poddable.   I'd check it out, but Grant Williams went to Tennessee.

They're moving a lot better off-ball than they were, even early in games, and are more aggressive.  Just have to keep doing it, obviously

Tatum with 10 boards and 7 assists already. Looks like he didn't adhere *too* closely to Kobe's lessons.  Too many assists

2020-09-19 10:30:56 PM
When you watch a game where one team is playing better than the other, typically they take a big lead, then the other team fights back a bit, but before they catch up the better team makes a couple shots and stops the bleeding. Then they go back up big.

I've seen it a hundred times. My team is getting crushed, then they give me hope with a good run, get within five or something, then next thing you know they're down by 20 again.

2020-09-19 10:32:08 PM
I'm so glad there's zone defense in the NBA.  All that iso-ball while 8 guys stood around looking bored used to be my least favorite thing about the NBA

Earlier they were forcing Robinson to defend, going right at him. That's why he had 3 fouls in the first half.

2020-09-19 10:38:38 PM
I always think in these situations...figure out how many points they could possibly score in this quarter if they get hot. Add that to what they have going into the quarter. Score enough to get past that.

So they had 74. They could score 40. That would put that at 114.

Celtics just need 19 more points in this quarter.

2020-09-19 10:39:06 PM

2020-09-19 10:42:07 PM
And I thought that was a makeup call, but I guess with review the refs will have to figure out how to make it up on a different play.

Or not. Like all fans of all teams, I believe my team is getting screwed because I only remember the calls that go against us.

2020-09-19 10:42:39 PM
They've got to get some combination of Butler/Dragic/Robinson loose, may be a project for Spo's game 4 planning.  Celtics seem to have their number for now.  Butler started making hustle plays for turnovers around this time in the last 2 games

2020-09-19 10:42:56 PM

A third of the quarter has gone by. They only scored four of the 13.3 points they needed in that time. So now it's 26.6 plus those 4. So they can only get to about 104 now.

Celtics just need 4 points to put this game away.

I'm that way with UK now, and really barely watch college ball.  Not very good basketball anymore, and the NBA is very good basketball.  Never been better imho.

I don't even really have a favorite NBA team, I just love to watch good basketball.  Both of these teams are fun to watch, I really enjoy them.  The Nuggets to a lesser extent, these Lakers usually not much at all.  Except when Playoff Rondo shows up

I can't believe the universe may allow Dwight Howard to get a ring

Haymaker from Brown

2020-09-19 10:51:10 PM
Jaylen Brown has been a monster. And what I was hearing, and also what I was saying, is he was not getting the ball for whatever reason. Game 2 he hit some big shots to give them a chance to win near the end of the game. A lot of that yelling and screaming was probably Brown saying, "I can play...get me the ball." And he's smart enough to know he doesn't need to do everything...just let him do his part.

Celtics need 2 more points.

He made the kind of play there that Butler has been making.  Good stuff.  He's been moving really well off ball tonight on offense

2020-09-19 10:53:05 PM
Just over half the quarter, Miami has only scored 14. So they're about 12 points short of being able to get 40. 28 plus 74 is 102.

So even if they start scoring the way they would have needed to to get 40 now...they don't have enough.

2020-09-19 10:56:46 PM

They have not had the open looks they're used to.

If the Celtics have come to their senses, they are pretty good at defending the three. Just a lackadaisical effort for parts of the first two games.

But they'll have to be ready for Spoelstra's response.

2020-09-19 10:58:43 PM
Now they're scoring in-line with what could have gotten them 40 points for the quarter.

I'd bet the farm they don't get to 104.

2020-09-19 11:00:15 PM
Again...the losing team starts to creep back into the game, then the better team starts to pull away again.

Nah...they've already scored more than the Heat can possibly score in one minute even with the two free throws.

If they'd made both FTs and hit a three, though...

Sure...give him the two points. Use up half the remaining time. Probably try to get a couple points.

I disagree with the announcers. Just put another two on the board if you can.

This is getting ugly. Detecting Andy Reid type clock management

I realize I contradicted myself in that last post. I just meant, try to use up some time, but if you have a shot, just take it...not like you're giving them the final shot to tie it up or win it.

I don't think the strategy of "let's see how late we can start and complete a comeback" is a good one to always use.

Sometimes you should surprise the other team by leading early.

Get buckets when you can get buckets, indeed.

I accounted for that. The Celtics can just go shot clock violation. Allow a three. Then get the ball into their best free throw shooter. Which is most of them.

Butler is on the bench for the last 30 seconds of the game.

What does that tell you?

Hasn't really worked out for anyone but the Lakers in these playoffs

Really surprised by the 3 days off coming up.  Trying to make sure they get games next weekend?  Trying to help Heyward?

Game over.

I'm a little embarrassed that somehow the Heat were able to get past my 104 prediction...but, I think I was pretty on the money overall.

When I said the Celtics just needed two more points, there was a lot of time on the clock. Obviously they were going to score more than two points.

They're way ahead of the West Coast finals.

Both good reasons obviously.  I was just sort of expecting Tuesday.  I think this will be the longest in-series time gap we've seen in the bubble

12 straight games won by the "visitor" in games the Celtics played in.

Was kidding about Heyward, as far as I know.  Maybe they want to give that mustache a little more time to grow.  You know, for ratings purposes

Also, there was that strike that was a longer break.

/But yeah, this catches things up and they avoid going against MNF (which is owned by a TV partner, to boot). Win-win.

Exactly.

You don't compete with your own. Even if you think you have a better product than a rival station, you still don't put yours up against there's if you can get all eyes on yours on a different night.

They were up by 9 after the first quarter.

They were up by as much as 20 and the Heat got as close as 6. But for the last three quarters they were only 2 pts better than them.

And that's what a good team does. Take the lead, you have your ebbs and flows, but you don't relinquish the league.

The next thing I need to see from them in this series is to win a game where they're behind anywhere past the first quarter.

I agree. While there's not 100% crossover between NFL and NBA, there's enough and the NBA is in playoffs and the NFL is trying to get their steamroller going in week 2.

Brad Stevens called Eric Spoelstra "Spo" in his post-game.

On Hayward going home for the birth of his son, Stevens says that's his decision.

I have to think that Hayward has a tough choice to make.

On one hand...he finally is getting a son. You know that's important to him based on  his reaction on his gender reveal for his third daughter. He wants to be there.

On the other hand, he knows that he's missed a lot of time due to injury with the Celtics after they paid him a lot of money. He must really want to contribute to this run.

They were talking before the game as if it was a done deal and he wasn't going. I can't blame him either way because, if he goes, doesn't he have to quarantine when he returns?

Also, I think he looks like he'd fight like a gentleman

They said before the game that at halftime he was going to be checking his phone to see if his wife was headed to the hospital.

I took that to mean he'd consider leaving right then to meet her there.

But, I heard the same as you as far as it being his decision to stay in the bubble.

If he leaves (and now how could he after how he impacted this game) he wouldn't be back until midway through the finals if the C's were to make it that far.

And holy shiat, I love this kid Jaylen Brown. I just enjoy how deep he is and how thoughtful his responses are. He said he hardly slept in the last two days just waiting to play this game. And despite no sleep, he dominated this game.

Wednesday I'll probably be watching Cookie Swirl or Kindly Keyin on youtube until my little bittie goes to bed.

As you personally posted 3 times as many comments as the Fakers got on Friday night, I'm okay with this.
