List contains black-label Evan Williams as "overrated."

It's a f*cking well brand.

How in the blue f*ck is a well brand "overrated" -- especially when the suggested replacement is the next grade up of Evan Williams?

List is stupid and subby should feel stupid and is stupid and I hate this stupid list because it's stupid.

I dunno, I sort of really like Blanton's.  But I usually buy Buffalo Trace anyway since it's half the price.

That reminds me, I need more bourbon

Because people aren't allowed to like what other people like, unless it's just a few others and then you can all hang out and snob it up.  Otherwise you'd just be writing articles like "Standard bourbons not bad, really.  Shrug."

Bullet is not overrated. Bullet is a "imma gonna get drunk and this is here".

I do need to find some Willette though. If that was on the list I would be outraged

Yeah, that is just about what I expected it would be.

Not the actual bottles, but the justification for not liking them.

Lame ass-BS.

Yep... most of the article was the law of diminishing returns; as stuff gets more expensive the benefit drops off.

If you buy a $15 bourbon, you're probably much better off going to $25

If you buy a $500 bourbon, you're probably not much worse off buying a $90 bottle.

Buy Scotch instead.  I'm like Macallan's 12 year.

Guy used to come into a bar I worked at and ordered Buffalo trace and dr pepper, only reason the kept the bottle was for him, dr pepper in the little glass bottles also only for him, he always tipped the bar 100% and always drank 3, never really talked to anyone

Thats my kind of guy. Cheap bourbon and soda is good;  good bourbon and soda is better.

Evan Williams is fine with me though.  i call it "E-Double"

Buffalo Trace is great over ice for me. Ezra and Evan are my go-to mixers. Enjoying an Ezra and Vernor's right now actually.

/ don't make the kind of money, nor have any kind of palette, to justify Blanton's or anything approaching it.

He swore the "natural sugar" in the glass bottles made it taste that much better, always wondered how much experimenting it takes to come to that conclusion

Blanton's is really damn good. But, I'm not going to drop $200, nor go through all of the b.s. necessary to find a bottle in the first place. However my brother in law is that guy, and he's willing to share, so it works out for me. Last Thanksgiving the whole family came to our house. After the kids went to bed, my wife and sister went black Friday shopping. My brother in law and I sat in the kitchen shooting the shiat and drank in entire bottle of Blanton's he brought, and smoked a couple of my Cohiba Maduros. It was a very enjoyable way to spend a holiday, I recommend it.

Evan White is a great bourbon for its price, though.

Anything bottled in bond is single year, aged at least four years, and bottled at 100 proof. That makes really good whiskey, always.

Has Blanton's always been that much?  I remember buying it a handful of years ago and don't think I would have spent that much.

I got a bottle of Pappy 20yr for MSRP about 5 years ago just because I had the option and figured why the hell not. It was good, but not at that price. More so now that the price has only gone higher since.

Woodford Reserve is still my regular go-to.

I find it amusing that rough tough bourbon drinkers are making their choices based on the pretty bottles, and will fight to the death to proclaim, 'I can tell the difference! You have no idea what you're talking about!"

Not a chance they can identify their chosen pretty bottle from the cheap stuff in a blind taste test, with anything more than 50% accuracy.

No. It has not.  I've bought it a few times over the years but it's been a while since my last bottle. Over the holidays I saw a bottle and thought, why not, it's been a while. Then I saw the price thought wtf and moved on.

My cabin is 5 minutes from the distillery!

It was not what I was expecting when they built it.  The bourbon isn't bad. A little overpriced, but I'll pay a little more to support the local guy.

seriously, this.

15-20 years ago, one of our fellow-denizens of Credit Suisse passed. and a wake was held across the river in the Hobokens.

a DRY wake. which we all knew in advance. I brought a 5th of Evan Williams in my satchel.

most people working for CSAG in Madison Sq are... from Ireland? lol. my one buddy said something like, "jayzus and shiate, you people really drink this in your country?" - and then 2 seconds later, "I... I'll need a wee bit more. just to be sure-like, you know."

/literally only one of my friends "the bank" was actually from actual Switzerland.
//he found my pretend-schwiizertüütsch farking thigh-larious.
///neutral-gender every noun as das. put an umlaut on every possible vowel, and double if you possibly can. end every word with -li.

Ya'll are better people than me. I would have kept the bottle, but started filling it with Ancient Age.

eh, my wife and her father are literally the ones who tell a restaurant, "I'm serious. butterfly the steak before you fry it well done over hard. and bring the bottle of ketchup." - I don't judge (Narrator: he totally judges. he used to order steaks bleu or even "black and bloody." and, nota-bene: those Franch-restaurant-levels of steak-doneness? are all minus-1 level below our american limits. mmm.) - but aside from some standart light-mockery, I'm glad when she enjoys a steak the way she likes it. uncomprehending, but still glad.

as always, Onstad shows us the way.

I can get 750ml bottles of Bulleit or Buffalo Trace all day long for $25. I bought a bottle of Woodford Reserve for $45 for the hell of it - I'm fine with Bulleit or Buffalo.

Ok I will.

Woodford is often on sale at $33 here (normally $37). Bulleit is $30 and BT is $27.

I'm fine with an additional few bucks for something I prefer the taste of.

Bulleit, which of course is better in the rye, can't be overrated unless you are poor as dirt. It's a perfectly drinkable whiskey for a pretty reasonable price. This article sucks.

fortunate enough to've been treated multiple times at the very hotel what's the namesake of that one! never had it straight up though, so it's hard to say? only in Manhattans and Sazeracs (man, bars inside The Rittenhouse are so dingdanged fancy they actually stock actual absinthe for mixing drinks.)
