 80 or not, I'd not challenge him. Even though I'm half his age, he actually knows what he's doing. My dumb ass would just take off in a sprint and collapse not far from there.

That's awesome. I hope I'm anywhere near that fitness level by then. My dad is 73 and he can still run a 26:00 5K.

/beat me last year by 20 minutes....

He's a nice guy. My dad was friends with him when my old man was a competitive runner.
I saw him at a race on Long Island a couple years back.
He also used to win the race up the Empire State Building.
