Yeah, know him because he's the son of the local news guy when I was a kid. He's sort of bland and nondescript. Except for maybe Hard Candy.

I hated Watchmen, including his goofy character.  Good job on the Queen cover though.

He's the guy I always confused for Will Arnett.

He's on pace to join Kurtwood Smith, Yaphet Kotto, Lance Henricksen, Justin Theroux, and Daniel Von Bargen in cinema's "That Guy" Hall of Fame.

Red Forman would put a foot in your ass for suggesting Kurtwood Smith is a "that guy".

I like Patrick Wilson a lot.  He'll do all sorts of roles from douche-bags to heroes and he does them well.

CSB: He's a frequent guest of a local film festival I work.  Nice dude.  Looks like he'd be a douche but very friendly, loves to chat.

Yaphet Kotto? The Big Bad in Live and Let Die?

The Reverend Sam Hill: Yaphet Kotto? The Big Bad in Live and Let Die?

Yeah, he was in Alien, Midnight Run, I'm sure he played a police captain at some point.

Kurtwood had 20 years of cinematic That Guy roles before Red Forman. Seemed he spent most of the 90s as the mid-level military authority figure in various action movies.

Likewise, Samuel L. Jackson was almost inducted as a That Guy before Tarantino gave him a call.

If you look at his IMDb listings, he's built an extremely solid career playing very necessary but ultimately unmemorable characters.  All he needs is that one big break of playing a completely off-the-wall psycho, or a mentally challenged handyman who cures cancer, or something like that, and he'll be the next big ten year overnight sensation.

I know him as Night Owl from Watchment, and as King Orm from Aquaman.  It's rather impressive that he's kept up that hardbody for so long.

He got pretty close when he played one of the villains in the cinematic version of The A-Team, more of a heartless dilettante but still lethal.

I thought he was great as Niteowl but JEH absolutely nailed Rorschach. Should've received at least an Oscar nomination, IMHO.

Seconded.  He was the only character in that movie that I forgot was acting.  The line about "You're locked in here with me!" at the prison was classic.

William Fichtner. Once you see him, he's no longer "that guy" because he's been in farking everything.

Dude was married to Jennifer Connelly and had an affair with Kate Winslet in Little Children. I'd say he's doing OK.

That was a great movie.

He was pretty crazy in Hard Candy but Ellen Page was the standout in that film. Also, no one really saw it.

I'd have said that was Dean Norris, but a) they were both in Starship Troopers, and 2) Dean Norris hasn't been "that guy" since we learned what Schraderbrau was.

// and Yaphet Kotto was also in Nightmare on Elm St 6 (Freddy's Dead), you heathens
// Wilson was the shiat in A-Team - that movie is brilliantly silly (the tank scene is particularly inspired, and probably 90% of the prep Brad Cooper needed to play Rocket)

My friend rewound the scene of him getting his ass slapped in Little Children so many times that by the time we resumed the movie we had forgotten what was going on.

Met him at a car show and he ended up giving me his Cell #.  a few years later I took my son to see Insidious.  We argued over the ending and just for fun I told my son, "I am calling Patrick and we'll get this settled."  So I called and Patrick as nice as ever answered the question.  My son has never been as impressed with me as that moment.

Spent decades being a "that guy" before Mike Ermentraut came along.

He was all over the place. Nine hundred feet, up to thirteen hundred feet.

What an asshole!

Hung out several times in high school.  He went to a private school that, at least at the time, had an insane amount of douchebros (or at least it seemed that way to a working class public school kid).  At the handful of parties where the public/private kids would mix, he was always trying to bridge the gap and peacekeep.  Which is funny in the context of the headline, because quite a few friends of mine remembered him as the nice guy who went to Shorecrest.  So he was memorable for that at least.

And six years as a police lieutenant on "Homicide: Life on the Street".

Yeah, he probably got killed by every action star in the 1980s.

He married Karolina from Succession. I'd say he's doing alright.

He was on TV in "The Gifted Man" for a while, which had an interesting premise: he's a neurosurgeon who can see his dead wife.  He's also done Broadway shows (The Full Monty) and has a great singing voice.

He's also insanely hot.

In his other pictures, he looks like the lovechild of Bob Odenkirk and Christian Slater.

He's quite the renaissance man.
