So, the solution was to simply cover the trash with plastic and put soil over it, thus solving the problem once and for all?

It's a partial solution.  The full solution is to put the planet in a plastic bag to preserve freshness.

Ecliptic: PainInTheASP: Now THAT is an aptly-named landfill.

Kill is Dutch for creek. But, knowing that, your statement still works on the irony side as well.

NYC is up shiat kill.

Just today some lady thought she would come around the the right of all the cars waiting at the light to exit the shopping plaza. I saw what she was doing and inched over because fark you wait in line like all of us.

She kept trying to get ahead of everyone ince the light went green, and attempted to make a left from the little area on the right she squeezed into...still behind me I decided to say nah, I'm going to turn right instead and she honked at me with a fury.

I flipped her off, and went on my way  farking Staten Island.

Nice ad for James Corner Field Operations.  I wonder if the Times ever considered that what they did was throw plastic over the waste and hire in scientists to do pollution mitigation, not make any sort of design.

They came to my little town a while back, hired with an arts grant to help design a trail in a place where the natural trails are considered some of the best in the world. At the and of their presentation, when they asked for public feedback, I said, "You've shown us some really impressive projects, all of which are reclamations of former industrial waste sites or other industrial sites that you turned into beautiful parks. But what I see in every one of these examples is some version of a strip of concrete to walk on safely and grass around it.  We live in one of the most naturally beautiful places on earth. [They nodded in agreement] "I'm really concerned what you are going to design for us is going to replace our natural trail with a strip of concrete and some grass. Can you share your thoughts on what you intend to preserve about the current trail area?"

They smiled that smug arteest "you stupid philistine" smile and said, "That's all in our design process. We take all that into account. We know how to make beautiful spaces, have you seen the Highline?"

Guess what they came back with. Go ahead. Guess.

Congrats to James Corner Field Operations for taking on some really gnarly reclamation projects. They should stick to that - sites where being able to walk on a sidewalk is an accomplishment and the real effort goes into sourcing the experts to mitigate the pollution. They can f*ck off with installing a sidewalk over en existing footpath and calling it an artistic design.
