That's until some retailer jumps date and starts pre orders early then they all jump. Which is what happened with the PS5. And many other things before.

The real issue is all the scalpers. I don't see why they can't limit it to one per address or something.

Retailers don't care, they still get their money. Same with ticket sales. Now if Sony/MS/etc. said that they have to have a CAPCHA or limit by address they might make an effort to implement such a thing for high demand products.

I doubt MS/Sony care much either, for similar reasons.  People are still buying from scalpers, or else there wouldn't be any scalpers, and someone buying games for a unit is someone buying games for a unit, independent of where that unit was purchased.

/They may even prefer units sold through scalpers, they can deny warranty claims with the reasoning of "unit wasn't purchased from an authorized distributor".

Back in the day I used to go out to an arcade in a yard shed next to a mini golf course to blow a few dollars of quarters on arcade machines. Now people are paying premiums for hardware that basically sells them micro transaction stores made to look like video games with no tangible products they can hold on to outside of the game console while having what virtual things they do get be taken away at any time because of "licensing" and a grump company/developer. Eventually the console will get tossed like yesterdays news when it won't run anything because "licensing" and "end of life" of the servers it relies on.

Isn't intentional false bidding in order to affect the selling price illegal in many jurisdictions?

I can understand getting certain story-based high-profile games asap, in order to avoid the inevitable internet spoilers that will be posted. Anything else, though, is pretty silly.

Yeah, it certainly is, but I don't think anyone's going to make the effort to enforce it in this particular case.

What's interesting is that the Ebay listings from the scalpers generally don't have any bids. There are a couple that do, but they're the lower-priced ones (under $1000).

The thing that gets me is that at least a few of the bids are for the "paper edition." From the listing:

"This is not a real GPU; it is a piece of paper with a picture of the NVIDIA RTX 3080 on it."

Current bid: $1784.00

I checked in Denmark, you can indeed pre-order from Tuesday, estimated delivery 2 months.

They do however sell the last gen X-box at the same price as the new X-box S series, which seems stupid to me.

You can order an 3800 as well, also with a quoted delivery of 2 months.

IMHO it doesn't seem like a problem to me here, there's no expectation of getting either one now.

You can also pre-order a 3900. Farking 1500USD inc. 25% tax! Ouch.

Nope, just a common scam that targets people who don't read the description carefully.

A couple of sources claim they're 3D models.

Considering their price point, I'm betting next gen systems will have similar gaming performance to a RTX 2060S card. Equip that in a half decent system, and you can expect to enjoy a similar lifespan to next gen systems as long as you don't mind playing future games at console quality detail levels and frame rates.

Because there is a pretty big difference in hardware for the price difference.

Look... If you Xboners need to involve your parents in your SeXXbox purchases, then that's *your* therapy bill. I'm a Sony fanboi, so it's not even kinky for me, what with all the tentacle stuff we have to endure, and all.

Two 3080s should get you better rendering performance than a single 3090, so at least your dream-brain had a good idea.
