(Fark)   "Let be be finale of seem; the only emperor is the emperor of ice-cream." --Wallace Stevens. Huh, I could go for some fudge ripple right now. This is your Fark Writer's Thread, elliptical edition   (fark.com) divider line

Wallace Stevens' most famous poem 'The Emperor of Ice-Cream' is said to 'resist the intelligence' which makes it tantalizingly close to making sense on the surface but instead connects on a level just below understanding.  I'll be honest, I know next to nothing about poetry, other than that any poems I write also manage to resist interpretation, albeit because they're mostly just awful.

We are still working away on this year's fiction anthology, and are almost done scoring!  Once we're finished there, we'll make the table of contents and start letting people know who's been accepted.

Stay tuned!

toraque, has a name for this year's compendium been selected yet?

I've already cleared a spot on my bookshelf for it- right next to the others. You folks are good writers.

Huh, had never read any Wallace Stevens before.  Don't know what Edward the VIIIth saw in her...

Working on some fanfic right now. I know, I know, fanfic is for tweens.

I was playing a game. A cut scene didn't go the way I thought it should. I'm fixing it. Got a problem with that?

This will never be published, of course, but it will make me feel better. It's a romance, featuring two characters who have a deliberately ambiguous relationship.

Stay safe, Farkers.

I was eating a lot of ice cream earlier this year, after I finally got my own place after getting stuck in a homeless shelter for a couple months at the beginning of the Shutdown.

One day I was shopping for food after work, passed the Ben & Jerry's... then decided to get a quart of the generic brand, for slightly less. I was working 10 hour shifts, and it was getting hot, and soon I was getting two quarts at a time and eating a quart of ice cream a day. Part of it was the new freedom of food, since they fed us elsewhere at the shelter, plates were of limited size - but greatly appreciated every time. We were also limited to bringing in one bag, which limited food storage.

Maybe a month ago I decided the party was over, quit buying ice cream by the quarts, and because I'm working outside, I've sweat myself back to my original weight.

But I really enjoyed that luxury, once again, of being able to have a spoonful of ice cream any time I wanted. Staying in that homeless shelter, right after moving to a new town where I know nobody, has really rekindled my sense of gratitude and fine-tuned my sense of purpose. I sure got a lot of writing done during the Shutdown!
