As a vet, this shiat bugs me. Not Trump. We've known what a vile coward he is from the beginning.

No, I write of my fellow vets who keep ignoring this, pretending it's fake news, or spun to make Trump look bad. And that draft dodging stuff? "All legal, he didn't break the law, and he's a smart man."

The man has no idea what it is to serve. Not as president, not as a soldier, not as a Christian. I wish my vet friends would stop pretending otherwise.

Trump is closing Stars and Stripes at the end of this month. So future insults from Trump will have to be relayed to the troops via word of mouth.

/Or Al Jazeera/Pravda. Whatever the troops can smuggle in.

Again, Trump doesn't have to lead the military.  He only has to order them.  The UCMJ says nothing at all about the Commander In Chief being liked, or even respected - but he certainly must be obeyed.  Yeah, you can disobey an unlawful order.  But you better be damn sure you can prove it was unlawful for the President of the United States to make that order, and who do you think has better lawyers - the entire DOJ and DOD, or your average military guy?

The military will not break with the Republicans in November. Or ever.

Fortunately, Trump can't tell them how to vote.

And it isn't looking good for Cheetolini.

In the polls.  I don't think for a moment that the military will break with the Republicans, no matter what they say to a pollster.

Like millions of others, they love the smell and taste of shiat.

Obviously.

The silence from generals is deafening.

it's one of two things

trump didn't say it, they're letting it build a head of steam and then peeing on it later.

trump definitely said it, and they're drafting proper responses that are full of proper legalese to not get drummed out.

You basing this on your service? Or just pulling it out your ass?

Because I've seen this sentiment echoed here a lot, and it tends to be from people who've never laced up boots. But they know it. They damn sure know it. And it doesn't matter what sort of facts you respond with- once somebody's made up their mind, their feelings are going to outweigh everything else.

Now, are there Trumpers who'll never turn from him? Yep. You can find them at Wal-Mart, too.

But it's just amazing how facts simply won't penetrate the thoughts of people who've made up their mind on what the rank and file are going to do.

The only thing that surprises me in all of this is how long it took everyone to notice this.
He's been disrespecting the military since the early days of his campaign (this is, when you discount the initial deferments he got during Vietnam).

That he's trying to argue that he hasn't is laughable. Even IF he never called them "losers," there's still plenty of on-the-record disparaging remarks he's made for years.

Don't even get me started on Bounty-gate.

I know I should be used to it by now but I'm still astonished at what a massive piece of shiat this "person" is.

I have never seen someone so gotdamned broken in every conceivable way.

Everything my Vietnam-era elders told me about 1968 was summed up in one line - I don't care which party is in charge, I'll vote for whoever is going to win this or just end this.  Since then, as it's a fairly conservative (in a traditional meaning) set of organizations, the people in uniform have not broken far from the republicans. However, that's because of a shared value, not because of ideology.  I know that Biden's values are much closer to mine than the other guy's.  For all the feces flung at him, he's still coming across as the political moderate he is and has been.  I'd have happily voted for him in 1988 had he gotten the nomination, and any time since then, and put the sign in the yard and the sticker on the ride.  Not all of us who served, whether one term or a career, march in lockstep with the republicans no matter what.  It's a complex set of cultures, one the current CIC couldn't hope to grasp, because it is about service.
And that said, I hope the president's family is able to get him some help very soon, even if it's only to keep him from hurting himself any further.  Nothing he does seems to benefit even him anymore.

Most? Probably not. When it gets closer to the election, they will definitely shiat towards the GOP.

But even a small shift is a big deal. There are 20 million veterans in the US with significantly higher turnout than non-veterans and about twice as many voted for Trump as voted for Clinton.

If a half million veteran voters shifting from Trump to Hillary and another million being motivated enough to go out and vote instead of staying home it would be a huge freaking deal even though Trump would still have a dominant lead in military votes.

When you were in uniform you could look left and always find an idiot. I have to remind myself of this whenever I see another veteran flying trump merchandise.

/ In happier news I have more ammo whenever I meet one of them. Namely that I am different than them
// For when I am called a sucker and a loser, I'll give the offender both barrels. whereas a veteran for trump will kneel down and ask for more.

My experience - unfortunately, my orthopedic anomalies and vision kept me from active service.  But I have this one special skill - I can read, and I can even read statistics.  I can also read things like articles and studies on "Shy Tory" syndrome and many other things that lead me to believe that the military will follow their tradition, because that's what they do.

I don't think they're going to magically change course.  I'd like to think I'm wrong and you're right.  We'll see when the votes are counted.

For many of his supporters, Trumpianity is a cult so no matter how much he insults or degrades them, they'll be fanatically loyal. It's actually part of cult indoctrination, the cult leader denigrating the followers, shredding their sense of self and self-worth so they give the cult leader total control.

The military are nothing to Trump except as props for his strongman routine that he peddles to his insecure white-fright base.

None.

At least for the ones taking their cues from Trump. He said (publicly) that he loves them, and he said that the media lies, so whatever you think he said, despite any video evidence to the contrary, doesn't mean what anybody else thinks. Just Trump.  Only Trump.

My dumbfark brother was a US Marine. He's bedecked his house in models of the plane he fled and he has his medals and other miltaria framed and hung on the wall. He wants his visitors to know what a Great American Hero™ he is.

He's also a total Trumpanzee. Giant Trump sign hanging off his house, the whole deal.

What a sucker.

Step Brother, Army, multiple tours in Iraq and Afghan. Everything Obama did was wrong, Facebooked every lie. Trump, well he mostly post anti-liberal stuff and not pro-Trump anymore, but I know how he is going to vote.

He would say it is about principles and values but thats bullshiat because it isnt about "principles" or "values" it is about not liking certain people and certain kinds of people.

Trump doesn't really have to worry about the military's opinions and votes swinging to Biden.  I mean, they WILL swing to Biten... but unfortunately all those suckers vote by mail.

Well, neither of us will ever have proof of any future event, now will we?

My analysis is based on historic data and observable trends in poll response vs voting outcomes.  What's yours based on, out of curiosity, other than "I served so I know that it'll be different this time for sure"?
