Gotta hand it to Trump, his little cabal of evil doers have effectively neutered the Congress and SCOTUS.

Yet more evidence that the election is rigged against Trump.

The Deep State, the media, the virus, the voters, reality... they are all in on it.

I can't wait to see that opinion stand in the face of other religions endorsing from the pulpit. I believe I can hear the cries of "SHARIA LAW!" already.

aaaaannndd yet another reason I get to laugh obnoxiously in conservative republicans faces whenever they start going on about corruption in government. This pass good until a merciful sun swallows us whole.

There it is, the stupidest thing I've read all day.

The article, not the comment about taxing churches.

2020-09-18 1:15:39 PM
The head of the Federal Election Commission chastised Catholic bishops during a pair of interviews this week, accusing church hierarchy of "hiding behind" their nonprofit status and declaring that this year's U.S. election amounts to a "spiritual war" that threatens the country's "Christian moral principles."

Why the fark aren't we taxing these assholes?

If it makes anyone feel better, this man has no power. See, the FEC is supposed to have an equal number of Democrats and Republicans on it so that actions taken are not partisan. Donald Trump has been filling the Republican seats but not the Democratic ones. As a result, the FEC lacks a quorum to take any action for violations of federal election law by anyone.

Since he's not doing anything else, that leaves the head of the FEC to tweet out how amazing Trump's accepting the nomination at the White House was and to tell Christians they have a duty to convince their neighbors that you cannot vote for a Democrat and expect to get to heaven.

2020-09-18 1:16:51 PM

And Constitution. I was worried about the likelihood of a Constitutional Convention a couple years ago when the GOP had 33 state legislatures (one shy of the ⅔ supermajority threshold needed to invoke a Convention of States under Article V). They lost three in the 2018 midterms and I felt some relief. Turns out they needn't've bothered. They found a way to destroy the Constitution without a Convention.

Let's make their minds up for them by rescinding any tax exempt status.

Trainor, who is Catholic and attends Mass weekly, was asked by Church Militant founder Michael Voris about a priest who recently published a viral video in which the cleric declares that no Catholic can be a Democrat. Voris pressed Trainor about news that, in response to the video, a bishop plans to attempt "fraternal correction" of the priest, with the hierarch arguing the priest has inflicted a "wound" upon the church.

"I don't think a bishop has the right to tell a priest that they can't come out and speak," the FEC chairman said.

Then why do you bother going to church sucky Catholic dude?

"Though the president's executive order directs law enforcement authorities to not enforce the Johnson Amendment, that statute remains the law of the land and cannot be undone with an executive order. Anyone tempted to violate the statute should keep in mind that a future administration could well decide to enforce the law as Congress wrote it," she said.

This is the number 2 reason I'm voting for Biden.
The number 1 reason is I'd rather not die from Covid-19.

Which is why the womenfolk have to be prudes - so the christian men don't get all rapey.

TheMysteriousStranger: Preachers can endorse...

Nah, he explained that:

Trainor suggested the bishops avoid political matters because they, like many faith-based groups that offer social services, receive funds from the federal government. He described the arrangement as "almost a payoff" by the government to encourage faith groups to stay silent or neutral.

Refusing to endorse means you've been bought off by the Left. Besides, Trump already signed that he wasn't going to enforce the Johnson Amendment so that means the law is repealed.

Weintraub: "That's not how any of this works."

That's the thing.

Stress exhaustion is very real, and repeatable (if cruel) psychological experiments show this.  It can lead to giving up, not fighting at all, and doing whatever you're told, just because you can't take it any more, and keeping the stress up keeps the victims willingly compliant.

And it worked on Fox News viewers.  Worked very well, as we can see.  And they keep it up -- that's why the message isn't important, why the viewers are addicted to watching, why they don't even notice any hypocrisy, etc.

However, it doesn't have the same result on everyone.  Some people give up and do what they're told and look for any source of authority and comfort.

But some people go down fighting.

We just have to hope that they have already gathered up all the people inclined to go along just to hope to find some false comfort, and to stop having to fight.  We have to hope that population is about the 30% they already have.  But CoVid is doing to the country at large what racial / religious / local tribalism fear mongering couldn't, and you can see it in even otherwise rational and intelligent and science-minded people starting to get sick and tired of having to be careful and limit their activities, etc.

The rest of us need to go down fighting.  And have to hope we're enough.

A lot of them are nice people, who beside that childish worldview, are otherwise competent people. It's always the right-wing assholes trying to impose their cult-beliefs onto the rest of us that are the problem.

If one party advocates for killing fetuses, and thats deemed to be murder by a particular religious group, then individual priests or ministers or imams or whatrver can walk the line in condemning that position and the parties that hold it, in a general way.

People have a right to follow their conscience in choosing their leaders. To say otherwise is to deny people religious freedom.

What they cant do is constantly advocate for particular candidates as part of their job.

Turns out, continually letting a party whose stated goal is to destroy the government take power ends up in the government getting destroyed. Who knew?

>Trainor, a Republican who was nominated to the FEC by President Donald Trump and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in May 2020, also told Voris that because of a 2017 executive order signed by Trump, churches are free to endorse political candidates.

What the hell is this? Like an Executive Order has anywhere near the authority to do that?

Biden's gonna need an army of HR people for all the house cleaning he's going to do when he takes over. Separation of church and state is not a fallacy.  It is embedded in our country's founding for God's sakes and is embedded in our constitution.

2020-09-18 1:39:22 PM
Suggesting the tax exempt status is a "payoff" is offensive. Separation of church and state ensures religious freedom for all faiths. America is not a theocracy. This "Trey" guy from the FEC needs to go back to school.

2020-09-18 1:39:35 PM
I absolutely agree with the FEC guy, churches support pathological lies, amoral garbage, rape, racism, treason, fraud, cowardice, ignorance and stupidity.

Thinking any christian would do different means you haven't been paying attention for the last 4 years.  Perhaps one of their members can tell everyone how trump, jim bakker, any falwell or huckabee is greater than Jesus.

2020-09-18 1:39:40 PM
The neighborhood TrumpHumpers who post yard signs are evenly split between also having "Support our police" and "Protect religious freedoms" signs (some have both). It's bad enough to support Trump, but to double down on the religious bit... SMH.

As it should be. Urging parishioners to participate in a representative democracy is a damn sight different then endorsing one particular candidate over another.

If one political party regularly breaks 8 commandments out of their own self interest, and the other party breaks 1 commandment by proxy to help other people, I'd say that you should stick with the party that only breaks 1.

It's on the same street as a huge "Mfume for Congress" sign.

Both the church and the sign are around a predominantly Black neighborhood.

I don't think the church's sign is akin to endorsing a candidate, but I do think it's interesting and related to the thread.

FTFY.  Hierarchical management structure is pretty fundamental to the Catholic Church.  If they want ministers who don't have to follow church leaders, they should be looking for the appropriate Protestant sect.  What's more, their church leader, the Pope, has made it very clear he would never endorse Trump.  These guys are splitters.

Church Militant?!?  Are they pining for the good old days of the Crusades?  Can't even...
