I thought basic literacy was a requirement for that appointment.  Who knew?

2020-09-09 4:33:36 PM
Politics aside I don't think Tom Cotton has anything resembling the background to be in the Supreme Court.

2020-09-09 4:35:08 PM
Good. Who is his target audience here? Seems like its anti-choicers. Are there any of those obnoxious self-righteous gas bags who weren't already going to vote for him?
Seems like this will do more for Democratic voter drives than anything else. So... w/e.

/GOP noms are all interchangeable anyway

Appointing Cruz to SCOTUS will guarantee 8 more vacancies to fill. Even his own colleagues hate him.

Who had the Ted Cruz dog?

Tom Cotton is another crap product cranked out by Harvard...along Maganinny, Grenell...Bannon, Ross, Pompeo, Kushner...

Wait, this is not satire?
Someone check the Onion.

Much as I dislike Ted, he has argued cases before SCOTUS and is more qualified than most of Trump's list. Nobody should want him, and even those in the GOP might vote against him because nobody likes him, but he is at least familiar with the text of the Constitution.

They want to repeal Roe v. Wade.  That's been the plan all along.

All Biden needs to say is "I think Merrick Garland and Barack Obama would make fine SCOTUS justices" and then do the mic drop thing.

2020-09-09 5:36:35 PM
In normal times, I would laugh at the suggestion of Ted Cruz.  No one likes Ted Cruz.  He is the most hated man in the Senate.  He would be the most hated individual on SCOTUS.  His kids can't stand him.  His dog probably pisses on his pillow.

But I can see today's GOP approving him on the bench just because they are a bunch of feckless dicks.

Reposting from another thread: Ted Cruz, Tom Cotton and Josh Hawley need no introduction, but here are some other names --

Daniel Cameron, Kentucky AG: previously best known for anti-abortion advocacy, but now better known as the target of protests for having done nothing about Breonna Taylor.

Kyle Duncan, 5th Circuit Judge: best known as the attorney who brought the Hobby Lobby case before being appointed by Trump to the bench; confirmed by the Senate on a party-line vote.

Steven Engel, Assistant AG: known for participating in the Bush-era torture memos; appointed to current position by Trump and confirmed on a party-line vote; subsequently responsible for the decision not to forward the Ukraine whistleblower's complaint to Congress; now involved in resisting subpoenas for Trump's tax returns.

Sarah Pitlyk, E.D. Missouri Judge: nominated to the bench by Trump and deemed "not qualified" by the ABA; previously worked for an anti-abortion group called the Thomas More Society; approved on a party-line vote.

Allison Jones Rushing, 4th Circuit Judge: worked for an anti-LGBT and anti-abortion group before being nominated to the bench by Trump; confirmed on a party-line vote.

Kate Todd, Deputy Assistant to the President: no judicial experience. Worked for FedSoc.

Lawrence VanDyke, 9th Circuit Judge: nominated to the bench by Trump; deemed not qualified by the ABA, and described as "arrogant, lazy, an ideologue, and lacking in knowledge of the day-to-day practice' of law.... There was a theme that the nominee lacks humility, has an 'entitlement' temperament, does not have an open mind, and does not always have a commitment to being candid and truthful." Particular questions were raised about his possible anti-LGBTQ views.

Every single one of them was born after 1970.

Harvard should be dismantled and forever known as a breeding ground of the group think that has led America down a path of destruction.  From failed business school bs ideology that created massive income inequality to political aparatchiks that facilitated the horrors we see today to the obvious pay to play nepotism the school breeds, to say "i went to Harvard" with a straight face as some sort of incredible curriculum vitae is no longer acceptable.  In fact, many of America's top schools all seem to be a mirage of bs that has done nothing but fluff rich peoples' kids into positions of eventual hereditary power.  To some extent, its starting to resemble the corruption endemic to old Chinese Imperial civil service mandates where schools that trained and taught public servants became corrupted and worthless.

Yeah Tom Cotton is such a war incel he'd fast track a war with Iran and add vigilante justice as an acceptable way to deal with any fellow American he disagrees with.

This is why it's called the March of fascism. It's in increments but it always moves forward.

Until you stop it.

Ah.  But that's the most important part of the story.  Trump has to shore up even this section of his base, now.

Rubbish. RBG will outlive them both.

As part of the settlement reached with the Almighty over the Trump affair, Old Nick has agreed to keep RBG alive for the rest of Trump's reign. The demon responsible for Donald Trump's luck no longer works for Hell, Inc.

If he gets re-elected, naming Cruz, Cotton, and/or Hawley to the Court would help clear out some of the potential opponents for Half-Scoop or Ivanka.  If anyone doubts he would spend his entire potential second term doing nothing but building the framework of a Trump Dynasty, I have nothing else to say.
