Don't just be for voter ID, be for one voting location in each country, with a single line per 10k people, where each line must be monitored by a representative from each party with 1% or more registration, the only people allowed to vote absentee are soldiers deployed overseas, and everyone else much show up in person at the polls, which are only open from 0800-2000.

Demand the Rethuglicans stop stealing your tax money to redistribute wealth to those lazy rural no-goodnik soshulists, with refrigerators, using that money to eat big government steaks and lobsters, while driving around in luxury cars. They can't afford to bus their own kids to school they can raise their own taxes, have a bake sale, or maybe merge school districts.

Take a Rethuglican Party talking point, crank it to 11. Say if they don't support the changes they want (in these two examples) elections stolen and soshulizms. I go to the diner (outside seating for now) near home and most of what's left of the Trumpublicans scatter when the car pulls in because they know I'll highlight all that ebil big gubbermint money they're suckling from the big gubbermint teat.

Embrace, and extend, their idea to turn it against them in ways they weren't expecting to happen. The soshulizms argument is great. Honestly though, hammer on the voting one for now. They backpedal on all that shiat fast when they figure out they're going to be in line, probably for hours, plus adding 15-30 minutes each way just to get to/from the polling station. When they balk, start calling them durty soshulists.

I did not agree with Bush supporters (either) and we occasionally had words but it didn't end any friendships.

And as an old dude I know all kinds of reagan worshippers and we co-existed just fine. They seem to have vanished at this point but there used to be legions of them.

Trump is different - if you openly support him at this point we're just done. There's no common ground what with you openly signaling you have no human decency and all.

I gave it back to him with both barrels saying that I found that insulting that the implication was that I was too stupid to form my own thoughts or ideas. Also adding, "and by the way, what are your farking unimpeachable sources of information". Since the answer to that question would have been Fox News and Rush Limbaugh, he changed the subject and we've never discussed politics since.

However, I do know from my brother-in-law, whose mother is Facebook friends with my brother's wife, that my brother got a Donald Trump birthday cake for his 50th.

He would have given me no end of shiat if I were ever to have gotten a Obama or a Hillary Clinton birthday cake, and he'd be right to do so. But as long as he is not bringing up politics, neither will I.

I'm thinking of having an addition put on my garage to build a workshop. Someone down the road is having the exact same thing done right now. I don't know them, but was going to stop and say "hey, who are you using, what restrictions are there, etc." Driving by one day I saw a Trump 2020 sign in their yard and thought "nah, I'll just call around to contractors". I hate that I made that decision based on that. But this is so far beyond just "party politics" at this point. If it was ONLY "politics", it'd be fine. We can disagree all day. But the conspiracies and threats and lies and stoking the flames of fear... it's all just too much. I don't want anything to do with someone who supports that. Which, now that I think about it, will make it hard to find a contractor.


Don't sweat it. They probably hired their current contractor because of a Jesus fish in the Yellow Pages ad.

I lost friends 2016 when I made clear that I have zero respect for anyone who plans to vote for Trump, do not and will not respect their choice, and will think less of anyone who does it.

At that time, it was their choice to sever connections. Several did. I was and remain okay with that.

This time around, it's been my choice..

While I think you'd had to have been blind and stupid to vote for him in 2016, I know some people don't pay attention to politics at all and go for surface only. They knew his name, almost nothing else, and voted blind. I don't respect that and think people like that farked the country, but fine. People I knew who weren't politically engaged in 2016, I just waited to see if they'd learn.

Now, after four years and it now being clearer than ever what he is?

Nope, will not be friends with an open Trump supporter. Won't do it.

From the article, the letter-writer is Asian and the "friend" has repeatedly said racist things about Asian people.

So from my perspective the question of whether she should dump a friend due to politics is a moot issue - the woman is not her friend.

Before the GOP really started to go off the rails blatantly crazy during the Obama years I would say you are being a dick for dumping your friends due to political beliefs.

Now, after everything we have seen if there is anyone who is  a devout supporter of what Trump is trying to do then you can by all means delete them from your life.

Life is already difficult enough without having to placate members of a death cult.

I don't think in this case that it is simply a concern of having your own ideology questioned. We are beyond that. I don't lump all conservatives to be as bad as true Trumpers, but I'm more than content to disown people of the letter who water the seeds of an ideology that would be happy to imprison its political opponents if they could.

