Found a kitty in the middle of the on ramp of 275 on the way home from work this morning. Blood on his tail and he's very hot. Currently at Boyette Animal Hospital waiting...

/people were flipping me off and yelling at me for stopping and blocking the on ramp
//they're lucky I had a kitty in my hands

We would have put up your bail money.

I'm a real Florida Man! They'll never take me alive!

So glad you went that way today. And sweet Mary, 14 kittens??

Yeah, it's been a crazy year. A lot of people can't take in kitties this year because of cut work hours, unemployment and possible evictions... So we've been picking up the slack.

/2020 can't be over soon enough

Aww! He's a feisty one! So cute.... Ya gotta cut him some slack, little guy's had a seriously crappy day. Glad to hear he's going to be okay. You're a Caturday Hero!!

But he was so sweet in the car. He even had me wondering if he was a feral or not. Now he's being a big meany.

/been up for 24 hours

Have a good sleep - you've earned it. Dream of good names for a survivor cat :-)

Well, I was gonna go to sleep... Some Farker decided to pick a fight in another thread. Dunno if I'm going to engage or not...

My wife and I were thinking of naming him "Reeves" after the dealership nearby.

good name. And I hope you guys keep him!   He is lucky to have humans who care enough to help on a very busy street.

Otera: =P as long as you pay the cat tax, people don't tend to mind too much

I try to keep my taxes paid, but the camera and cats can make that a challenge.  Two more pics, Lady Sylvie decided a small box I was storing Monarch Keeper night cover tea towels in was a GREAT place for her, knocked it to the side for easier access even.  Still, she looked adorable sleeping inside, I get the camera out, and she's all "NOPE, I'm outta here."

And Mendel, on the radiator in the craft room, looking his usual emo self pretending you're the ghost that shouldn't be there so he averts his gaze.  (Don't let that face fool you--it's just so he gets pity scritches when he'll purr like mad even if so vewy, vewy softwy.)

GOOD on you for saving the baby. Is it ok?

They just called me, good news... Nothing broken, but he's got some road rash. He either jumped or was thrown from a vehicle. At least he wasn't hit or run over. Other than that, just the usual feral kitten stuff.

I hate the way the vet does things now. I had to tell them 3 times "I don't know what's wrong with him. I found him in the middle of an on ramp. He doesn't have a name I just found him."

He's Lucky, I don't normally take that route home. The Catmobile is due for a transmission flush at the dealership. If I go in person I can flirt with the woman in the service department. She usually figures out a way to make GM pay for the flush for me. So he's kinda lucky I'm a flirt. Or I would've just called the dealership...

Mudd's woman: Does anyone have any experience with Yahoo Mobile?
It's relatively new, owned by Verizon, but claims to offer a plan for 39.99 a month per line that has most of the bells and whistles of more expensive plans?

I'm looking at reviews and I am just uncertain whether to make that switch. BF and I are already on a Verizon plan that costs quite a bit more than $80 a month...

Do they often a month to month, no contract plan?  If so, seems worth a try if the reviews are positive.  Have you guys checked out Consumer Cellular?  If they're an option in your area definitely check them out!  Excellent customer satisfaction ratings.  Woman I spoke with was so nice & very apologetic when she checked my address & found that I was on the fringe of their coverage area so she didn't think they'd work for me but suggested I check back periodically.

One of our two spirit cats hissed at us for over a year no matter why we happened to be approaching his current radius.  He was a found feral kitten with bite marks--the shelter didn't know much beyond that.  Now, his hissing is really rare unless I startle him.  (Or some idiots in the neighborhood have set off another fireworks spree that night.)  The is the same kitty I posted pics of this weekend on both the towel and the window next to my office chair--inches either way.  The other was finally coming out of wallflower mode until the fireworks insanity we've never had before this year here started way back around Memorial Day, but he doesn't hiss--he hides.

Your new found friend will come around.

I have deep respect for all folks that do foster.  I don't know how folks manage fostering.  I'd be a failed foster every time--I'd never want to let them go.  The butterflies are different somehow, because the whole point is to help them recover by short term protecting them then releasing them back into the wild.  I know that's splitting the finest of hairs, but...there it is.

Except Frankie, who is typically more active during the day anyway and realized since the boys were catatonic she could have me all to herself.

