Trump doesn't use it as a tactic.  It's a manifestation of his psychology.

* If it's good to/for him, it's correct/right/spectacular/true.

* If it's bad for/to him, it's wrong/rigged/hoax/witch hunt/fake news.

He admitted this during the debates with Hillary.

It's the way he reinforces the artificial reality in which he is God.  It's not a tactic he consciously employs.

It's far easier the call charges of misconduct a hoax than to actually refute them.

2020-08-24 11:58:39 AM
That is EXACTLY what Putin does in Russia to his own people.

Yes, this is how you destroy trust in a system and its institutions. He really is trying to overthrow the system. Voting won't be enough. He wants blood.

I've been saying this for 4 years.  Trump's a bullshiat artist.  He's not trying to convince anyone of any particular lie.  He just really wants objective reality to be unknowable.

On that, I cannot argue.

Just substitute "fact based truth that I don't like" for "hoax."

objective reality is unknowable for him. what he says is just a reflection of that.
everything he likes, even if its false, becomes true (and 10x better GREATEST!) just b/c he likes it.
everything he doesn't like becomes fake just b/c he dislikes it.

hes farking delusional.

My frequent use of the word "c*nt" is a tactic used for "undermining people's faith in Trump" .

Also, the Scroll of C*nts would lack gravitas if it were the Scroll of Ninnies or the Scroll of Doody-heads.

"Article" was barely longer than the headline.

That being said, no shiat, but Trump is only seen as a "strong leader" by those who have already drunk the Kool aid.

2020-08-24 3:20:51 PM
STUPID people. It works on STUPID people.

It doesn't work on reasonably smart people, because you don't have to be a genius to see what an incompetent piece of shiat he is.

Just functional sight, hearing and brain.

I'm tired of people making excuses for these assholes. They're stupid and/or mentally ill. They're not "naive" or "unfamiliar" with politics (many of them are in their 60s and 70s for fark's sake, you don't get to be naive or unfamiliar with politics in your 60s or 70s, you're just stupid by that age).

They're just stupid. It's not any more complicated than that.

Conspiracy theorists like using "hoax".

2020-08-24 3:21:20 PM
This is SOP for any Authoritarian regime: Control what the people read and hear, and you control what they say and think.

Seize communications, control all avenues of information and education, paralyze their ability to respond by muddying the truth. Sow fear, uncertainty and doubt. If they do not have access to accurate knowledge, then they cannot rely on it, and they are unable to act or rebel.

Keep the people ignorant, distant, and separated, and you never have to fear counter-revolution.

2020-08-24 3:22:34 PM
His frequent use of it is also because his vocabulary consists of 113 words.

Stop calling them theorists.

Conspiracy believers.

He doesn't control any media. There is shiatloads of "media" that people can read or listen to. And these morons choose the most obviously stupid ones.

They are "controlled" because they have handed that control over to the Republican party and Facebook. They are adults, not children (despite their childish behavior and thought).

THEY VOLUNTEERED FOR THIS. It was not imposed on them.

2020-08-24 3:24:18 PM
Yeah but at this point nobody is going to start believing his bullshiat that hasn't drank the Kool-Aid already. This just creates more incoherence and chaos within his base. It's not sustainable, and it's going to become obvious soon.

And in a remarkable coincidence, this is exactly how fascist regimes work. They want to destroy your ability to know objective reality because then they can feed you whatever lie they want in order to make you commit whatever monstrous crime they want.

A democratic hoax like the virus that killed hundreds of thousands of Americans so far. That they downplayed as a hoax until they could sell off all their stocks? Or the Russian collusion democratic hoax that the Senate intelligence committee has addressed as very real?

2020-08-24 3:27:48 PM
How he uses these words and the difference in them:

Fake: As in "fake news/fake polls" - Means he doesn't like the news or polls. He can call them "fake" and blame "the enemy of the people" mainstream news media that put them out (ABC, CNN, etc.) His cult members believe him.

Hoax: As in "the Russian hoax/Coronavirus hoax" - There is overwhelming evidence these things are true (from his own government even) so he can't call it "fake" so he calls it a hoax. His cult members believe him over their own 19 intelligence agencies in the government or the CDC. Only Trump's word is to be believed!

Scam: As in "this election is a scam/rigged" - he has no evidence at all, but if he says it, his cult members believe him, as cult members tend to do.

2020-08-24 3:28:23 PM
When your base lacks the ability to critically think, you can tell them anything and they'll accept it as gospel.

Shouting hoax at verifiable facts and reality has been a conservative tactic long before Bonespurs came along. Top Republicans have known for years that average conservatives value heart felt feelings over reality. That's why they are so easily conned.

No, there is a difference. I get exposed to the same stupid shiat they do, but I'm not a goddam idiot, so I see it for the stupid shiat it is. He can't keep CNN or NBC or Vice or Vox or the Lincoln Project from saying things he disagrees with. He hasn't (though I'm sure he'd love to) imprisoned journalists who question him.

Many North Koreans surely know that Kimwhatshisface is an asshole, but they're not allowed to say it publicly, for fear of what happens to their family. North Koreans have an excuse for being ignorant of some reality, though the actual reality of not having enough to eat, for example, is hard to gloss over. That's where the punishment of dissent comes in.

Nobody in America over the age of, say, 16 who has access to the internet has that excuse. The media here is free (if not particularly competent), and there are numerous sources of actual useful information. People can read it anytime they want and there's a huge archive of non-bullshiat to choose from.

Once he has total power, people like you are shot.

How he obtains that power is irrelevant. But autocracies don't happen overnight.

2020-08-24 3:47:10 PM
This is a distinctly Russian form of gaslighting.

It is actually more sustainable to be thought of as corrupt. Consider that if Trump was believed to be decent, any of a hundred different scandals over the last few years would have been sufficient to end his political life.

Much like Putin, at least some of his corruption must occur out in the open - enough that he can credibly claim, look, you knew who I was when you voted for me, and anyway, my existence proves that politicians are corrupt - so how bad is it, really, if I am corrupt also?

Cynicism is the goal. There are no decent people. Vote Trump.

And they don't happen without help. Thus his willing coconspirators. And I'm not talking about Kushner and his ilk. I'm talking about his worshipers, the stupid voters. The scumbags screaming at people and attacking them for asking them to put on a farking mask.

I've had to reevaluate how smart I think some people I know are lately.

The highest intelligence level I've been able to identify says "I really didn't like Hillary, but this is insane. I'm not voting for that idiot again." There is still some hope, however small that these people can learn.

The lowest will say, "I just love all the great things he's done for America." These are a lost cause and can be unfriended in all aspects of life. They should also be shunned.

No. It's not at all like that, and nobody campaigned on "hope and change" for decades, much less wielded total power which he decided to do nothing with.

Literally everything you said is wrong.
