He probably had a few martinis last nite to celebrate.

Same experience with it. I'm almost thinking it's safe to call something who votes with the racists, uses all the racists' talking points, and shrieks -- apropos of nothing -- that it's not racist might be ... well ... racist. Teh horrorz!!!

My advice to it and its fellow talking pointers is don't live a life of fark your feelings then expect your feelings to be considered. Y'know, model the behavior you expect. And all the other stuff your shiatty parents didn't teach you.

So you're saying, if multiple people keep calling you a dumb racist for all the dumb and racist stuff you post online, then maybe the only commonality is you, and you should reflect upon yourself?

Nah, that can't be it. Could be that people are just trying to shut him up, which is why he's always posting!

LordBeavis: Wouldn't holding on to the pick after the election make more sense?  If they fill the spot now, that would energize the left and really do nothing for turning out their own voters.  If they wait, that might even convince some of these Lincoln Project and Never Trumpers to turn out and vote for him.  Worst case scenario for them and the Dems sweep the House, Senate, and White House, they can still ram their pick I'm calling Brett Kavanaugh 2:Rapier Doosh Bro through during the lame duck session.

I don't think they will, though, as Yertle and Fat Turd have the guile and cunning of a wet sponge.

Unless they are planning for a Bush/Gore 2000 scenario. And we know GOP appointees rarely recuse themselves and consider relationships transactional.

hotrod2001: Vote them out.

Romney, Collins, Murkowski, Graham and Grassley are on record saying they won't vote on a SCOTUS opening before the election.  Hold them to that or make them pay for it at the ballot box.

Why not both?

fzumrk: keldaria: Prediction: McConnell won't have the votes to confirm a nominee because vulnerable Republicans will reject the idea of hitting the blue voter hornets nest with a stick because they are already swarming enough as it is. That said, on November 4th after it doesn't matter, those votes will magically materialize regardless of the outcome because the senators will have either lost and go into lame duck mode or they will have won and go into "this is the will of the people" mode.

I don't know how this will pan out in the Senate, but I think Trump is definitely going to push for someone to be appointed before the election.  His priorities are to get any 'win' he thinks he can get, and to get another toady on the supreme court.  Look for upcoming editorials from potential nominees sucking up to Trump or advocating for "unitary executive theory".

I don't disagree, but I expect no votes until after Nov 3rd. Trump will try to leverage this inaction by painting the picture to conservatives that they can have the court if only they re-elect him. Which sadly may work for many people who had stepped away from Trump.

If women actually cared about their reproductive rights, Republicans would never hold office again.

A majority of women have favored the Dem candidate since 1996. Trump got 52% of votes cast by men, and 41% of votes cast by women. That's the biggest gender gap in 40 years. He entered office with a 12 point gender gap in approval rating. Just before the conventions this year, Biden had a 16 point lead among registered women voters.

They'll wait until the Wednesday after the election- then the lame duck Senate and lame duck president will vote in the most inane, backwards hick you've ever seen. If you think justice keg stand was a tragedy, just wait and see what they put on the bench.

It's 106 days until a new Congress.

They won't be able to delay it that long but they will be able to delay it past the election in 45 days.

If she had died a couple weeks later I'd have said it was too late.

Kavanaugh
Nominated: 7/9/18
Confirmed: 10/6/18

So does that...

Does that mean you're agreeing with me that since it's 106 days until a new Congress & they delayed the Kavanaugh confirmation ny 90 days, if she had died a couple weeks later, they could have delayed it a similar amount of time?

Or does that mean you think they can delay it longer, like they did for Thomas, at 99 days, & that they'll be able to push that to 106 days?

Or... you're not suggesting that 90 days is less than 45 days, right?

I thought it might be comforting to know that even the most recent guy took almost 3 months to confirm. People keep saying McConnell will have this done within a week, but the process definitely takes way longer than that, unless there's some special legislative power he's hiding up his sleeve.

I think McConnell can change any Senate rule by a simple majority vote. Much of the United States depended on politicians' honor.

Which Senators? Is Susan Collins concerned?

Murkowski and Romney at the moment.

Murkowski will cave, as usual. So one, and the Dems need 4.

Hey man, you asked a question and I gave you the two on record.

Another thread said Mitt Romney.. and a couple others.  Perhaps even Lindsey Graham.. which sounds like a long shot, but he may be desperate enough to keep his 'job'.

Graham went on record (more than once) back in 2016 that not confirming Garland was setting a precedent that he intended to uphold.  He even specifically mentioned if a Republican won in 2016 and a vacancy became available in the last year of his 1st term, that he would not fill it - which is the exact situation we have here

Now, he said a lot of things in 2016 that he doesn't honor now, so who knows if that will hold up or not, but there are at least two different videos of him saying that (once on a talk show, once in a Senate hearing)

Romney is a pretty definite 'no'

Grassley, who knows - he said he wouldn't (in the past) but now is anybody's guess

Murkowski and Collins will be against it right up until they vote for it, so don't count on them

Confirming a Justice before the election is one thing.  Confirming it after the election, especially if Trump loses, is completely different.  After the election, the people have spoken and said they want Biden to be president.  The people say they want Biden picking SCOTUS Justices

Also, picking one before the election gets that Justice seated before the election challenges all come in, where Trump sues every state that he loses in and ties up the election for months