Spencer came home a little after dawn, snuggled right into my arm for a bit but then found a cat tree and has been recharging for another all nighter.  I didnt outfit him with the harness and GPS since it was so hot again just his usual Tile fob According to that he snuck back home twice during the night presumably for snacks but without pestering me for treats. We'll see if the potential thunderstorms keep him home but I doubt it.

I wish - now the hubby has to go in to work twice today. With, like, other people. Some of whom have...children.
And he's decided that, since he has to show up at work for an hour this afternoon he'll just swing by the grocery store on his way home - then it's back to work around 7pm.

So: I've got 91% rubbing alcohol and I've got Clorox bleach. Which do I hose him down with first?

have him take off his shoes outside. then his clothes when he gets inside. clothes go straight to washing machine and he takes a shower. then clean clothes.
wash, rinse, repeat.
save the wipes and alcohol for surfaces.

That's the usual procedure, but today he doesn't want to shower and change twice. Ugh.

Too bad!  He want's to protect you, right?

I've taken in 14 kitties this year. I already had 14 adult cats. So I now have 28. As crazy as that sounds... I live on 10 acres in a ruralish area. I have a 100' x 100' cat proof fence* around the back of my house. Normally there's 4 cats in the house, and the rest stay in the fenced in area. But this isn't a normal year. I'm slowly introducing the new kitties to the back yard, to get them out of the house. We are very lucky that almost all of the cats get along. There's 2 sisters that despise one another. But their skirmishes only last about 5 seconds.

Glad you found a local place that will likely have the best advice for your area.

As to transplanting, yes it can be done, but with caveats.

This article covers a whole host of inner/cross Monarch community issues with captive breeding and transportation by amateurs (note that some of the "amateurs" being called out are businesses raising them for Wedding releases and such that are essentially the financials over morals equivalent of overcrowded BigAg farms.)  This is still a dividing "greater good" sort of issue--particularly about euthanizing heavily infested adults--because of how low the Monarch numbers are overall.  Some have even started figuring out ways to test for OE without the need of lab equipment because the science seems to say it is better to euthanize than allow further spread.  (This will make more sense when you read the OE portion of the article.)  I think if memory serves the article also touches on taking milkweed from what turned out to be pesticide treated areas, which then poisons captive cats eating them.  (Though Guardians are working on ways around that too.)

Being a Guardian can be very complex (as one once put it "as complex as you allow it to be"), which is why the easiest first step is to get milkweed planted, not use pesticide on it, and hope whatever female Monarchs find it lay eggs, and those eggs grow up on their own or not without further intervention.  Many do this as what I think of "Guardianship-Lite" sort of thing.  Some simply net their milkweed outdoors too once eggs have been laid.  The more you read, you find there's all sorts of in-betweens from leaving them be in the milkweed patch you planted to super attention and care per egg captive rearing.

When you're trying to beat the 1-2% survival rate of the wild, anything above that still should get a pat on the back, and you vow to learn from that season for next when needed.  As James Price of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin is quoted in the first link, "'Nobody has hijacked this forum - except, perhaps, people who think they love monarchs more than anybody else but don't have the gumption to learn and understand the science, or to do the real work it takes to make monarch recovery happen.'  Price encouraged those who choose to raise monarchs at home to 'swallow hard, grit your teeth, and do the work.'"

I know when I had to first euthanize a desperately ill adult, it broke my heart.  When I had to do the same this year, it wasn't any easier for me.  So I totally get why he said that, and why some opt for Guardian Lite.  GL's are still helping as far as I'm concerned.

And now I've digressed way beyond what you were probably considering in the first place with transplants.  ~eep~

Then there's tagging adults...another controversial subject...for another time.

Hey, look! Old scan of a physical photo!

So, Mr. Bobug was pushed until tomorrow for a virtual appointment. All Covid testing sites were full. They want to screen him again, before sending him for a test. His fever's up to 102, now. He's coughing more. The man who freezes ME out has turned the upstairs up to 74, because he keeps getting chills. I called the physician answering service, and no call back, 2 hours later. So, this is something. My head's pounding and I'm exhausted from running around last night, trying to find thermometers. GAH.

bobug: So, Mr. GAH.

Damn some doctors offices are assholes

Hang in there.  I hope you find out either way soon.  I'm sure you feel this way in your home right now...

