Rich douche paid a car company a lot of money so his car can be the only car painted with that color-change paint that was trendy for five minutes, ten years ago.

And good god is the guy in this video annoying.

I thought they used that kind of paint in cheap-ass Dodge and Plymouth pieces of shiat in the 90s. I know I've seen it before. And purple turning to brown is just shiatty-looking. Literally.

They sell it in rattle-cans at Pep Boys. Real exclusive. Very worth the $100,000 this doof paid for his.

Not really a law. They just made an exclusivity deal.

Now they don't have to bother making any more of them AND they got more money than they probably would've from people requesting it at a normal rate. And this guy gets to think he's cool. Win-win.

I was thinking the same thingexept it was about 20 or so years ago. I knew a guy with a Mustang that had that "paint shifting" color. It was cool but not THAT cool...and certainly not worth $100K of coolness.

IIRC, on a 96 Cobra it was about a $5000 option.  I saw one in the showroom when I bought my TBird.  It was cool but not $5000 cool, and I figured if it ever needed to visit the body shop, you'd be kinda screwed as they'd never get it to match/look right.

The TBird looked green at night under lights and blue in the daytime.  I liked the car other than the garbage transmission.

Not going to lie, it is a pretty slick paint job.  But charging $100,000 for the right to have the only car with it is just a case of parting fools from their money.

2020-08-22 11:08:32 AM
I've never liked that color paint and I liked the Mustang Cobra of that year. Of course, I changed the cams, intake, computer, exhaust, wheels, tires, suspension, brakes, added a supercharger, beefed up the transmission, changed the rear gears and radiator.

Come to think of it, I only left the interior and most of the bodywork alone.

Never mind.

I also had a 96 TBird.  Didn't have transmission problems but it was crap in the snow and hilariously underpowered for a V8 engine.

It was my first car though and I will always remember it fondly.

By 30,000 miles, the transmission was starting to go.  Everyone I talked to who had older ones with the v8 needed 4 of them to get to 100,000 miles.   My parents had a 92 Continental that needed 4 transmissions to get to 70,000 miles.  One of them lasted under 1,000 miles.  That was my last purchase from Ford.  I've had 3 of them and they were all hot garbage.  Besides, 205 HP from a 4.6L V8 on a super heavy car didn't amaze you?

That said, I was rear ended on an interstate by a full sized truck, and it was an excellent choice of car to be in an accident.   It was also a great highway car.  It had super comfy seats.  Tight parking spots were tough.  I do miss two door land yachts.  The Riviera, Mark 8, and Monte Carlos were all nice cars other than stupid things like the air suspension on Mark 8s.

Ford GT deserves better than a paint job that makes it look like a 1996 Mustang, no matter how much they rip you off on cost.

Really?  Most people never figure it out.   They become financial services people and business management types.   They're stupid and boring and think owning an expensive car or a vacation home is a replacement for a personality.    So ... you're ahead of the curve. A congratulatory cookie will be mailed to you at a future date.

I was always kinda "meh" about the first generation. Sure, V-8 engine, but I just like the EcoBoost V-4 of the Gen2 cars better.

Rock Krenn: I may lose my Man Card for saying this, but who could possibly give this much of a flying shiat about the color of a car?

Rich people problems.

CSB: Two weeks ago, one of my business partners had drinks with the owner of a local Cadillac dealership. The next morning he bought a fully loaded Escalade from him on a whim. His big dilemma was whether the custom wheels should be polished black or matte black. (He's a multi millionaire from selling off another of his companies, we are not even close to being in the same tax bracket). That same day, I picked up some new brake pads for my 30-year old 10 speed bicycle. I suspect our lives have different priorities at the moment. I'm still extremely grateful for what I have, even if it'll never be a custom GT.

/I saw a giraffe riding a bicycle yesterday, and it made me want to learn how to knit.
