(Fark)   Can any of you very talented Farkers make thread badges like we used to have years ago? The youngins in the DNC thread in the Poltab liked my old ones, but I don't have the ability to make new ones. Please help revive a Fark tradition   (fark.com) divider line

Z-clipped: thatguyoverthere70: WTF is this thread now?

This is where the shrinking population of an aging, irrelevant news aggregator that is now about 50% sockpuppet troll accounts tries to recapture the nostalgia of days when interesting things occasionally happened and people would make funny, original comments about them, by displaying meaningless in-group status symbols.

SO EPIC

Don't live for the past, bro, it wasn't how you remember it.

Ruthven13: Excuse my ignorance but what exactly are these badges for and how does one acquire one? I have been here for over a decade and was always puzzled by them...

Somebody makes a badge and posts it.  Sometimes they use "badge generator" web sites; sometimes they do the image mangling more directly with paint/shop/ink type programs.  Sometimes they "give" badges to people... I guess by posting the image of a badge and saying something like "you win this!"

In the end it's just a graphical image... colored and/or shade dots on a screen.

Wait so their participation trophies

*they're*
For those of you whom did not participate in English class.

Nah, it works.  For those who received badges, they're their participation trophies.  Actually it's a sentence fragment that the *real* waxbeans would have finished with some emoticons to say "Wait so their participation trophies [explode] [with teary face] [poop]."
