misanthropicsob: I trust Joe Biden to surround himself with the worst people at all times.

Joe's planning on keeping on Trump's entire staff and every single one of his political appointees after the tangerine menace leaves the White House?

Wow, both sides really are exactly the same!

There is no such thing as an "Independent" voter. Theses are the people with political apathy, and no idea what's going on, they feel that nothing matters and nothing will change. Voting is a Right and should be a paid day off, or a full weekend to get more people to vote, mandatory voting would diminish that Right unless a Civics test were administered.

Dear Republicans,

Your "silent majority" myth is such a dead horse that the bones are turning to powder.  Come up with a new delusion, at least.

Jeez. I think the Q in QAnon stands for Queer. The Anon part means that they don't want to be publicly identified. QAnon is not a group fighting for Queer rights or liberation - they enjoy being privately degraded and humiliated for their sexual deviances but then ultimately surrendered to. They want a bigoted world where the wowsers turn to them for clandestine gratifications.

This theory is simpler and makes more sense than the infinite smokescreen conspiracy theories QAnon spins to hide their true inclinations and purposes.

Only a small fraction of Queers are QAnoners  but the core of QAnon is full of masochistic Queer whores.

/// will this rant trigger any Fark filters?

The last time I had a discussion with some of my Trumphumper cousins about politics one of them threatened to kill me because how dare I question their god emperor. I think they are still waiting for Trump to reopen the 3 shuttered factories in their town still. But I am sure it is Pelosi and Clinton holding that up. I am not one much for talking about my politics in family, work or social situations because I know it could be like rolling a grenade  at a gas can.

But this reminds me of a fark story from a few weeks ago when some suburban couple couldn't understand why their friends and neighbors were basically shunning them for their support of Trump, they seemed baffled by it.

Dude, what you consider "being an asshole" is actually normal criticism of the candidate. For instance, my stating that "Nancy Pelosi funded Trump's concentration camps without congressional oversight" in a thread about Trump's concentration camps is not "being an asshole," but pointing out that Democrats had a chance to stop Trump but dropped the ball.

Or, in tonight's episode, Biden made a statement condemning violence "of every kind by anyone, whether on the left or right." I pointed out the BSAB nature of this statement, a tone that echoed the "I'm sure there were fine people on both sides" Trumpism after Charlottesville, and noted that Biden went after Trump for the rest of the statement instead of addressing the root causes of the unrest and failing to bring the white suburbanite onto the side of the protests. And I contrasted that with LBJ addressing violence during the civil rights movement, where he briefly condemned the violence then used the protests to attack the root causes - historic civil injustice and promises unkept. LBJ sounded more presidential (and, frankly, less racist) than Biden and that was 60 years ago. That's not "being an asshole." That's pointing out how far we've regressed in the past 30 years.

What you consider "being an asshole" is actually just "not being a neoliberal Democrat who blindly follows the party wherever it may go."

The way that TFA is slanted, I don't think those "shy voters" exist.  "Underreported" poll numbers for Trump, my ass.

"Wow...these polls certainly are hella blue...Friggin' landslide."

"Trump isn't gonna like that.  Can't just toss those poll numbers out though, so...ummm....divide the blue down to narrow the margin between Tump's numbers and theirs and we'll just mark the trimmed down as 'shy voters, who didn't want to say' but that might be voting for Trump, as far as he knows.  Maybe that sort of ass-kissing will keep us in press conferences a bit longer."

"But isn't that unethical?"

"Dude, this is 2020.  Not even the friggin' Cub Scouts are ethical any more.  Tell your conscience to STFU and start re-working those numbers, dammit."

I'm an independent b/c Dems aren't liberal enough for me but a vote outside the two party system right now is a fart in the wind vs human injustice.

"The ship hit an iceberg and is sinking! Man the lifeboats!"
"That lifeboat is old and might sink. I'll just take my chances with drowning."

From the point of view of big cities, a vote within the two-party system is just a fart in the wind vs systemic injustice.

For example: Kenosha is run by a Democratic mayor. The police chief is hired by the mayor. Just today, the police stopped a church truck filled with supplies for the BLM protesters and arrested the church members.

Portland's Democratic mayor and Police Commissioner is currently doing a BSAB dance and trying to use the shooting that happened near (But not at) the protest as an excuse to crack more skulls.

