Without resorting to any sort of in-software comparison this was what I found:

It took longer to annotate the differences than to find them.

Let's all click on the CIA's twitter feed.  That's a good idea.

Also, the entire second image is shifted down.

Meet the next generation CAPTCHA, except both images will be covered in random lines and have different exposures and white balance.

Perhaps they're recruiting for people who go beyond the minimum request. Find 10, that's nice, thank's for playing.

Find more, tell them what country it is, approximate date and time, etc, they might give you a call.

Found 8 without trying. Which is completely bizarre. As a kid I could never get more than one or two of the cartoon strip version of this. Hum?

My mom could probably find twice as many. She's creepy. She come home and notice the slightest thing. She'd know people came over. She'd know I was in her room. And all kinds or crazy stuff. I ended up having to by a Polaroid and take pictures before doing anything so that I can return things back to the state they wore.
I really wish she'd pursued leadership positions. She'd been a monster.

The beetle by the curb near the "Rarking" sign is 10 inches to the right in the bottom picture.

Enhance.

They need to hire a Farker with Photoshop. In the first photo, with whatever they used to turn the red car blue, they also took a chunk out of the woman's shoulder.

They also need to use a better JPEG compression scheme. Those photos have got more artifacting than the Natural History Museum.

See the red-headed woman on the bottom left?

In the top image her name is Helen.

The bottom image is Helen's twin, Marcy.

Do CIA employees have to play spot the difference games a lot?

Took about 30 seconds to find 10.

Do you guys remember that game Photo Hunt which was this same thing?  I used to play an Asian version of that in the '90s all the time.  There was a time limit and if you press on something that isn't different you lose a few seconds from the ticking clock.

I'd imagine it might be useful in detecting forgeries. They've been known to happen, even before the age of Photoshop:

Only if they want Monty Python, Scarface, and Airplane! references or disaster girl, mustard guy, and silly walk Leonardo added to everything.

The idea was to find more than ten. And how much more than ten you could find. It's right there in the original tweet.

2020-09-12 5:19:56 PM
Did no one notice the emblem on the car on the left?

2020-09-12 5:22:58 PM
This is the sort of thing where they ask you to find the differences, but the actual test is that there's a message hidden with steganographic techniques in the image isn't it?

2020-09-12 5:27:08 PM
There were only eleven, including the car emblem. Anyone seeing more is either misinterpreting the artifacts of image manipulation, or hallucinating. Then again... CIA...

It's a different picture.

I found 11, then I did an image difference:

I counted the whole area around the railing as one thing, so I don't know how somebody's getting to 14.

2020-09-12 5:53:10 PM
I saw 11.

2020-09-12 5:57:04 PM
It's two different photos taken about a second apart, creating more differences than intended. That they are two photos is also a difference, akin to touching up photos for propaganda. Anyone with good "trade craft" would have been put on notice right away and approached them both with suspicion. What do I win?

I found 12 on my own, totally missed the graffiti and the tunnel architecture, but the biggest thing that stood out to me was the cropping.  I don't know if they intended it but it took a bit to figure out what was bugging me.

BMW hood badge is there/gone.

2020-09-12 6:09:32 PM
Ah. Nintenfreak beat me to it.

2020-09-12 6:10:07 PM
The exposure on the two photos is slightly different, meaning there's some washed out details in the first that are visible in the second, and vice versa.

Also, the resolution isn't really good enough to tell whether the tunnel graffiti is real or not.  The BMW badge definitely is...missed that.

I got 9 pretty easily, but I'm blind as a bat these days.

2020-09-12 7:35:39 PM
I got 14, not counting the difference at the top because of the cropping.

I don't see what spot the difference puzzles have to do with trying to brainwash people with acid, trafficking cocaine, and trying to assassinate people...but ok.

2020-09-12 8:05:43 PM
It's a carefully constructed ploy. If you are in the US, and spot ALL the differences (since there are more than the 10 they say) they offer you an intelligence agent/analyst position. If you are a foreign national, they hunt you down and kill you.

2020-09-12 8:11:24 PM

Copy/paste to paint, rotate, cross eyes.

Found 11 pretty quickly. 12 if you count the copping differences of the photos.

2020-09-12 9:26:58 PM
I found 64 because I'm super awesome at pixels.

2020-09-12 9:50:55 PM
one has a faint "OBEY" in it, the other has "CONSUME"...

2020-09-12 10:26:36 PM
Looks like taking the second option made me a few hours late to the thread.   Did you know there is an entire genre dedicated to step-moms on those how-to sites?

Anyway, did y'all find the differences or do you need help?

2020-09-12 10:33:00 PM

SBinRR: Anyway, did y'all find the differences or do you need help?

We can't agree on how many differences there are.

2020-09-12 10:34:23 PM
And why the CIA said or implied there are only 10, when clearly there are more. Is it a trap?

2020-09-13 3:51:20 AM
If you really want to identify all differences, set a cat on it.

Ours notices the tiniest changes in a room.

2020-09-13 9:11:25 AM
Spot the difference? Meh.

When the CIA asks us to Spot the Looney, then we should sit up from our respective couches and take notice.

2020-09-13 11:17:25 AM
Ooo this one's my fetish, errr I mean my 'Stupid Human Trick"

I can usually spot a tiny difference (like one character on a page full) in about 2-3 seconds.  For these it's pretty much instant.

Kind of like the old magic eyes pictures, if you cross your eyes a bit with 2 'spot the difference' pictures and focus on the middle one, the differences 'pop' out at you almost 3d.  You're technically using each eye independently, but if you have 3d vision like 99.99% of us do, then your brain is already programmed for it.

(I had to look at the article sideways to do this) lol
