Boseman's death is hitting me much harder than I can explain.  Maybe it's because I'm only 2 years older than him.  Maybe it's because I respect his work.  Maybe it's because I respect his thoughts (see Ryan Coogler's eulogy about how much of what made BP great were Boseman's ideas).  Maybe it's because 2020 sucks so bad already.  Maybe because as a brown guy, I am becoming weary of today's racial intolerance and the death of the man who brought us Wakanda feels like an extinguishment of hope.

I think that's what it is.  The world sucks right now but Wakanda gave us hope and idealism and now T'Challa was stricken dead at 43 by a motherfarker of an unlucky year.  Not by Thanos or Killmonger or a horde of alien dogs.  But farking colon cancer.  Ugh.

He had all tools necessary to be a Hollywood legend. He could act, write, direct, and he took interest in bringing up new talent. He should have been collecting lifetime achievement awards when he was 70.

I think M'Baku would make a better ruler of Wakanda than Shuri. Shuri is a scientist and inventor who was never trained - nor does she have the temperament or maturity - to be a ruler. M'Baku however, is already a ruler with years of experience - including the five years between Snaps - and he became a member of the Tribal Council after the whole Killmonger incident.

I personally believe that the oft-repeated love of Killmonger's stance and its subsequent use as justification are the product of missing the biggest message of the film.  Violence drives violence in an endless cycle which is only stopped by mercy and forgiveness.

It's not until T'Challa accepts the higher road that he begins to succeed against Killmonger.

I guess I'll be "that guy", but I never heard of him before he died. I did hear of the movie, but I don't watch comic book movies, so I had no idea who he was or anything about the movie.

That being said, household name is usually reserved for scum that you can't escape that everyone tends to know about: The Kardashians, Donald Trump (pre-presidency), the guy from the Flex Seal commercials etc.

All I see here or elsewhere is nothing but reverence for this guy. Household name, in that regard, seems to be like calling Bobby Orr "some hockey player".

I still want it to be Killmonger. They could always pull some sort of "he healed by being buried with the heart flower stuff in him."

I think there's a good storyline in his moral rehabilitation. I wouldn't originally have wanted it to be Black Panther 2, but I'd have wanted to see it eventually, regardless.

Black Panther was overly optimistic, as superhero movies usually are. In reality, the Nazis weren't defeated by love amd understanding, and the modern Nazis are no different.

Pretty sure Killmonger wasn't defeated by love and understanding so much as a knife in the heart.

"But, but, guys... ALL movies matter!"

Yes, that's how stupid you sound. BP was monumental for being a blockbuster MCU film that was written, directed, and overwhelmingly cast with a black/POC majority, and brought incredible representations for their community.

I wonder what Alan Tudyk had to say. The scene between he and Bozeman in 42 was difficult to watch.
