In response to a follow-up question on the topic, the president concluded, "I don't know about it. I just heard about it. I'll take a look."

Is this the new "I'm just asking questions"?

Anybody can tell lies: there is no merit in a mere lie, it must possess art, it must exhibit a splendid & plausible & convincing probability; that is to say, it must be powerfully calculated to deceive.

Is anyone surprised that racism is in full play?

/Anyone?

It's nothing new. It's the age-old dump bullsh*t: I'll watch faux news and they'll tell me what to think.

The people who are open to the lies weren't going to vote for Biden/Harris anyway. Just ignore the noise.

Truth is female, since truth is beauty rather than handsomeness; this, Ridcully reflected as the council grumbled in, would certainly explain the saying that a lie could run around the world before Truth has got its, correction, her boots on, since she would have to choose which pair - the idea that any woman in a position to choose would have just one pair of boots being beyond rational belief.
Indeed, as a goddess she would have lots of shoes, and thus many choices: comfy shoes for home truths, hobnail boots for unpleasant truths, simple clogs for universal truths and possibly some kind of slipper for self-evident truth.
More important right now was what kind of truth he was going to have to impart to his colleagues, and he decided not on the whole truth, but instead on nothing but the truth, which dispensed with the need for honesty.

As has become evident, Facebook is increasingly populated by and largely caters to old people and racists. The most engaged-with post was Candace farking Owens? Gtfo with that shiat. At this point I do not care what bullshiat situation you have put yourself in by relying on Mark Z; your business that girl from high school your affinity groups your farking band I do not care. Delete your goddamned account already. Or help Trumpy.

Your choice.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the moment Facebook started to go to shiat was when they opened it up to people without active .edu email addresses - i.e. people who weren't currently college students or very recently graduated.  There was a filtering effect - not only did it keep your Racist Uncle Ken and Moron Aunt Karen from shiatposting all over your feed, the fact that you needed to use an e-mail account managed by a university and (generally) conditioned on your affiliation with that institution filtered out a lot of the bots, scammers, catfishers, et al that are so prevalent now.  It wasn't quite Eternal September when they opened it up to the general public, but the deterioration in the level of discourse was immediate and severe.

Granted, the level of discourse was never very high to begin with, but in the early days it was at least primarily anodyne and cheerful.  Nowadays it's an angry, ignorant thoughtsewer, with occasional baby pictures.

You have just described the internet.

I remember Usenet and iirc and generally it was pretty good natured back and forth.  Skip forward a bit and it all became a raging pit of anger.

I blame the fall of geocities.

FTFA: One post with the most engagement on the platform in the day following Harris's announcement, according to data collected by Media Matters, was from right-wing personality Candace Owens who questioned the senator's racial identity.

And so you don't have to give Owens a click, she says Harris called herself an Indian-American, and now she'll be calling herself a Black American, as if a biracial person can't claim either heritage truthfully, or we switch back and forth like evil wizards.

I'm sorry for getting uncivil here but WHY ARE WE STILL HAVING THIS MUCH TROUBLE WITH THE VERY IDEA OF MIXED MARRIAGES? People of difference races, ethnicities and cultures can love each other and produce a baby! That baby will experience both worlds and have a sense of belonging in both worlds. We are not pod people, mutants or spies! We grew up multi-cultural! That's a thing! And some of us can pass as either race by our looks, I guess some people are terrified by that. But either way, we are both. All the time!

I mean, okay, I will give you that "whiteness" is special and we still seem to abide by the "one drop" rule, so Barack Obama is perfectly justified in calling himself "black" but if he said "AND I'm white too" we would lose our shiat. But we don't have the capacity to treat someone as black AND Indian either? Do minorities cancel each other out, is that it? Kamala Harris has no racial identity whatsoever, no matter what she experienced growing up?

Our heritage comes from both parents! Biracial people have one foot in one box and one foot in the other box and we get to play with the toys out of both boxes - even the crappy ones like school busing issues. Our experiences will not be identical, but we get stuff from both boxes! Why is this still so hard for people to understand TWO DECADES into the 21st Century?

Everyone is more than one thing - you can be a lawyer and a gamer nerd and a Buddhist and a dominatrix and a cat-owner who sells tea-cozies on Etsy -  why is being more than one race this difficult to parse??
