Its looking more and more like the 9900K I bought last year is going to be the last Intel chip I buy for myself in some time.  When it comes to desktop CPUs all I care about is pure performance/core and AMD's catch-up game is getting pretty close to eclipsing Intel on this front already.  AMD's prices are also much more attractive, which is a nice secondary benefit.

Tone-deaf moves like trying to do weak ass-promotional tie-ins like this aren't helping either.  Its just the box art?  Really?  Who's their core audience they're trying to target here?  Did they accidentally hire Bethesda's director of merchandising or something?

What do you want? Some cool Avenger's decal on the CPU that you're not going to see because it's inside your case, and will melt and destroy your CPU at high loads?

They aren't even including codes for free game downloads or a few months of whatever streaming service currently controls the latest Marvel movies? Some might call this sauce weak, I call it Modesto tap water.

They're not trying to resell you your own processor seven times over, are they?

If Intel was actually trying.... they could have released Avengers styled NUCs. That would be kind of neat. Maybe even have the BIOS screen changed to some Avenger's thing.

Lame. The old (dodecahedron?) i9 packaging was actually awesome. The i9 decal badge even came with a EUlA staring it can only be put on PCs with that processor.

This is just so sad.

Even if it was etched on the CPU, no one's going to see it.

That's a Ryzen 9 3900X under there.

That packaging needs to be foil-embossed, die-cut and polybagged to fully represent the world of comics.

I mean, at least the Nvidia Cyberpunk 2077 graphics card looks different...

And my rig has a glass side, so yes, I can see the interior of my system. Plus interior lights.

No, I didn't build it that way; it came standard like that.

You couldn't take a picture of its sexy, sexy side?

I would expect that Ryzen to have go faster racing stripes.

All I know about the Avengers game is that it's already a cynical cash-grab disaster.

I would pay extra for a CPU that had thinner metal on the top which had been professionally lapped. In combination with a lapped heatsink you would not even need any heatsink goo.

I've thought for some time that movie companies should buy a video game studio and get good spin-off games made. I remember renting a few spin-off games from Pixar movies for the kids, and they're made by shovelware companies who just don't care.

Pixar should be printing money with Cars universe games. You've got the property that kids love. Put some love into making great games and every kid will want it. Same with The Incredibles. I'm not talking about making games based on the film, but fresh stuff in the universe.

I'm waiting for the Thanos edition. Whenever you get low on RAM, it randomly terminates half of your currently running processes.

That I can understand.  Even something like this with Iron Man's helmet or Captain America's shield instead of the alien thing.

They get the tie in, you still have the kids running to it, and it actually makes sense.

The Linux Out Of Memory handler has had that feature forever.  And its still as ignorant as ever about slaying the last thing to ask for more rather then the most piggish user-level process, which means it'll often smoke your kernel and reboot everything.

Not a decal, physically etched into the chip

I built it to look rather boring. The only RGB is the logo on the graphics card.
When doing video or photo editing, the lights can be distracting. The same when gaming.
I know that you can switch RGB off, but when I'm not using the computer, it gets put to sleep, and not just sit there looking pretty and using energy.

I'll take the hit on the geek points for no RGB.

What we want is something that gives a freaking reason to purchase a more expensive "collector's edition" chip beyond special packaging.

You want them to slap a corporate logo on something that you don't need and then sell it to you at a premium price. Why be mad that it's just a box?
