You know there had to be points where he was just snaking along inlets and bays, virtually backtracking, circuitously for hours and hours each day with the same exact scenery and thought "Good thing I'm drunk or this would be boring."

Amazing feat/feet.

It took him 5 years to walk around the coast of Britain?

According to Google Maps, it only takes about 2 weeks to walk from Land's End in Cornwall to John O' Groats in Scotland.

The Island of Great Britain has a coastline of 11,076 miles.   You can walk that in about 1.5 years if you follow every nook and cranny in the coastline.
