yeah the dems know this made things much more dangerous. We gotta do this.

Darth_Lukecash: Taylor Mental: So I rode down to the general store tonight and passed our polling station at the volunteer fire department. They have a Trump-Pence 2020 sign out front. And they send me letters asking for a donation. Sheesh.

That is a direct violation of voting laws.

If it is a polling place, no political signs should be visible

That's what I thought. But upon checking Texas' statutes it appears HOA property, and they are, is specifically exempted.

I will get a pic of this sign and the polling station next time I ride by. Maddites can help decide if I should take action on this.

DannyBrandt: 2020 is a kick in the balls: DannyBrandt: 2020 is a kick in the balls: It's my username every damn day this year. RIP RBG 😢

I lurked here for years and have read the Maddite thread for a long time, but never felt like I had anything to add. However, this news has put the piss puddle on my shiat sandwich. I was laid off today and am unemployed for the first time in my adult life, then I get home to hear this news. I know Moscow Mitch will have nominee hearings before Ginsburg is even in the ground and we are well and truly boned!

What's your favorite deli meat?

Pastrami but I have to be careful how much of it I eat.

Someone else already has pastrami, you'll have to pick something else.

Can I interest you in a nice olive loaf? All the good choices have already been taken by people that didn't lurk. I was lucky and got in early and secured roast beef for myself.

But yeah, pastrami was one of the first ones to go. Last lurker got stuck with liver and onion on pumpernickel. Poor bastard.

That was me.... But to be fair it was pastrami from Miller's East West.

/mmmm.... Marbled rye bread.

Regarding RBG's passing and the looming battle over her replacement -- one weapon Dems have is the upcoming need to pass an omnibis funding bill before the end of the month. Schumer could shut down the government by blocking it for a month unless McConnell forestalls his crazy court-packing plan.

But it will take a lot of outrage from Dems out in the country to produce such political will in the US Senate. So naturally it won't happen.

I heard in the other place the dems could simply walk. They need 60 to put one in. They only got 51.

60 is the number of votes needed to pass major budgetary law.

Moscow Mitch changed the Senate rule for judicial appointments to a simple majority.

That is what I plan on doing today as well, at least I hope so. I have to go mow the lawn here shortly and then wait for the missus to tell me what we are doing today. Maybe I can get her to go bike riding out at Fort Monroe. We can also take the dog so she can play in the sand.

But of course. McConnell's precedent was always obstructionist bullsh*t and should not have been tolerated at the time. They were never going to allow that precedent to stand in the way of their objectives. And *when* they take away the ballot box from the people I really hope America is up to the task of rectifying the situation.

What they said was deny the needed 60 for Quorum. Basically, all Senate Dems stay home.

In Texas, all political signage must be a minimum of 150 linear feet from the entrance to the polling place.  The term "Entrance to the polling place" in locations where the polling station is located within another building can be interpreted as either the outer doors of the building or the inner doors of the actual polling station.

The senate requires 51 to be on the floor for a quorum. Democrats would need some other procedural alley to block or delay till a clock runs out, quorum calls and filibusters are not going to work.

2020-09-19 11:47:55 AM
and on the 60-vote thing, someone probably just confused cloture and quorum. Regardless, McConnell eliminated the 60-vote cloture requirement for judiciary appointments.

Can only hope he ends up regretting that decision in January.

There was a time. Once, long ago.
