I'll be honest, that moment on SNL broke me pretty hard.  Trump winning and Cohen's death felt like the crappy end to a really rough year. I cried.  Don't know how I'm holding it together in 2020.

Meh. I'm at the point that between the politics and racial strife in this country, the covid, and my far less than optimal marriage, IDGAF anymore. Seriously.

If I could go to sleep now, not dream and not wake up, I'd seriously consider it.

He has a whole host of parasites that do though...Just because they're evil doesn't mean they're stupid.  Even Bond villains HAD to have had a few competent people...

As someone who is now in the hospital after a failed attempt the other week, it's not that simple, and it's not worth it. Try your best to stay strong, and remember that when all may seem isolated, there are still plenty of people who care for you. They don't know you need them unless you let them know, but they do care. A lot.

Agreed. I have lots of friends and family suffering from Trump D***sucking Syndrome and it's so tough to watch them deteriorate. They seem to believe everything that comes out of his mouth, and as such they're willing to accept whatever he gives them into theirs.

Not going to do anything rash. I've played that forward and know it's a dark path for everyone. I just think about it a lot more than I used to.

I've not yet renounced the entirety of my Catholic ideology, in that I believe in seeing marriages and pregnancies through no matter how difficult (I don't however think I have the right to tell others not to divorce, or abort their unwanted pregnancies, for the record). The funny part is my wife is not Catholic, not even Christian, but the Chinese also believe in suffering the duration of a union. Weird. So onward, ho.

darch: you've somewhat disregarded me here on Fark (and by email)

Nothing personal - my fark profile email is a burner that I never check, and by the time I see emails they are too old to respond to. I know you're in 'boken and when covid is over we can probably jam. I have lots of ideas (probably mostly derivative crap where I don't even realize I'm ripping off riffs I heard before but can't remember), but can't program a drum track for shiat and hate the way they sound. I should at least start committing them to mp3 so I have a library of them.

Right there with ya, bro.

Alcoholic relapse after Trump winning election resulting in DUI, totaled car, lost my job, dog, apartment, blah blah blah.  10 months sober, doing the right thing, and rebuilding and still feel like I don't care.  Not a day goes by that it doesn't cross my mind so much it scares me.

In some cases, I agree. People go too far.

But mostly, that's just gaslighting to deny that the last three years hasn't been an absolute clusterfark in the exec branch, made more ironic that your boy pissed, shiat and puked in the very swamp he claimed he was going to drain. But anyone who's watched Trump for any length of time knew exactly that was going to happen. Maybe the heyseeds in flyover country didn't...and that's why PT Barnum made lots of money.

Want to know another mental disorder? Denial.

Try to look at it this way- Cohen had a long and productive life. Jeff Buckley, who many consider to have done an outstanding cover of Hallelujah tragically died very young. What I'm saying is that Cohen's death wasn't tragic given all the years he had. I was still sad, but ya know, people eventually pass away.

Here is a tweet from 2016 having a go at Graydon Carter because Spy magazine called him a short-fingered vulgarian in 1988.

I feel for both of you. I just typed out the other day that things got really bad for me in 2018 where I did attempt suicide that year. I went through inpatient and then outpatient partial hospitalization twice.
If it really does pass and things do get better I'd like to be able to share stories with you about that soon.

So - wasn't directed at me, but thanks - I've been missing live playing a ton, and some friends of mine that I played with at a Church have been doing recordings (5 of them live at a farm near town).  We're working on getting them going multi-track and once that's up, I'll start adding takes on their track (or the other way around as needed).  They don't have a drummer, and and I'm everything but (voice, keys, guitar, bass) so something I can do some basic beats and loops with is on my "need' list at this point.

There is no cover as good as Cohen's original, in part because the covers insist on cutting the best verses.

Trump can have the freakishly religious versions; I'll keep the exploration of various facets of devotion and longing.
