We're recruiting for FFPL - the Fark Fitba Prediction League.

Fark user imageView Full Size

This is a simple game in which you predict outcomes of games in the English Premier League. Those predictions can be made in a minute - but the anguish can last a lifetime!

After our usual host closed down, we've moved to https://premierleague.predictthefootball.com/profile/index

Joining is free. Please do so using something similar to your Fark handle, so we know who is responsible for which awful prediction in particular.

Once joined, search for the mini-league Fark Fitba Prediction League using the code 582582

All welcome, no experience needed, and it does help keep your interest up in the more obscure games. Chelsea Vs Liverpool for example.

There is no requirement to join in the kibitzing in the threads, only to make predictions for each round of games.

A couple of people are a few points ahead after Round 1, but don't let that put you off as the number of games will easily swallow up and small advantage.

Meanwhile, congrats to MrH, wh0 won FFPL last year.

The short gap between the seasons has thrown me out somewhat. Usually by the time the EPL gets going again I'm dying to watch some footy.

But this year I didn't even watch anything last week, I just didn't feel it.

Here this week though, after I finally managed to convince my Apple TV that yes, I do have a subscription to bt sport, I'm looking at it *right now* on my computer.

I can't believe he protested it.
He had no intention (or chance) of getting the ball & intentionally went for the player

And hew protested that? He should get a second red card for that, if they could give him a second red card.

I've seen claims that Mane kicked out behind him, tripping Christensen up.

So confused by everything 2020 that I completely missed all of yesterday's matches, including predictions and the thread.

Having caught up, I see that Manchester United are in top post-Fergie form already (how many weeks until we see OGS out! banners behind planes?), Everton are giving Rog Bennett the tingliest nipples in the world, Liverpool have bought something called Jota, and Arsenal look like a coherent club. Life is wild.

As to the MIGHTY Oxford United? Well, they've had a shiat show of a start. Out of one of the knock out competitions already, and two 2-0 losses in League One leaving them bottom of the table.

That's the form that acquired them the ironic MIGHTY nickname in the first place. Hopefully they can return to unironically living up to the moniker before season's end.

Also, Golf Bale is going to be playing under Jose at Spurs? What the what?

medius: spurs should sign ozil

Arsenal fan here, I've thought for a while now that Ozil should be loaned to one of the London teams for a portion of his salary with no obligation to buy. Edu and Arteta are clearly not going to play him because he refuses to play defense and he refuses to accept a sale because he wants to leave for free at the end of this season. So why not make an attempt to move a part of his $350K/week salary to one of the other London teams? He wouldn't have to move and some of those teams might be willing to play him and not ask him to play defense.

Chelsea - not gonna happen. Lampard has nowhere to play him now that Kai Havretz has joined to play with Werner up top.

Spurs - not gonna happen Mourinho would shoot him. He's the one who sold him to Arsenal because he wouldn't play defense at Real Madrid.

West Ham - they play a deep back 5 and look to hit people on a counter attack with crosses to Antonio, playing a 5-3-1-1 won't work because Ozil won't have anyone to pass to, but maybe Moyes could convince himself that he could make it work.

Fulham - they are going to give up 2 goals or more a match anyway, why not play Ozil in a 4-2-3-1 and try to keep pace with other teams instead of lose by double digits every game?

Cyrstal Palace - starting out on fire playing a 4-4-2, but that can't last forever and their midfield will get overrun by some teams. Zaha, Townsend and Ayew could benefit from having Ozil threading passes, Zaha the most because teams couldn't focus on him any more.

So would either West Ham, Fulham or Crystal Palace take a chance on Ozil for part of his wages to help them stay up or maybe even push further?

As far as Ozil, he has to play some to keep his game skills up. If he is banking on moving to Turkey after this year to coast into the sunset as Erdogan's mascot then he has no need to play anywhere else. However, if he still wants to actually play beyond this season, he'll need to play this year and staying in London would probably help him take that "leap" to another team.

desertgeek: On Sky today, this was Patrice Evra on Wilfred Zaha:

"We all know Wilfried Zaha is better than Crystal Palace, with all due respect, he's such an electric player," said the United legend, who then dropped the bombshell...

"I think what ruined his career for Manchester United is when he had this true or untrue affair with David Moyes' daughter.

"Because I remember in pre-season he was playing in every game, but when that news came out... he was out of the game and he disappeared.

Sky has apologized for his comments on air.

He never even met Moyes' daughter

Always baffles me that they use irons as a nick name given what it means in Cockney rhyming slang

desertgeek: Princip's Sandwich: desertgeek: Pista: NBCSN getting a bit of a hard time on the twitters

I'd have to believe that if not for 2020 postponing everything, this wouldn't be happening. But with multiple events they cover all happening this weekend (one of which wasn't on their calendar at the start of this year), something had to lose.

Now, if this is still happening in; let's say February, then NBC deserves all the torching they get.

Counterpoint: there's no sports competition at this timeslot from those postponed events.

See my headline (I'm the subby for this thread). NBCSN as the Tour de France on. And from I've gathered, they can't just put sports on their other channels at will for some reason (regulations about those channels?). USA already has a Notre Dame game scheduled later today.

Somehow, I glossed over that completely. Do people really watch the Tour de France?

Might be the dumbest programming bump since ESPN Deportes regularly skipped La Liga to play the major golf tournaments around the turn of the millennium. Because god knows the people of the Caribbean cared about the green jacket.

Arsenal are winning. Arteta has a deal for a custom LEGO set if he wins the title.

the epl teams that ran long in the european competitions got the first week off here, maybe something like that?

They only "ran long" by a weekend before getting yanked. The only team who should still be resting is Sevilla.

It looked like they were running drills.

desertgeek: whither_apophis: I thought this was going green for Bayern stomping the scheisse out of Schalke

Sorry, I didn't know they started tonight and it was on ESPN proper. But what does it matter? As I type this, the BBC shows the score as "Bayern 7 (seven) - 0"

now it's 8-0

no worries, it seemed at first like it was going to go green at 1:00 but then it changed
