This! This is why we can not ever defund the police. This is how they keep us safe, each and every night.

They have to kick 30% of that money upstairs to their bosses, and the bosses have to pay the Feds off out of their cut.  It's all very civilized.

Fark. Half the cops could find more weed in their kid's bedroom.

And you know they're all looking at the haul and thinking, "Shiat, after we split that up, ain't none of us even gonna feel a buzz...I need a transfer to DEA..."

That's $650,000 worth of drugs at police street value estimate.

Did they take twenty seven eight by ten color glossy photographs with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one was?

Is it just me or should police probably not be confiscating money when they aren't the ones who have the power to determine whether that money was illegally obtained?

They forgot to include that sweet backpack.
Looks like it might be a Jansport and those things can run as high as $17.50 at Academy.
Unless you get it on the tax-free back to school weekend then its probably an even $15.00 but still thats almost twenty.

The short answer is "no".

But we are not a country filled to the brim with smart people. We're pretty farkin' dumb. In general.

Totally justifies that quarter-million dollar a year line item in the town budget.

I checked with the police, they said most definitely they should be snatching up all of that money

At least they are stopping crime. They did not need to announce this, though.

All the smart people are occupied with making money for the elites.

I know that there are laws on the books and what you are trying to say, but in anywhere worth living, none of this is even evidence.  This garbage has to stop.

Legalize drugs, and we won't have to deal with this anymore. Assuming you believe you own your body, the jails are filled with people who committed victimless crimes. If you believe you are someone's property, then it's ok for someone to tell you what you can and cannot put in your body.

On another note... how are the cops going to sell the weed back to them if they took their money?

Subjecting somebody you pulled over to a K-9 search just because you smelled 'narcotics' isn't 'stopping crime'.

They should have cited the driver for the movement infraction and let him go. Unless the driver was under the influence to the point it could be legally defined as a DUI-- taking somebody's personal stash of weed, or whatever small amount he was going to sell to his friends is a gigantic waste of law enforcement time and money, and unnecessarily fills up the prisons with low-level, non-violent offenders.

Laughable, except for the cost of all that fine policing.

That hard core 'crime' there is about 10 percent of what I just walked to the corner weed store and purchased.  Grow up.

Yeah, and probably $750,000 worth of cash at police street value estimates.

There just happened to be an officer there when he just happened to make a some minor violation for which they needed to call the dog. Was the driver "Canadian." The town is about 96% non-Canadian.

Better give the arresting officer a month of paid leave to deal with PTSD issues from encountering such a hardened criminal.

I was at the legal weed store yesterday. I could have purchased an oz for $49 if I wanted to smoke some leaf.. and actually wanted an oz of weed. Legal weed is the bees knees, I tell ya. Seeing stuff like the article cracks me up.

StoPPeRmobile: All the smart people are occupied with making money for the elites.

While the planet burns down around them, and their kids cut themselves, seeing it all. Yeah, that sounds pretty smart to me. Or is that just what they want you to believe?
/damn shame that most of you do.

I got pulled over last summer with an ounce of weed, thousands of dollars in cash, and a pistol under my seat. The stop was unnecessary, and I proved it, when the asshole had to let me go half an hour later. The stash was legit, and all mine. I bought the pot in Colorado, I had a bunch of work cash that I spent, instead of putting it in the bank, and....I own a pistol. It's safest under my car seat, since I live in it right now.

I was sitting there imagining what that piece of shiat cop would do if he could coerce me into having my car searched. I stopped him, despite all the "do I smell marijuana?" and "would you mind if I looked inside your car?" and "where are you going, and why are you going there?" and "I pulled you over because you were swerving."
But that's only because I"m old, cynical, used to corrupt cops, and I know better psychology than they do.

Next time the cops start harassing me,there's apt to be some kind of disturbance, because I"m about to crack. I have PTSD from police, among other things. I see them in my rearview window even when they're not there. I pull over if one gets behind me, or turn off the road. I got pulled over for an burned out headlight and I almost jumped the cop, who luckily was a young woman and didn't mess with me much. Otherwise there might have been a meltdown.
I am the most unobtrusive, unaggressive, person on earth. I don't want to do anything but hang out in the woods and look at bunnies. But I have that feeling now, like I did 20 years ago, and somebody threatened my life, and the police were involved, and nobody did a damn thing to help, that things are breaking too fast, and have gone too far, and that I'm going to hit something. A lot of poor people are in the same boat. The planet isn't the only thing that has a "tipping point."

We ARE the planet. What hurts it, hurts us. Except instead of fixing the problem, we're going to take it out on each other.

and thank god I wont be here much longer to see it all.

FTFA: ""On Friday September 4th, 2020 at 10:30 P.M. our patrol division stopped a vehicle as it left the Motel 6 on Maplegrove Road for a traffic violation. While investigating the violation, K-9 Loki was called to the scene and detected the odor of illegal narcotics coming from the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed the source of the odors detected by K-9 Loki," the Facebook post read..."

Someone needs to whap those cops upside the head with a copy of Rodriguez v. United States.  You cannot extend the detention of someone in a traffic stop to wait for a drug dog.  Fruits of that search should be inadmissible.

I saw this happen the other day: Kid gets pulled over in the parking lot of our store. He's a local, comes in all the time, so we know he's under 18. Driving a crappy car, but he must come from money--this is a rich town, and he has that attitude, along with the wispy blonde that tags along with him.
The police harass him for some time, over what, we don't know, and there's four cop cars in the parking lot, for this one teenager. They coerce him into letting them search his car, and they find his backpack, from which they pull a giant bag of cocaine. Guy I was working with was outside, snooping, (he also has an arrest record) and he said it was a quart bag, full of white powder.

Guy comes in the store later and the other cashier asks him what happened, and he says, basically nothing (parents are probably rich), but he was very lucky. I;m not even sure if he registered it, even though the other cashier was saying, Oh my god, bro--you are so lucky! You are so lucky that you are underage! I just stared at him. I can't even imagine having that kind of privilege. He was back in the mini-mart with his gal-pal, getting some junk food.

While the department shared the news on publicly Facebook, it has been shy about detailing the greater community harm the arrest prevented. But sources say at least one person was prevented from getting high and renting Bill and Ted Face the Music for $19.99 on video-on-demand, one father was forced to spend a night soberly reflecting on the challenges of parenthood, one woman was deprived of clean urine and will likely fail a piss test to get a low-paying job, and a local waiter was made to take a peaceful evening walk instead of getting baked and looking at the wildfire-tinged sunset.

Here in Michigan that would still lead to an arrest for trafficking because of the amount, but it's less likely you'd find the guy doing this at all because there are weed stores now. Just go in and buy it legally. No need to deal with 19-year-old guys on the street corner anymore.

Of course, the cops still raid dispensaries from time to time and catch them doing things they ought not to be doing. But if you're dumb enough to live in a legal marijuana state, open a dispensary, and then deal on the side or sell things that ARE illegal, that's your problem. You had it good and you farked it up, moron.

So four units thought it was ok to hastle this supposedly connected kid, but they let him go after finding a quart bag full of cocaine?  I'm having trouble believing your story.

/ But, as stated above, nobody died. that's an improvement
// Did they check to see if any local banks got robbed?
/// Policing is hard when arresting a young lad for pot... literally

I have no idea why, but all the bags with CRIME EVIDENCE on them are cracking me the fark up.

Like yes, this is obviously EVIDENCE of a heinous CRIME that deserves to be announced in ALL CAPS.
