Almost over.

You know how basketball players will sometimes jump up to make a slam dunk and they seem to hang in the air for a moment before crashing down?

That's what august felt like. He'll, that's what the last few months felt like. Like we're just waiting for gravity to slam us into the firmament.

Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, isn't it a pity
Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the cityAll around, people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head

You know that feeling when you leave a spoon in your coffee cup, and poke yourself in the eye when you try to drink the coffee?  Then you forget the spoon is in there an do it again... every single time you try to drink your coffee for the entire month?

In the past, somewhere between July and September.

I once rode a roller coaster called Fujiyama. At one time 15 or so years ago, it had the record as the tallest coaster in the world. Not only is it crazy tall, but it's long. The average coaster is like 90 seconds. Fujiyama clocks in at like 3 and a half minutes. So, you get on. Climb the first hill and boom, drop hundreds of feet. You scream. It turns and twists and drops. You scream and raise your arms. It rises and falls. You scream. It turns and drops you like a brick. You scream and pump your fists. Somewhere around the 2nd minute, you're just too tired to scream. You're still nearly petrified with every turn and drop, but you just don't have the strength or energy to scream. Your arms lay limply in your lap. You resign yourself to fate, and realize you're insignificant against the forces at play, on a track with no control over your speed nor direction. You're still screaming on the inside, you just lack the fortitude vocalize it.

August 2020 is like the beginning of the 3rd minute on Fujiyama. I don't know if I'll make it to the end of the ride without throwing up.  Hopefully I won't end up like my friend Kumiko, who fell to the floor and cried for 5 minutes straight immediately after disembarking.

/Seriously, 5 full minutes of uncontrollable sobbing
//The staff just looked at us like "Yeah, that happens sometimes"
///Hoping 2021 is more like DoDonPa

Stymied.
Phone interview 2 Fridays ago.
Promise of interview 2 stalled.
They need two bodies, and I have one, so ... c'MON!

I no longer measure time by months. The transition from Air Conditioner to Lightning Fire came in like a lamb this year.

I am surprised on how much dirt I had to move so I can build a 8x12 shed.

August felt like hitting the reality wall of "no good options, just degrees of bad" as a parent.

I'm extremely lucky in that my wife is a stay at home parent, and I can be a stay at home worker.  We keep chanting our mantra whenever a new thing from the school system comes in with a new change of plan:

"Everyone who can stay home should stay home.  We can stay home, we should stay home, we will stay home"

I really, really, feel for all the parents out there who aren't in my position.  Ours is stressful enough, I can't imagine it for two working parents who can't be remote, or any of the other permutations.

Random Anonymous Blackmail: I am surprised on how much dirt I had to move so I can build a 8x12 shed.

I built a 16x16 chicken run this month.  By my math I moved just shy of three yards of soil digging out around it to bury chicken wire to deter digging predators.  Three dimensional multiplication is a cruel mistress.

I think Wile E Coyote would work better here. Hanging in the air, realizing he's about to fall, and then plummeting to his doom. The giant boulder/anvil will land on us in September.

When it started, I was 44. By the time it was over I was 45. It felt like it was a year long.

Couldn't put it off and had to go visit mom and stepdad.  It punched a hole and let the air out of my summer as predicted.

Confusing. Depressing. Dystopian. More and more I feel like I've gone back in time to witness the rise of Hitler among the expanse of hysterical followers. I get a sense now of what it might have been like. Suddenly the grainy B&W footage has become high-def VR.