Seattle's Democratic Mayor, who was one of Obama's hires, tear gassed the city for a week straight.

Biden doesn't have any feasible plan to address the root causes of the injustice. Trump doesn't either. He amplifies everything to the worst degree. But, Biden won't actually solve the problems (and, if his legislative history is any indication, he will make things worse).

Maybe because the "BLM" rioters are burning shiat and they don't need bussed in people and supplies to keep the fire going, literally and figuratively.

You could TRY voting for someone you have actual respect for, as though you cared about America. Or, if you can't wrestle up the courage to do that, feel free to just not vote for the person who has undone decades of progress with his ineptitude and evil he surrounds himself with.

Destroying America will not bring the Rapture. God does not exist, and if he did, he's never cared about America.

These aren't people that fear reprisal at all.

They want to keep their real feelings about their friends and neighbors (at least, those who don't think like they do) hidden until they're able to actually do something to those soon to be ex friends and neighbors. I don't expect Biden to do anything about racial injustice. What I do expect him to do is a) at least pay lip-service to global warming, and b) protect a woman's right to abortion. And given the next president will be Trump or Biden, that means I'm voting for Biden.

Your vote is not something you present at the rose ceremony on The Bachelor - US Government. It is an act - your chance to do something that influences how the government is run, and thus how your life is going to be. You need to determine what course of action will produce the best outcome, and follow it.

It is not an opinion poll or a popularity contest. Voting is an action, and you should act accordingly.

It is completely a popularity contest, it always has been.

The religion the vast majority of them follow still includes the overwhelming majority of Americans. White people are obviously the majority. They can binge "news" 24/7 from countless outlets without ever being exposed to "mainstream media" because they have a vast network of right wing propaganda outlets, including the most watched cable news network, catering to what they want to hear.

Yet they still think they're a persecuted minority.

Sure... or you might work for any level of government in a country where elected officials routinely "clean house" of anyone they perceive as aligned with the other party.  Like, say, the US.

My father was a municipal employee for about thirty years, and worked for four different towns in that time.  Tax-related stuff, nothing partisan.  He and mom were frequently first in line at the polls on election day, but he never spoke publicly about politics or voting, never did anything that'd put him in the public record as supporting a candidate, and never let anyone from any party put a campaign sign in his yard... because if he did, some future mayor would have had an excuse to axe him.  In the third town he worked for, even that level of caution didn't save him - there was an election and the new mayor thought (quite possibly correctly) that the old mayor had been crooked, so everyone who had been hired by the old mayor got the axe.

My wife is now a municipal employee, and my employers do some stuff for the government, so we're almost as cautious.

You're "not a Dem" but you'll "happily vote Dem up and down the ticket."

Truly independent thinking there.

Nice way to change the subject goofus.  Now why don't you answer the question: I'm not a Dem. I've always pointed out that I'm an independent, on Fark, for years.  I'm giving you crap right now because you're acting like a disingenuous slob. What's your excuse?

If I had a nickel for every time a Fark Democrat said "The Democratic Party is too conservative for me, but Vote Blue No Matter Who." And then repeated the VBNMW mantra for years.

"everyone's a cryptic dem wharrgarble" is a position, I guess. But you're still dodging. :)

How am I disingenuous? The only way you think I'm disingenuous is if you think I would ever support the Democratic Party unconditionally.

You support Democrats unconditionally but claim to be an independent. At least you've supported them unconditionally since at least 2016.

I tentatively support some Democrats as long as they support a sizable portion of my ideology and trumpet that I am not a Democrat.

misanthropicsob: DO NOT WANT Poster Girl: misanthropicsob: DO NOT WANT Poster Girl: misanthropicsob: DO NOT WANT Poster Girl: misanthropicsob: misanthropicsob: I mean, I'm currently being harassed by a group of Fark "Democrats" for daring to say that I'm voting for the Green Party.

Certain sects of the Democrats are extremely intent on suppressing opposing opinions (especially if it makes them look Conservative).

Wow, you're actually getting "it".

"At least you've supported them unconditionally since at least 2016."

No shiat Sherlock -- wonder what the special conditions are for me supporting Democrats vs Republicans since 2016? Hmmmm. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

I dunno. Those are the only years I've known you. So, since I've known you, you've only supported Democrats.

Maybe you want forgiveness for supporting the Iraq War? I really don't know. I'm not your shrink.
