Alexei - avoid anybody whose name sounds remotely Russian. Avoid bullets that fell down elevator shafts after being fired. Avoid anything remotely resembling a chemical weapon.

I wish this were a joke. It's not.

Funny how the doctors in only one of the countries where he was treated knew to test for novichok  nerve agents and administer the appropriate treatment (probably IV atropine).

Well, when you try the same trick over and over, you should expect people to wise up. When it comes to nerve agents the medical authorities don't fark around.

More of one set of doctors told what not to test for if they hoped to prevent a series of unfortunate accidents.

Atropine for symptom management and an oxime as antidote to the novichok agent

We were assured that Russia could not possibly have had anything to do with a Russian dissident being poisoned by a Russian nerve agent. The most logical culprit is, of course, China.

Because people jerk off to the idea of WW3. The funny part is that the most capable military in NATO is Turkey, after the United States of course.

Turkey won't fight Russia. Neither will America right now.

So that leaves Germany whose tanks don't work. France, whose tanks only go in reverse? The Báltics? Poland? Hah!

Plus, Navalny isn't covered by Article 5

Notabunny: Whoever was assigned that mission will not be waking up anytime soon

I saw this interview of an FBI counterintelligence agent who theorized Putin doesn't actually want to kill some of his opponents outright but put them on the brink of death so they are in constant fear for their lives. Every thing you eat might kill you... you never know when it's coming so you stop whatever you're doing and live in a state of constant terror. Seemed plausible from an ex KGB

But if he really does want to kill you he definitely will

Maybe. That assumes that Navalny's death was all they wanted.

I suspect the open use of Novichok is the real message here, not necessarily the death of Navalny. Navalny is off the board right now regardless, but the bigger message is that Putin is willing to openly use a weapon that clearly points to him as the conductor.

There are innumerable poisons that Putin could have chosen that would give him at least a fig leaf of deniability. But Novichok!? The Russians are the only ones that have it and he is the only one who would authorize its use. This is a loud declaration of Putin's willingness to continue escalating his wetwork campaign at home and abroad (looking at you Belarus).

Maybe he means Turkey is capable of fighting in the Stans and the Causcasus? Or that Turkey could ruin Russia's vacation in Georgia and Ukraine? While the rest of us would be arguing at the UN, and dithering in Kamchatka and Irkutsk?

Frankly, if I were fighting Russia, I would do it from Australia, and build a hug reserve army in Indonesia. At least that works as long as Iceland can delay Russia from taking Greenland. And Iceland is up to the task, I think.

Money spent is not a military that is prepared to fight:

Russia needs to be kicked out the swift banking system so that they can't easily move money out of Russia.  This will hurt them even more than any escalation.
