Sarah Jessica Farker: I'VE GOT IT!!

They can't nominate a new person and get them in for the judgment on the election.

What they have to do is CHOOSE ONE CONSERVATIVE JUSTICE and force them OUT of the decision. Recusal, whatever. Just make sure that it's 7 justices and because RBG was liberal, it's a conservative who has to sit this one out.

What are you smoking??

Today was one of the first days we had blue skies in a while. There was still a very visible layer of smoke, but I could actually see the mountains from work almost all day.

Here is a few days ago:

Sometimes those light buildings fade away completely. There is one with a black top (above the white camper) that is barely visible sometimes. It is also closer, maybe a half mile. I know the smoke is worse in other places, closer to the fires, but it is mind blowing to watch all day.

It was really clear all day, but windy, and when I crossed the lot I mentioned that it suddenly smelled really smoky, perhaps the wind was shifting. "Naw, the boss is barbequing for lunch."

Sometimes the National Guard does touch-and-go landing practice. Maybe 6 or 8 at a time, looping back around really low. They are huge, and their approach is WAY lower than any other planes, even the single props. Once it seemed like 5 cargo planes were landing in a row, but it was the same one, doing really small loops. Sometimes they do their touch-and-go's the other direction and take off from our end. When they loop around it sort of looks like they are circling my building. When we opened in May we were deemed 'in the flight path" and had to get FAA to determine otherwise, but now we can raise our gear in the air. So clean and shiny.

The rain stopped this afternoon and the sun came out and bits of blue peeped out from among the clouds.  Dad and I went outside and stood in the driveway and gawked at the sky like we'd never seen it before.  After more than a week of choking smoke it was lovely to feel the dampness in the air and feel the sun on our backs.

And then the news of Justice Ginsburg's death.

2020 just will not farking let up, will it.

First.

I knew a guy in my college dorms whose last name was Ruth and we joked about not getting married.

So, data miners be damned, I'm sure they already know, my maiden name is the same as my father's in the obit. The name I crossed out may or may not have been my married name, or my middle and maiden name, or my middle and married name ;)

My brother Paul still lives across town. We moved from SF to Sunnyvale not long after dad passed. Brother Doug lives in a totally different state. My mother, Alice, passed away a bit over three years ago. I forget which year exactly it was that Aunt Florence passed, but I was able to inherit all of her Eastern Star jewelry.

I lurked here for years and have read the Maddite thread for a long time, but never felt like I had anything to add. However, this news has put the piss puddle on my shiat sandwich. I was laid off today and am unemployed for the first time in my adult life, then I get home to hear this news. I know Moscow Mitch will have nominee hearings before Ginsburg is even in the ground and we are well and truly boned!

What's your favorite deli meat?

Pastrami but I have to be careful how much of it I eat.

Someone else already has pastrami, you'll have to pick something else.

Can I interest you in a nice olive loaf? All the good choices have already been taken by people that didn't lurk. I was lucky and got in early and secured roast beef for myself.

But yeah, pastrami was one of the first ones to go. Last lurker got stuck with liver and onion on pumpernickel. Poor bastard.

Yeah....

I had a big snafu with ActBlue some weeks ago and since then I haven't donated AT ALL.

My problem was their tiny input field for 'Other amount'.

I'd typed in a 10 and for whatever reason, it loaded to a new page, and so I typed in my amount again. The text field was WAY too tiny to see what was in there...

..and because my information was saved with ActBlue Express, $1,010 got charged to my account before I knew it.

It has since been rolled back, minus about $12 for fees and maybe weirdness with having a PayPal balance, but I am really super hesitant to use ActBlue again until they fix that 'other amount' text input field.

So I'm kinda glad I have a good excuse to blow off any ActBlue donations any time soon.

and GIS did not disappoint.

the top hit is below. good times.

the rest of the hits we mostly bleh, eh, or not, and also not too funny.

but that first hit above... and i'm on a shared work PC... i think the settings on this PC have are not set up properly, tho, so the PC is remembering me even with me not logging in (shared instructor acct std in classrooms for our IT dept).

youtube visits on this PC seem to know/remember me too.

in past semesters, the update each term should include that the PC does not save the 'history' each evening upon forced reboot at 1am... but it seems that some terms the IT persons forget that step or setting and the PC acts like it knows me... more and more as each week goes by.

oh yeah, they updated it week 2... we're in week 5 now. that update person must of forget that trick. oh well...

/also, first thing i thought of when seeing the GIS result above is the shopper rugbydude

Taylor Mental: Regarding RBG's passing and the looming battle over her replacement -- one weapon Dems have is the upcoming need to pass an omnibis funding bill before the end of the month. Schumer could shut down the government by blocking it for a month unless McConnell forestalls his crazy court-packing plan.

But it will take a lot of outrage from Dems out in the country to produce such political will in the US Senate. So naturally it won't happen.

I heard in the other place the dems could simply walk. They need 60 to put one in. They only got 51.
