Wenchmaster: IIRC, the same sort of thing happened to the Italian mafia in Philadelphia. The FBI were delighted, and the end result was the Philly mob being run by the last mob boss standing- who was the mafia version of Homer Simpson (well-meaning but thoroughly incompetent).

Yes, we all saw Miller's Crossing.

Acidicnads: That was a good read. I always thought that the yakuza were more comic book characters than real. The interaction with the police and Japanese society as a whole is fascinating.

I am working on a book set in space, in an alternate history where people studied magic in the 19th century instead of thermodynamics. One of the factions is the "circle triad", basically a crime syndicate with a space program.

The other two factions are a Soviet/Nazi mashup: the Kraznovians, and a late to the space but better funded and organized but hamstrung by internationalism: The ISTO (International Space Treat Organization.)

You bet I was taking notes on cool shiat I need to steal for the Circle Triad. I hadn't even considered that they could be the ones who run this world's equivalent of Hollywood. And Las Vegas. Pirates in seersucker suits.

What exactly is a "pump action handgun"? That is a term I have never heard before...
