I tried to watch the first one of the prequels and was bored to tears.

FB was ok. CoG was a massive mis-step with huge leaps of faith needed in terms of both story & character actions. As an ardent HP fan it was a colossal disappointment.

After JK's reveal as a Slytherin?

Good luck with that. I'll make it a point to NOT pay to watch it, and help others do the same.

Prequel?  Harry Potter starts out living in a closet knowing absolutely nothing about magic.

G. Tarrant: I tried to watch the first one of the prequels and was bored to tears.

I gave it the five minute test on On Demand and turned it off in the middle of some boring wanker talking about doughnuts or somesuch.

With the exception of the ending, which really pissed me off, I liked the first one.

The second was an incoherent mess.

He may have an Oscar, but making Eddie Redmayne quietly mumble all of his lines was a bit of a misstep.

And they're doing what with three of the cast being involved in investigations into behavior?

I dunno, I have enjoyed the new series quite a lot. It's not often that you have a male protagonist who is a nurturer, and as a potential role model, that's good to see in a major franchise.

It's certainly a mistake to call the series a HP prequel just because it takes place in the same universe and has some of the same characters.  I enjoyed the first two and will probably see the rest of them as they come out.

Eddie is terrible lead, he's got a Lt. Barclay take on the character that I found instantly off-putting. Fogler is killing it ( he's really the standout), the, girls are all great as was Colin Farrell WHYYYYYY DEAR LORD TRADE DOWN TO BLOATED DEPP?

Hard to believe someone making those films didn't realize just how awful the character and plots are. What a mess.

I won't give Rowlings a dime anymore.

Shame on her.

I watched both. The first was ok. As for the second... I had forgotten the plot, and what happened before the credits ended.

And that's what I liked about the series, and what made the end of the second one so horrifying. "Hey all, we're going to take a beloved character from the first one and she's going to join up with a group that are very clearly meant to represent the magical version of the Nazis."

There's no going back, although you know they're certainly going to try. She'll get some ham-handed form of "redemption" by the end, but that's the thing - you really can't. It wasn't a slow slide into the dark side of the force as she was manipulated by stronger forces than herself into joining a cause for misguided but innocent reasons. It was her literally jumping ship to clear evil at the very first opportunity. I'm done.

bungle3358: I had forgotten the plot

Not to worry, there wasn't one, at least not a cohesive one that had a satisfactory denouement.

Right, because the ONLY person who will be hurt by this is Rowling. NOBODY else is even remotely involved with the Harry Potter universe. Just one single person. That's it. If you don't like HP fine, but getting on your embarrassing soap box is just stupid.

There were two separate stories in the first one that didn't mesh at all. Super fun time animal hunt adventure and a creepy, sad orphan; it was jarring.

I really wish her handlers/minions/hangers on darted her and got her to go make a measly mouthed nonapology and make sure she just nods her head in interviews and says "that sounds possible" to all fan theories and makes sure all social media posts are run through committee first.
Theres a lot of people who are hurt by her public suicide

I mean, imagine what would happen if this movie failed because it's both terrible *and* the writer/creator has made herself a public pariah. All of the cast and crew that will have already finished working will just... I guess they would have already been paid and moved onto their next jobs... and they might not have worked on the fourth  movie anyway... So I guess, we should feel bad for the studio and JK for not getting to continue to make these awful movies?

Who else would be hurt by it?

The producers?  Fark 'em.

The actors? Nope. They all got paid to play their roles.

The score composer? Nope. Paid for the job.

The crew? Nope. All paid.

Scholastic executives banking on their percentage? Fark 'em.

The Director? Paid paid paid.

The movie theater guild? Fark 'em.

Sorry, but I'm not paying to see a movie that will further enrich the royalties and residuals a TERF will rake in. J.K. Rowling outed herself as a vile person. That doesn't mean I won't watch it; Just that I won't pay to see it in theaters. If it ends up on streaming or somehow gets on a disc in my possession, I'll probably watch it just to finish out the story, but Rowling tarnished her creation and I'll be looking at this as the LAST thing from the Wizarding World that should exist (and only because I hate the idea of leaving a trilogy unfinished).

TERFs are bigots. I don't patronize them if I can help it.

She actually "planned" for this to be a 5-part series. I use that term loosely since she's clearly just making everything up as she goes.

The villain was A DIFFERENT VILLAIN ALL ALONG

Which is why if you're making things up as you go, you make sequels, or you set them so far in the past it has little bearing on characters who's stories in that world have been told.

Oh, she's definitely been pulling a Lucas. The thing with amassing goodwill of your audience is that things like being full of shiat about your story structure are often overlooked. That's over.

She didn't even have to set it far in the past. She just had to resist the urge to add connections to her previous series. Fantastic Beasts was set in America. They could have told any story in the world, but for some reason they decided to tie back into HP with Grindlewald nonsense that has nothing to do with magical animals.

All we wanted was something involving the Marauders. Until that happens, meh.

And to whomever called JKR a Slytherin... excuse me? She's a squib.
