"Mnuchin said "quite the contrary" and defended Trump as someone who supports the military "in an unbelievable way."

You're right, it's unbelievable.

That's Fire culture, not Cancel culture. Sheeesh, if you had ever watched the top rated, very goodly "The Apprentice" tv show, you would know that, Brett.

Hey no, with how consistent Trump is he must have a moral compass. He just chose to alys go against it.

There's a huge overlap between people who whine about "cancel culture" and people who cheered as Colin Kaepernick was demonized for protesting against police brutality.

Baier asked Mnuchin, "The president also says he is against cancel culture. But do you think it's right for him to call for the firing of a reporter who has unnamed sources who confirm parts of that story?"

Mnuchin just said, "I really don't know anything about that, so it's just not something I can comment on."

Shiat weaselry from the weaseliest shiat out there - knows enough to know that The Atlantic's story is bullshiat, but not enough to describe how the President calling for a journalist's cancellation jives with the Administration's anti-cancel-culture stance.

Meh, it's not contradictory at all.  "Cancel culture", in this context, is whatever is critical of Trump or right-wingers in general.

Trump has nothing particular against the military.  He thinks we are all suckers and losers including his most ardent supporters. That's the mind of a con man.  We are all just potential marks to be taken.

That should never be an acceptable answer from a Cabinet-level official.  That's worse than farkers who say, "Well, I didn't read the article, but--"

"I'm too busy to deal with that"

The whole idea of cancel culture in general is typical conservative nonsense.  If society finds your views or actions so repugnant they want to destroy your livelihood, maybe the problem is you, and not society.

Gee, why is it that nice, decent people like Roseanne Barr can't get a break in this country?

I'm telling fark for the 2nd time. Something changed last week. Between Zuckerberg and FNC, they're no longer tonguing trump's asshole.

Add in The Atlantic story (which most of us here anyway knew of trump's disdain for the military) and whatever that change was, the knives are out and stabbing so forcefully now, his back will have more holes than a large sieve.

Someone behind the scenes, pulling strings, has had enough. Add in one more item, that no Republican congressperson or senator has defended trump voraciously regarding his military comments.

It seems to me there is now a large coalition that has decided they've got to unload trump in January if they want to have any chance at saving the party. The base will turn on trump when he loses, because trump himself had told them losers don't deserve anything but shame, and their attention spans, along with being the easiest people on the planet to manipulate, that come 2022 they'll be right there voting R again.

It's almost as if cancel culture isn't real, and "being canceled" is just the politically correct term for a raging asshole who everybody is telling to just shut up already, and Donald Trump's fairweather stance on canceling others is because he's precisely the kind of self-centered asshole that everybody is telling to shut up.

Almost.

And here I thought "cancel culture" was the invisible hand of the market punching assholes in the face.

You know how the Republicans say we don't need regulation because if people do shiatty stuff the public will push back against them? Well they are doing shiatty stuff and the public is pushing back against them.

Yeah, the invisible hand isn't real either, but it's goddamn hilarious when they're like "free markers, bro!" And then you decide not to eat at Chik-fil-a and they're like "no, not like that!"

Some Republicans breathed a sigh of relief when Goldwater lost, because they figured the crazies had their chance and blew it, so the calm, responsible moderates could take control again.

"There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

There is another theory which states that this has already happened."

Because people that whine about cancel culture tend to be nothing more than the "why can rappers say the n-word in public but I can't?" crowd.

They don't think any further than that.

Mnuchin was a high level studio exec at Warner Brothers. Think Harvey Weinstein without the ability to identify a decent script.

FFS, even his "wife" is a casting couch casualty.