Basically, I have a conscience and as such cannot in any way be associated with hardcore Trumpers.

I want to. But l like I said, if he isn't bringing up politics, then there is no reason for me to.

Oh, and he also got his boys Rush Limbaugh coloring books and her forbids them to watch Nova because they cover non-Republican approved science, such as global warming. However, when our sister and her husband raised their kids to support Obama, he referred to that without any sense of irony as "indoctrination".

dickfreckle: Not all conservatives are jerks. My ex GF (more like a common law wife) is a Republican and she DESPISES Trump. And not in the Susan Collins way. Despite me being a political junkie we didn't argue about politics much. It was understood that I was a raging liberal and that she voted for George W Bush.

We are very close friends to this day. She even flies up here at least once a year and we have a blast. But here's the thing: she isn't racist, a corona hoaxer, a maskless "mah rights!" or any of that trash that seems amplified these days. She's a wonderful girl, is all. Just happens to be a Republican. I think she's deluding herself but it's really none of my business unless she brings it up.

BUT: If your so-called friends are talking Trump-style crap, then yes, ditch them. It's a poison I'll have no part of. I can't be around it even online, much less in person.

It's got nothing to do with ideology. Donald Trump doesn't have an ideology. He has no guiding politics or principles. If in 2020 someone still stands with him, they are doing so solely because he sticks his thumb in the eye of decency. They're doing so because he pisses people off and they delight in that. They're doing so knowing he's inept, self-interested, corrupt, and unfit leader, but they don't care because he makes the right people mad. They're doing so because he hates the right people.

There are no causes they can rally around other than "he sticks it to the immigrants" (aka screw brown people) and "he lowered my taxes" (aka I got mine, so fark you). That's it. He doesn't stand for anything but Donald Trump.

There is no more pretending otherwise. While this was all predictable, he's made this unquestionable. The only way to not see it is to make a CHOICE not to see it.

It's not about ideology.

It's about not supporting a malignant, sociopathic narcissist who destroys everything he touches and seeks to dismantle the very institutions that hold the country together. He's not merely some politician people disagree with. It's far worse than that.

I have no qualms about being close to those I disagree with. It's good and healthy. This isn't that.

Suggesting it's about ideology makes it seem like you're utterly blind to all of this.

Last time my brother and I discussed politics was before Trump. He took issue with my Facebook page (which I have since quit, for good) and called me up to tell me that I was letting the liberal media tell me what to think. I gave it back to him with both barrels saying that I found that insulting that the implication was that I was too stupid to form my own thoughts or ideas. Also adding, "and by the way, what are your farking unimpeachable sources of information". Since the answer to that question would have been Fox News and Rush Limbaugh, he changed the subject and we've never discussed politics since.

However, I do know from my brother-in-law, whose mother is Facebook friends with my brother's wife, that my brother got a Donald Trump birthday cake for his 50th.

He would have given me no end of shiat if I were ever to have gotten a Obama or a Hillary Clinton birthday cake, and he'd be right to do so. But as long as he is not bringing up politics, neither will I.


I haven't talked to those two in 2 years now.  They were going full Guilfoyle rant route.  At that point, I realized that they would see me suffer for their beliefs, and decided that staying in contact wasn't worth it.  Rather live and be happy than stay attached to hate.

dickfreckle: Not all conservatives are jerks. My ex GF (more like a common law wife) is a Republican and she DESPISES Trump. And not in the Susan Collins way. Despite me being a political junkie we didn't argue about politics much. It was understood that I was a raging liberal and that she voted for George W Bush.

We are very close friends to this day. She even flies up here at least once a year and we have a blast. But here's the thing: she isn't racist, a corona hoaxer, a maskless "mah rights!" or any of that trash that seems amplified these days. She's a wonderful girl, is all. Just happens to be a Republican. I think she's deluding herself but it's really none of my business unless she brings it up.

BUT: If your so-called friends are talking Trump-style crap, then yes, ditch them. It's a poison I'll have no part of. I can't be around it even online, much less in person.


Trump is a logical culmination of the Republican Party. If she's a small government low taxes type, she's more likely a libertarian.