I'm so sorry you both are dealing with this! I can imagine the stress you are under, and I hope it all works out fine. Will be keeping you both in my thoughts. ♥

Honestly, I think you need to call the squad, and tell them you have a suspected covid case. His temp is going up, He is coughing more..no idea what is O2 saturation is..It sounds like he is escalating..no sense in waiting.

The little girl with red collar. Her name is Shanti. She hadn't been nursing well, so Shelly started tube feeding her today.

Mudd's woman: The Ice Queen:

To get the Gold Star version, you have to provide a lot more paperwork, especially if you're a woman (I know a lady who had to provide both her marriage certificate AND divorce decree due to name changes, in addition to everything else). We get the option here in OH, I'm guess you do too, as to whether you want the fancy schmancy license or a regular old license. Since I already have federal clearance and I don't fly, it wasn't worth the additional hassle for me. There is no difference in cost though, just generally pain in the assness.

So I have a gold star on my license already.
I guess don't need to do anything else.

Might want to check with your BMV. I know ours have an extra special seal on them if someone has the enhanced version here in Ohio

Spaceballer: almostsane: Spaceballer: bobug: Spaceballer: Ugggggh!

Found a kitty in the middle of the on ramp of 275 on the way home from work this morning. Blood on his tail and he's very hot. Currently at Boyette Animal Hospital waiting...
[Fark user image 425x318]

/people were flipping me off and yelling at me for stopping and blocking the on ramp
//they're lucky I had a kitty in my hands
///was about to go all florida man on them

/14th kitty I've taken in this year

14?  You're catching up to me (17, not counting new kitty that may be coming).  I wonder if we're soul mates?

I've taken in 14 kitties this year. I already had 14 adult cats. So I now have 28. As crazy as that sounds... I live on 10 acres in a ruralish area. I have a 100' x 100' cat proof fence* around the back of my house. Normally there's 4 cats in the house, and the rest stay in the fenced in area. But this isn't a normal year. I'm slowly introducing the new kitties to the back yard, to get them out of the house. We are very lucky that almost all of the cats get along. There's 2 sisters that despise one another. But their skirmishes only last about 5 seconds.

*nothing is really cat proof

/probably gonna to extend the cat fence this year
//and build another cat house

28!  You win!!  I have just over 13 acres in a rural area.  I would love to to be able to build a fenced-in catio area, maybe incorporated partially with my pole barn.

Darn, just watched the video of her sleeping after her feeding. She looked so happy and content. I haz a sad, and a glad. Sad her life ended so soon, but glad that she knew love and comfort and a full belly.

Will your local hospital do Covid-19 testing in the parking lot? If you just drive up? Otherwise I think I would call the paramedics and force the issue.

The silly wanderer is off doing whatever it is he does. Hoping the weather turns cooler soon so I'll outfit him with his GPS at night.
Also yes the patio is a disaster. The plan was going to be to rip everything up and relevel it with nice stones and sod but then covid hit and the stores were shut down for a while etc etc.
Waiting for new umbrella cover to arrive before I put out the new umbrella.

Was just about to start nodding off when a furry serpent popped in for treats.
He has the most sibilant purring ever it's like a den of cobras everytime he gets going. Other than a high pitched whine it's the only noise he makes. I don't know if he knows how to meow.

Mudd's woman: lemurtx: Here's The Night Cat book app. I think I mentioned it last weekend or maybe Saturday- my days are one big blur. It's free and there are ads, or you can pay $1.99 for no ads.
[Fark user image 425x338]

Is that for Apple only?

Crap, it might be. He says it's his first children's iOS app. I haven't found anything that mentions Android yet. 😞

Here's the description

The Night Cat is an adorable story about a mischievous cat who finds adventure in the span of a single night.  Peer directly into the life of a cat, on her own, as she explores the house in the darkness.
The app contains soft music and muted colors to engage and relax children during story time.  This app was developed to be read in the dark, but can be read in a variety of light conditions. For best viewing results, please turn up the device brightness.

He heard something outside...

I love the joke by Paula Poundstone, her cat is suddenly staring intensely out at the hallway-is it a moth or a serial killer?

Um, I hope it's just a moth😬

Djelibeybi: Never visited the Cat House place, myself. Sounds like what I wanted to build when I was a little kid, though. Now if they were big cats...

Great, next on Netflix... Djelibeybi Exotic! ;-)
